Problem: Huawei P20 Pro heating up when using apps (overheating)

Hello. I own a Huawei p20 pro and I got it 3 days back. However the phone is heating up with even slight usage of WhatsApp instagram…I owned a Samsung c7 before for 2 years and it never heated up the same…but this new phone heats up mostly near the camera and the top part.

Another issue is the battery life .. In most videos they say the battery goes up to 2 days even with intensive use ..but that’s not the case with me. It drains quite fast. To be specific I don’t play any games; I just use social media only. Please help me solve this problem as I am quite worried about my phone Thank you.

Solution: Overheating can be caused by a number of factors. If you have no idea how to begin troubleshooting your device, follow our suggestions below.

Forced reboot. Restarting your device can be an effective way to solve problems caused by temporary bugs. These bugs usually develop when a system has been running for a long time, or when there are system changes. To see if your phone reverts to its normal functions, try to hold down the Power button until the screen goes black. If the cause of the problem is a temporary bug, this reboot may help.

Clear cache partition. Wiping of your phone’s cache partition may help in fixing overheating problem if the main reason for it is due to a corrupted system cache. To ensure that your phone’s system cache is in top shape, consider doing cache partition wipe. This will force the device to delete the current cache and replace it with a new one over time. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. With your phone turned off, press and hold both the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for at least 10 seconds.
  3. Let go of the buttons when the Honor logo appears.
  4. Shortly after seeing the logo, the EMUI screen shows up with the recovery mode options.
  5. Press the Volume Down button to scroll to and highlight Wipe cache partition option.
  6. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  7. Use the Volume buttons to scroll to and highlight the next options and Power button to confirm selection.

Install updates. Some bugs are due to coding errors so there’s really nothing much that a user can do about them. All you can do is wait for programming changes, whether they be for apps or Android to fix them. For this reason, make sure that you install all available updates for both the Operating System and apps. If the cause of the overheating problem is known or was previously reported, there may be an update available to fix it.

If you have apps taken outside the Play Store, make sure that you know how to install updates for them. If you get all your apps from Google Play Store, then just open it and install app updates from there.

Uninstall apps. If you noticed that the overheating problem happened after you installed an app, deleting it may help. Try to recall the changes you made to the system before you noticed the problem as that might hold a clue.

Safe Mode. another way to check if there’s a third party app problem is by restarting your phone to Safe Mode. Poor app coding may interfere with Android and lead to problems. While this issue does not happen all the time, a lot of third party app problems may affect the screen or cause severe performance problems. If your screen started having problems or becoming unresponsive after installing an app, delete that app and see if that will fix it. If you are not sure but suspect that one of the apps is to blame, try to restart the phone to safe mode instead. On safe mode, your device only runs preinstalled apps while blocking third party ones. So, if the screen works normally again on safe mode but returns to its problematic state when you reboot to normal or regular mode, that’s an obvious sign that there’s a problem with one of the apps.

To see if a downloaded app is causing a problem, try to boot the device to safe mode.

  1. Turn off the phone. If you can’t turn the phone off normally, wait until the device runs out of power. Then, charge it for at least 30 minutes before doing the next steps.
  2. Turn on the phone.
  3. Once the Huawei logo screen is displayed, press the Volume Down button repeatedly until you see Safe Mode at the bottom of the screen. If you are unsuccessful, repeat Steps 1-3 until you get it right.
  4. If the screen works after Step 2, then there must be an issue with your apps. If nothing happens after Step 1, or if you are unable to boot the device to Safe Mode at all, proceed to the next solutions.

Should the screen work on safe mode and you want to know how to identify the problem app, you need to use the process of elimination to narrow down the culprits. To identify which of your downloaded apps is causing the problem:

  1. Exit safe mode by restarting your device.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. If the problem returns, boot to safe mode again.
  4. Uninstall an app. Start with the most recently downloaded one.
  5. After each removal, restart your device and see whether removing it solved the problem.
  6. Repeat steps 1-4 until you’ve identified the culprit.
  7. After you remove the app that’s causing the problem, you can reinstall the other apps that you removed.

