The Gionee Elife S5.5 was unveiled last month as the world’s thinnest smartphone at just 5.5mm in thickness. This handset will officially go on sale next week in China on the 18th of March, with over 40 other countries slated to get it soon as well. The manufacturer has priced the device at CNY 2,299 ($374) which isn’t a lot for a device of its caliber.
On the hardware front, the Elife S5.5 features a 5 inch 1080p display, a MediaTek made octa core chipset, a 13 megapixel camera on the back with a 5 megapixel front facing camera, 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM and a 2,300 mAh battery. The smartphone runs the company’s proprietary Amigo OS based on Android, which comes with several customization options, much like you would find on a competitive smartphone.
At 5.5mm, the Elife S5.5 is certainly an attention grabber at first sight. However, due to its limited availability for the time being, global customers will not be able to get a taste of the smartphone. The manufacturer hasn’t mentioned as to when it plans to bring the device to other countries, so it could take a while. But it’s reassuring to know that more than 40 countries will get the smartphone soon.
