Samsung Galaxy S5 Pop Up Ads Problem

We have been receiving quite a number of requests from our readers asking for assistance in removing the pop up ads that appear on their #Samsung Galaxy #S5 phones.  The most common cause of this issue is that the phone owner may have installed apps not coming from the official source (Google Play Store). S5 Pop Up Ads Appearing

Problem: This is going to be long and I am sorry…. but it all goes together I promise. Okay, so I have had two samsung phones. My first one I got because it was time for a upgrade. I had NO issues with this phone at all whatsoever. Then it got broken and I was sent a replacement phone. Now this phone has the same apps on it as my last one. However, something happened and my S5 started to open up random website pages and known/unknown apps in my google play app store. I have already done one factory reset on my phone and it got rid of my problem…. Or so I thought…  4 months later I now have the same problem but the pop ups are not as often. Just still annoying. Is there a way to get rid of this virus? I have already done a hard reset on the phone once yet it has come back. Is there a possibility that I have a Trojan on my phone? If so how can I remove it.

Solution: When you previously did a factory reset  it effectively removed any potential malware that could have been in your phone. Since you performed this procedure four months ago this mean that you may have installed some apps during this time period or probably browsed through  a couple of websites.

These pop up ads are usually caused by certain apps ( in most cases free apps). Your phone will get this is you install an app that is injected with an ad malware.

Visiting certain websites also causes this type of problem. If you accidentally click on a link in the website then a pop up ad may appear. For this issue you should try to activate the pop up ad blocker on your browser then check if this helps.

The best way to deal with this is to backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the factory reset has completed you should consider getting a security software app on your phone to prevent any occurrence of this problem in the future. Make sure to only get apps from the Google Play Store since the apps available in the store are constantly scanned for any potential threats.

S5 Virus Alert

Problem: Hey about a week or 2 ago I kept getting a notification about updating my software.  So I did. Now every time I pick up my phone I see a screen that says I have a virus on my phone  28.1%.  And it will mess up my phone pictures, etc. I haven’t downloaded anything else so can u please help.

Solution: Have you installed any apps lately prior to this issue occurring? If you have and this app is not from the Google Play Store then this may be causing the problem. It’s most likely that the virus alert you get is just a false warning and just a way for the app developer to let you download a premium app.

I suggest you start your phone in Safe Mode first then check if you still get the virus alert. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If however the alert still occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Once the factory reset has completed you should immediately install a security software appin your device to prevent issues such as this occurring again.

S5 Constantly Showing Pop Ups

Problem: I’ve been having different things pop up for some time now. It started out as just pop ups stating that I have a virus.  Now also, if I’m using the Internet or sending a text message, something else will pop up in the middle of it. Like play store etc. I’m also having a problem playing videos. They stop after like 5 seconds into the video

Solution: For this particular issue I suggest you wipe the cache partion of your phone first from the recovery mode. Once this is done start your phone in Safe Mode then check if any of the issues you mentioned still occurs. If you don’t get any pop up ads then the problem may be caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

You should also activate the pop up ad blocker on your browser settings. This is to prevent pop up ads from appearing when you browse to certain websites.

If the issue still persists I suggest you backup your phone data then perform a factory reset. Once the factory reset is complete you should immediately get a good security software app on your device.

S5 Battery Virus

Problem: Have picked up a Battery Virus.  My antivirus cannot remove it. I can’t get onto the net with the Phone as the virus is blocking. If I turn off phone and take out battery I can get to the apps store.

Solution: Try starting your phone in Safe Mode then check if your phone works normally. If it does then the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If you still can’t go online or if the virus still exists even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone dat then do a factory reset.

S5 Can’t Open Downloaded File

Problem: I have CM security Antivirus on my phone, and it scans and notifies me of a  file that repeatedly downloads. CM security says that it is a safe file, however when I click on the file to open it, it says “cannot open file.” I am not sure what app causes this. I have tried force stopping all internet browsing and clearing the cache. Obviously neither of these solutions worked. I would rather not have to do factory reset if I don’t have to. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Regards

Solution: What file is being downloaded? Do you know what extension the file has? You will not be able to open this file if you don’t have the necessary app installed in your device that can read the file extension.

You can try to wipe the cache partition of your phone first then check if the issue persists. If it does then start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If you don’t experience any file downloads in this mode then the problem is caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

  4. I recently downloaded the latest update to my Galaxy S6 (7.0 G920AUCU6EQCF) and I haven’t downloaded any apps at all for a while. But since the update last week I am now getting pop up ads when I charge my phone in the morning. They just start playing. I have researched this issue and none of the solutions I found worked. I really don’t want to do a factory reset. Hopefully you can help with this.