Factory Reset. Overheating can be caused by a bad app, software glitch, or hardware malfunction. If nothing has worked at this stage, you must factory reset your Huawei P20 Pro. If overheating goes away after factory reset but returns after installing your apps, one of them must be the cause. Or it can also mean that there’s a software issue behind it.

However, if the problem returns right after factory reset and even when there’s no apps installed, it’s probably due to hardware malfunction.

To factory reset your device:

  1. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. Then turn the phone while holding down the following key combination: Power Button, Volume Up Button
  3. Hold down the buttons until the Huawei logo disappears from the display and the screen turns black.
  4. You can now release the buttons.
  5. This will now display the boot menu after a moment.
  6. Go to the entry “Wipe Cache Factory Reset ” with the volume keys then select it using the power key
  7. Reboot the phone once the process has completed

Send the phone in. If nothing changes after factory reset, you must contact Huawei so your phone can be diagnosed.

How to fix LG G7 ThinQ can’t hear caller issue

There are a number of possible factors that can cause your problem. Follow our suggestions below to fix this problem.

Verify speaker is working. The first thing that you want to do is to confirm whether or not it’s a phone speaker issue. Check if it’s a possible audio issue by recording your voice talking. If your phone no longer makes sound no matter what you do such as when listening to music or playing a game, that’s a clear case of a speaker problem. You must skip all the troubleshooting steps below and go straight to factory reset to know if it’s a software problem.

Check if it’s a contact issue. Does the problem only occur when talking to one contact? If that’s the case, the reason for that is most likely coming from the other end. Tell your contact to troubleshoot on his or her end to figure out the cause.

Forced reboot. Refreshing the system is one of the basic troubleshooting steps to do in this case. If the problem is being caused by a temporary bug, a restart will most probably help. Here’s what you need to do:

Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for a few seconds and then release both buttons when the phone reboots.

Forced reboot is a good way to simulate the effects of physically disconnecting the battery. If it won’t make a difference, proceed to the rest of the troubleshooting steps below.

Toggle Airplane Mode. Turning Airplane Mode on and off is sometimes effective in fixing network troubles for this device. Make sure to do it if forced reboot has no effect. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Network & Internet.
  3. Navigate to the Airplane mode menu then tap the switch to turn the feature on. After about 30 seconds, tap the switch again to turn off Airplane Mode.
  4. Restart the device.
  5. Check for the problem.

Wipe cache partition. Android uses a special cache called system cache to load apps quickly and do certain tasks efficiently. Sometimes, the system cache gets corrupted, causing problems. To ensure that the phone has fresh system cache, you can clear the cache partition with these steps:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button.
  3. Release both buttons when the System Recovery screen appears.
  4. Use the volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Cache.
  5. Select the Power button to confirm Wipe Cache action.

Clear cache of Phone app. In case the problem lies on the cache of the Phone app, the first thing that you can do is delete the Phone app cache and see what happens.

How to clear an app cache:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear cache. This option may not be available for some apps. If there’s no option for you to clear a browser cache, go ahead and clear its data instead.

Clear data of Phone app. If clearing Phone app’s cache won’t help, follow it up by clearing the data. The steps should be similar. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear data. This option may not be available for some apps. If there’s no option for you to clear a browser cache, go ahead and clear its data instead.

Use another Phone app. To further check if the reason for the problem is app-related, you can try using another app when making calls. If you have social media apps like Facebook Messenger, you can use it to see if calling works.

Replicate the issue on Safe Mode. Sometimes, a poorly coded app may interfere with Android and results to problems. To check if one of your apps is to blame, run the phone on safe mode and try to make a call (you can ask someone to call you). If sound is present during this call, that means you have a bad app problem.

