Solution: Hi Sherry. If you were able to open and send MMS on this S5 before, we suggest that you contact your service provider first to know if there are any on-going network problems affecting your area. However, if the problem happens after you installed or downloaded something, the issue may be caused by third party applications. In this case, we recommend that you power up your phone in Safe Mode so you can try to replicate the issue while third party apps are disabled. Alternatively, you can also try to uninstall the recently installed apps you have on your device to see if that will resolve the problem.
If you are using a third party messaging app, make sure that it’s properly configured to send and receive MMS. If you don’t have any idea how to go about doing this, simply reinstall the app or delete it’s data to restore it to its defaults.
Again, we cannot emphasize enough the need to contact your service provider first to check for any network- or account-related problems. This is especially true if you were able to use MMS service before without any problems. There may be a need to reconfigure your phone’s APN settings in order to restore its MMS working order.
Problem #2: Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy S5 cannot send MMS
I purchased my S5 brand new about 3 or 4 months ago. AT&T unlocked & I switched it to Straight Talk. First couple of months everything worked great. The last month or so I have noticed it taking some time for picture messages to go through. Sometimes failing & having to resend. The past week or more they have stopped sending all together. All of the pictures are still saying they are in the sending process with the loading circle at the bottom right hand corner still turning. But absolutely nothing is happening. I’ve restarted my phone. Even tried taking the battery out. Tried calling customer service but don’t have the wait time to actually get to speak to someone. This issue is becoming a real annoyance. Solution: Hi Jacqueline. If you are using the stock Samsung Messages app when sending MMS, your first troubleshooting step should be to delete its data. This forces the phone to restore the app to its default settings. Doing so will erase your message log so if you have important messages to keep, make sure that you have a back up for them. This is an effective solution for this issue so everything should go back to normal afterwards.
If the problem continues though, try to re-visit the APN settings of your phone and see if you can reconfigure it. First you need to go to the right screen. Here’s how:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap More networks.
- Tap Mobile networks.
- Tap Access Point Names.
If you want to create a new data connection, simply tap the “plus” icon.

Problem #3: Unable to receive SMS and MMS on Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5
Hi. I purchased a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 and put it on Straight Talk. Everything works great except I cannot receive text messages. I can send from any of the apps on my phone but no matter the default, I cannot receive text. This not just MMS but all text messages. I have followed several things I was told to do, disable Hangouts, disable Verizon messages+, factory reset, clean the SIM card etc. It is a Verizon SIM from Straight Talk. We performed a root, changed the ROM etc…still not able to receive text messages. The simple fix, I thought, was to create an APN for Straight Talk BUT no matter what I do, it will not allow me to add an APN. It gives me the option to change the name from Verizoninternet to whatever I would like to name it but will not allow me to edit any information. Nor will the + highlight and allow me to create an entirely new APN. How can I fix this? Why will it not let me create another APN? I would greatly appreciated any and all assistance you may be able to give me. I text more than talk and I really need to fix this or trash this phone! Thanks. — Hiedi
Solution: Hi Heidi. Verizon intentionally blocks users from editing APN settings of their mobiles. Obviously, this is a business decision to ensure that their devices stay within their network. Technically, you can bypass this restriction by re-flashing the stock ROM…but at a cost of losing the phone’s warranty and exposing it to possible firmware and security issues. We suggest that you work the issue out with Verizon by using their service (if possible). Otherwise, you either have to live with this limitation or find a suitable ROM to use on your device.
Should you decide to go with rooting the phone, you can try to follow this excellent guide from AndroidCentral.
Remember, rooting the phone may result to hardware or software brick if not done correctly so we suggest that you tread lightly on this one.
Problem #4: Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 unable to connect to mobile data and send MMS when not connected to Wi-Fi
I have called Sprint over 100 times, called Samsung 5 times and had 3 new S5’s sent to me and still the same problem! The Tech store see’s it but everyone else over the phone thinks I am crazy! I have tried everything, please help!
Problem: When I leave my house (and Wi-Fi area) the phone will not post data, will not allow me to post or MMS a picture. When I turn on the Hotspot somewhere so I can connect my laptop the hotspot comes on but will not allow any data to transmit and within about a minute without fail the screen comes up with “turning on Wi-Fi will disable hotspot”. I know that lol, but it does it without prompt.

Solution: Hi Christopher. Have you checked with Sprint if the phone’s APN settings are correct? This is important as APN settings determine whether or not your phone is talking to your service providers network properly to access services like data and sending and receiving of SMS and MMS. The root of the issue should only either be network- or account-related one as you said this has been your third S5 at this time.

Problem #5: Samsung Galaxy S5 takes a long time to send MMS
Hello. I’ve been having my S5 since summer 2014. I never had problems with it except for couple automatic restarts which was fine to me.
At the beginning of this month I had a software update and now there are problems.
the battery is dying faster. What bothers me more is the fact that my MMS won’t send. The SMS works fine. I try five times with MMS and it won’t send. Today I tried to test it by sending to my sister. I send it at 4:45. It kept saying “sending.” Finally at 5:45 she received it. — Mary
Solution: Hi Mary. Sometimes, network congestion can delay messages (SMS and MMS) indefinitely depending on the amount of traffic your network is handling. Such situations are often perceived by users as delays in both sending and receiving of messages. Please talk to your service provider about the issue first to determine if there’s an on-going network maintenance affecting your area. If your sister did receive your MMS after an hour of delay, that means that your device’s settings are all good.
Problem #6: Samsung Galaxy S5 Go SMS Pro issue

If I click on this message it brings up a box stating that it is an SMS error report please send us an email to help us fix the problem.
If I click on send email it won’t send as the file is too big.
I use Go SMS Pro to send messages and this is where the email is trying to be sent to.

Solution: Hi Steven. Since you are using a third party application in sending SMS, the issue might only be coming from Go SMS. We suggest that you delete the cache and data of Go SMS Pro app to see how it goes after that. Remember, deleting the app’s data may also delete your contacts or message log so try to have a back up of those before proceeding.
If that won’t resolve the problem, you want to contact the developer of Go SMS Pro so they can assist you.
Problem #7: Hangout issue on AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5
Hi. Hopefully you can help. This is an ongoing problem since last March and I still haven’t found a resolution. I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy 5 last March. I love the Galaxy but my problem is that I don’t get all my text messages.
I have disabled iMessaging on iTunes and have asked everyone I know to change the setting on their phone to “send as SMS as iMessage not available.”
I do a group text with my 5 siblings and it was constantly splitting the texts….some would get it as a.group message, some were split off into another text group, and all kinds of other craziness.
Finally, I was able to switch to Hangout and have relatively love issues until recently. Now randomly I will text someone new and they will either not get the text or get it, respond and I don’t get the message. I have tried changing settings to no avail.
AT&T is my carrier if that helps.

Solution: Hi Vicki. We do encounter request for assistance regarding Hangouts but they are NOT similar to what you have. That leads us to believe that yours might be an isolated case. What you can do first is to clear the cache Hangouts app, then proceed to deleting its data (this will delete message logs and contacts) if nothing works. Make sure to observe how the app behaves for a few days after deleting its data.