To restart to safe mode:

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button until the System recovery screen displays then release both buttons.
  3. Select Safe mode. You can use the Volume buttons to highlight the option and the Power button to select.
  4. The device starts up with ‘Safe mode’ displayed in the lower-left.  This may take up to 1 minute to complete.
  5. Ask someone to call you.
  6. Check for the problem.

If the problem is not present on safe mode, you should use elimination method to identify which of your apps is to blame. Here’s how:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your LG G7 ThinQ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Reset network settings. Another important troubleshooting step that you can do in this case is to ensure that you reset all network settings on your device. Doing so will erase cellular and wifi network settings. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Tap Restart & reset.
  4. Tap Network settings reset.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  6. Tap Reset Settings.

Check SIM card. Some network problems are caused by SIM card fault. Try to insert another SIM card or use your SIM on another phone. Either way should help you tell if your current SIM is causing the problem or not.

Factory reset. Wiping your phone and returning its software settings to their defaults might look extreme but it’s the last troubleshooting step that you can do in this case.

To factory reset:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Turn off the phone.
  3. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  4. When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  5. When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  6. Press the Power button to reset the device.

Get help from your carrier. There’s only so much that you can do for this issue. If none of our suggested steps above help, call your carrier and let them troubleshoot the problem. At this stage, you already know that it’s not a device problem so there must another factor outside the phone causing it.

Causes for Bluetooth won’t pair issue

There are a number of possible reasons why your Note9 is having trouble connecting to another Bluetooth device. Below are some of the most common ones:

  • incompatibility issue
  • spacing or range between devices
  • low power
  • devices are not setup properly for pairing
  • interference
  • software glitch

Incompatibility between Bluetooth devices is real. Before you try doing some troubleshooting on your Galaxy Note9 or on the other Bluetooth device, it’s a good idea to know if there’s a chance that incompatibility is a factor. If both devices were able to pair up before, then you can skip this check. However, if it’s your first time to connect your Note9 to, say, your car’s Bluetooth, there’s a real chance that there exists an incompatibility issue between them.

Keep in mind that there’s no universal standard for Bluetooth devices. Car makers tend to use a third party Bluetooth system on their vehicles and sometimes, such systems can be outdated. While older Bluetooth devices may still be able to work with newer and regularly updated Bluetooth systems on phones, the profiles they use may not work 100%. This is the reason why some cars that use older Bluetooth may suddenly fail to pair or use previously working functionality when a phone gets an update.

Newer Bluetooth devices are designed to work with older Bluetooth versions but there may still be hiccups from time to time. Every manufacturer can’t support every Bluetooth device so there’s still a chance that something may not work right.

Phones like the Galaxy Note9 are Bluetooth Smart Ready, which means that it utilizes the latest Bluetooth 4.0 technology to connect to other Bluetooth Smart devices. If your Note9 fails to pair with your car or your Bluetooth device, it’s possible that such device or your car does not support Bluetooth Smart. Unfortunately, there’s nothing much that you can do about it and you must upgrade that device if you want to use your Note9 for streaming information.

Prepare the device to pair. This is basic. Before pairing, make sure that both devices are configured to receive each other’s request for pairing by turning them on. If only one device is powered on, the other one won’t obviously detect it. This may seem obvious but a lot of people dealing with Bluetooth pairing issue fail to check this. Depending on the device you’re trying to connect to your Note9, light indicators are the best way to know whether or not everything is set up.

Distance matters. Just like any other wireless device, proximity is a major consideration when pairing Bluetooth devices with your Note9. This may not be applicable for car Bluetooth cases but you should consider this if you are trying to deal with a much larger space like in a building or home. Most Bluetooth connections are only good if it’s within range of 30 ft. if you are working in a big house or building and there’s Bluetooth pairing issue, the distance between devices must be checked. Obstructions like glass, metal surfaces, thick, reinforced concrete walls can also significantly affect Bluetooth signal. When pairing, try to get both devices as close as possible.

Power issues. Older Bluetooth devices are notorious power hogs. While this is no longer the case with devices running Bluetooth 4.0, like the one on your Note9, the other device may be. This won’t apply to your car as it gets power straight from the battery but it can be the case for stand alone ones. Make sure that the device with the problem is connected to a charger or has enough battery level before pairing.

Check for signal interference. As mentioned briefly above, Bluetooth signals can become problematic if something affects it. Bluetooth is unregulated so there are many sources of interference that can affect its signals. If you seem to be having a problem pairing only in one particular place, that’s probably because there is another device that blocks or affects your Bluetooth signals. If you’re having an issue pairing your car with your Note9, try driving away from that location and that should fix it.

If you’re trying to work with a fixed Bluetooth device like a speaker in your home, there might be other factors to consider.

In some cases, wifi signals can also affect Bluetooth. If you have a portable wifi device, try turning it off to see if it makes a difference.

How to fix Bluetooth pairing issue on your Galaxy Note9

As far as troubleshooting on your device is concerned, these are the things that you can try:

Forced reboot. Refreshing the system is one of ways to fix temporary Bluetooth bugs. In this case, try to simulate the effects of a battery pull with these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

Reset network settings. Making sure that your Note9 has all the right network settings is important. You can do that by clearing the current network setup. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
  3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS. Once complete, a confirmation window will appear.

Install updates. This is to lessen the chances of your device getting app and software bugs. Some network problems including Bluetooth errors may be coming from poor coding which only an update can fix. Make sure to keep Android and apps up-to-date.

Clear cache partition. Some forms of network errors and caused by a corrupted system cache. Try to clear your device’s cache partition to keep the system cache in good shape. Here’s what you need to do:

  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Factory reset your device. This is a bit extreme for a Bluetooth issue but if you suspect that there’s a problem with the software, you can wipe the device. Once you’ve secured your data, do these steps to factory reset your Galaxy Note9:

  1. Create a backup of your data.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

“Not Registered On Network” is one of the common errors that can occur on any smartphone. If your Galaxy tablet is unable to connect to mobile data because of this error, or if it’s having a hard time using any of its network functions because of this bug, learn what you can do below.

Simulate a “battery pull.” Restarting the system should be the first thing to do in this case. Many temporary network bugs are fixed by doing this simple step. If you haven’t tried doing this yet, here’s what you must do:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

This procedure simulates the effects of physically disconnecting the battery. Your device has a non-removable battery pack so this is the alternative to the old way of restarting a frozen or erratic device. This also works at times for many network issues so hopefully this helps. If nothing changes though, proceed to the next steps below.

Check for on-going network issue. If “Not Registered On Network” error happens all of a sudden, it’s possible that it may be the result of a service disruption. If you have other phones on the same network, try to see if they also show a similar error. If multiple phones are unable to connect to your network, what you can do is to simply wait for the problem to be fixed. In some cases, a carrier may intentionally disable their cellular services to comply with security requests from the government. In other cases, an unexpected outage may be to blame. As an end user, there’s nothing much that you can do about that.

Reset network settings. At other times, “Not Registered On Network” bug can be due to a device network settings not properly configured. To ensure that your Galaxy Tablet has all the correct settings, try resetting its network settings with these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Network settings.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS button to confirm.
  6. Restart your S8 and check for the problem.

Check SIM card. Sometimes, “Not Registered On Network” bug can also be caused by a fault in a SIM card. To check, you can either insert another working SIM card from your carrier, or you can insert your SIM in another compatible phone.   5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.

Problem: How to fix Samsung Galaxy J5 (2018) is blank and not responding issue

Hey. My daughters Samsung J5 2018 screen has gone completely blank. I’ve followed the instructions given by yourselves but it’s staying the same. It’s vibrating and made a noise but that’s about it. Is there anything else I could try?

Solution: In order to fix this problem, you must do a number of troubleshooting steps to know where the problem lies. Since the phone vibrates, that means it’s not a No Power issue. You may be able to fix this problem on your end. Here’s what you need to do:

Forced reboot. If you haven’t tried restarting the phone yet, you should ensure that you simulate the effects of a “battery pull.” There had been many cases wherein Android has simply encountered an error when booting up. Sometimes, the entire boot up sequence gets interrupted but can go away after a system reboot. Try to do the following to see if you can fix the issue:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

Charge the device. It’s possible that the battery may need topping up at this time. Make sure to allow it to charge for at least 30-60 minutes before you try to power it back on. Also, make sure to use the USB cable and adapter that came with the phone and not just any other accessory.

Calibrate Android and battery (optional). If your phone charges up fine but the problem returns after a short time, consider calibrating the battery. Here’s how:

  1. Drain the battery completely. This means using your device until it powers down by its own and the battery level reads 0%.
  2. Charge the phone until it reaches 100%. Be sure to use original charging equipment for your device and let it charge up completely. Do not unplug your device for at least two more hours and also don’t use it while charging.
  3. After the elapsed time, unplug your device.
  4. Restart the device.
  5. Use your phone until it completely runs out of power again.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5.

You can skip this troubleshooting step if your J5 (2018) fails to charge or does not appear to power back on.

Try restarting to Safe Mode. Safe Mode in Android is a different software environment that only allows third party apps to run. This is one of Samsung’s diagnostic tools in trying to figure out if a problem is due to a bad third party app. In your case, it can also be a way to see if regular Android mode is buggy causing it to fail to boot up. To boot to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off. If you can’t turn it off normally, let the battery drain first. Once the phone is off, charge it for at least an hour. Don’t attempt to power it on while charging is not done.
  2. Then, press and hold the Power key.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key. This should be a good sign. Continue with the rest of the steps below.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If your phone boots up to Safe Mode fine, this means that there’s either a problem with the software or with a third party app. To know if it’s a software issue, continue with hard reset or factory reset via Recovery Mode.

To identify if it’s an app issue:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S9 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Boot to Recovery Mode. Like Safe Mode, Recovery Mode is another alternative software environment initially meant for use by Samsung engineering team only. As it became available to the general public, it has been routinely used to address a range of software problems. In Recovery Mode, Android need not run so it’s a useful tool to know if there’s any OS-level problem that prevents the system from booting up. Here’s how to boot your phone to Recovery Mode:

  1. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).

If you can successfully boot your phone to Recovery and the screen works as it should, then the most likely cause of the problem is software-related. From there, proceed to these:

  1. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  2. Press Power button to select.
  3. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  4. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  5. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  6. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Problem: Galaxy S9 not receiving MMS or group messages after Android 9 Pie update

Hi. Ever since I installed the new update (2nd week of February 2019) I am not able to receive or send group texts, pictures, or animations in my messages. Whenever I try to send a picture or group message or someone tries to send me either of those I get a grey bubble with the words: “No Subject” Message size.. Expires .. Date.. “ It will have a little download arrow but when I try to download it I get a “Error: Network error occurred” at the bottom of my screen. I know have network service as I continue to get single messages and I can use access the web. I hope you can help me with this. Thanks much.

Solution: There are a number of reasons for this problem. Learn how to resolve it by following these steps:

Wipe cache partition. Many issues may happen after a major Android overhaul because of a corrupted system cache. This type of cache is a collection of files and other items that your device keeps in order to do tasks, especially loading of apps, faster. Without a cache partition, your phone will have to always download files that are needed when loading apps. With a cache partition though, Android will simply have to browse through the locally saved files, so initializing apps can be done quicker. During an Android update, the system cache may not get updated or may contain no longer relevant items, which may confuse the OS. This may result to errors or significant performance slow down. In order to ensure that the system cache is in good shape after an update, you want to clear the cache partition. Here’s how that’s done:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Clear network settings. It’s possible that the reason for your problem may be due to corrupted network settings. This can happen just like when it comes to the system cache after an update. If you were able to use MMS or group message before without any problems, then clearing network settings may help. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Swipe up on an empty spot from the Home screen to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap General Management.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Select the option to Reset network settings.
  6. If prompted, enter the PIN or password for your device.
  7. Tap Reset settings to confirm action.

Clear app cache. In case the bug is within the messaging app you’re using, the next good thing to do is to clear this app’s cache. This won’t delete your messages so you can do it safely. Follow these steps to do it:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Cache button.
  8. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Clear app data. Should the problem remain after wiping the app’s cache, the next good thing that you can do is to clear the app’s data. Unlike the previous one, this procedure will erase all your text messages and MMS. Make sure to back them up either through Samsung Cloud or Samsung Smart Switch.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Reset app preferences. In some cases, network errors are caused by incorrect app configurations or missing system app or service. To ensure that all apps can access default apps, try to reset app preferences. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Reset app preferences.
  5. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Use MMS or Group Message on Safe mode. If your messaging app is preinstalled, that is, it comes with the Operating System, you can try to see if a third party app is preventing it from working normally. To do that, you want to restart to Safe Mode and replicate the problem. If your phone receives group messages or if MMS works normally on safe mode, that’s a clear indication of a third party app problem.

To restart your device to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Update apps. Updating Android does not automatically mean that apps are updated as well. Make sure to update all of your apps to lessen the chance of bugs from developing from incompatibility issues. Open Google Play Store app and see if there are any available app updates.

Use another messaging app.

To further check for a possible app trouble, consider using a different messaging app. If a third party app will let you send and receive MMS and the default app won’t, that means that there may be a coding issue with the said app. Make sure to report the problem to your carrier so they can investigate further.

Factory reset. This is a drastic solution but one that is necessary. By wiping the device, you want to ensure that you revert all software settings to their defaults. If it’s a settings issue, your problem should go away after a factory reset. If not, then you want to work with your network operator to figure where the bug is coming from.

Here’s how to factory reset your Galaxy S9:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.

Disable FRP before you reset

With the introduction of Android – 5.0 Lollipop, Samsung devices enjoyed stronger security features. Android – 5.0 Lollipop brought with it Factory Reset Protection or FRP that locks a device if a user fails to provide Google account credentials following a factory reset. This makes it harder for thieves to simply wipe a stolen device and use it. If FRP was enabled before the device was stolen, the screen would be locked for good unless the correct Google account is added to it.

So, even if you are the legitimate owner of your Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, you want to make sure that you won’t be locked out of your own device after wiping it. To do that, you must turn off FRP ahead of time. You also need to do this if you’re planning on giving or selling the device away.

To disable FRP on your Galaxy S7 or S7 edge:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Lock screen and security and remove all passwords, patterns, or PINs you are using to secure your phone.
  3. Once you’ve removed your screen lock, go back the main menu of Settings.
  4. Then, go to Cloud and accounts.
  5. Tap Accounts.
  6. Select your Google account or accounts. Make sure to remove all Google accounts from the device.

  • Network selection mode will be set to automatic.

So, make sure you know the login credentials to the Wi-Fi network you’re connecting to before doing this…

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
  3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS. Once complete, a confirmation window will appear.

Below are the troubleshooting steps to do to fix your Galaxy Tab S4 slow wifi issue

Restart the device. This is one of the basic troubleshooting steps that you need to do in this case. Sometimes, wifi problems are due to temporary bugs. To fix these types of bugs, all you need to do is to clear the RAM and refresh the system in general. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
  2. Then, press and hold the power key while holding down the volume button.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.
  4. Let the phone restart.
  5. Check for the problem.

Confirm wifi is working and not slow. Should restarting your S8 won’t work, the next troubleshooting step is to check whether or not you have a slow internet connection problem, or if the issue lies on the phone itself. To do that, you want to conduct a speed connection check. If you don’t have an app Speedtest by Ookla installed to check your internet  speed, you need to get one from the Play Store first. Then, once you have it, run a speed test three times. If the test results are more or less the same and they are way too low for your subscribed speed, that means there’s a problem with your router or Internet Service Provider side. On the other hand, if the speed test results are good, that is, it is within acceptable speed as far as your internet subscription plan is concerned, then you may have an issue with your phone. To fix it, continue with our suggested solutions below.

Another way to check if the issue lies on the router or your ISP is to check with other devices. If they also get slow connection problems when using your wifi, that’s a tell tale sign of an issue with your router or ISP side.

Ensure device is not downloading or streaming. If you noticed that the general performance of your wifi network is slow, it’s possible that your tablet or any other connected devices may be hogging the bandwidth. If you are on a limited broadband subscription speed and there are multiple devices downloading or streaming videos at the same time, the overall network speed may suffer. Make sure to turn off all devices that uses your wifi and see if that will make a difference.

Forget wifi connection. Another basic thing to do here is to disconnect the device from your wifi network. Doing so refreshes the connection and potentially clears up any bug that may have developed with the current wifi setup. It may help as it disconnects the device from the router and forces a new connection later on. To forget from a wifi network:

  1. Pull down the status bar from the top.
  2. Press and hold on wifi.
  3. Press and hold on the wifi network you’re connected to right now.
  4. Select Forget network.

Reboot your networking device. Aside from refreshing your Galaxy Tab S4, it’s also necessary in this situation to refresh your network devices such as modem/router, wifi signal booster(if you’re using it), etc. Essentially, the goal is to restart everything. Most of today’s Internet Service Providers or ISPs no longer provide a modem and a router but if you still have both, make sure that do a sequential powercycle. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Turn off the modem.
  2. Turn off the router.
  3. Turn off devices affected by slow connection issue.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Afterwards, turn the modem first and wait until it has fully initialized.
  6. Then, turn the router back on and wait until it too has full initialized.
  7. Finally, restart the affected gadgets and see if the connection speed has improved.

If you are only using a router, then simply ignore the step with the modem.

Use static IP. By default, your Galaxy Tab S4 should use dynamic IP or DHCP when connecting to a wifi network. To see if there’s a router bug that may be blocking this feature from working normally, you can switch to static IP instead. This troubleshooting step presumes that you know how to configure and play around with your router configuration. If you have no idea how to configure your router, then simply ignore this step.

If you want to give static IP a try though, here’s how to do it:

  1. Pull down the status bar from the top.
  2. Press and hold on wifi.
  3. Press and hold on the wifi network you’re connected to right now.
  4. Select Manage network settings.
  5. Make sure that Show advanced options is checked.
  6. Under IP settings, select Static.
  7. Once you’ve done that, other fields below will become available so you can configure them. These fields include the IP address, Gateway, Network prefix length, DNS 1, and DNS 2.
  8. Make sure to enter a valid IP address and Gateway IP.

Use third party DNS. In order to connect to the web, there’s a chain of connected devices that must work. Even if your home networking devices and phone are working, it’s possible that there’s another point in your connectivity setup that may not be working. For example, it’s not unheard of sometimes that your carrier’s Domain Name Server or DNS may go down. It’s a type of server that converts the URL you’re typing in the address bar into IP addresses that computers in the web can understand. For example, if you type in Google.com in the address bar, this is not really understandable for computers or servers. It’s the job of DNS to convert the letters into an IP address so that your request will be interpreted as wanting to reach Google.com website. At times, the DNS your ISP uses may encounter an issue causing slow browsing issue. To check if you have a DNS problem, you can try to change the DNS 1 and DNS 2 of your device’s wifi settings, just like when you change from DHCP to static.

To change the DNS servers:

  1. Pull down the status bar from the top.
  2. Press and hold on wifi.
  3. Press and hold on the wifi network you’re connected to right now.
  4. Select Manage network settings.
  5. Make sure that Show advanced options is checked.
  6. Under IP settings, select Static.
  7. Once you’ve done that, other fields below will become available so you can configure them. These fields include the IP address, Gateway, Network prefix length, DNS 1, and DNS 2.
  8. Enter the new DNS servers you want. We suggest that you use Google’s own DNS servers as they more reliable and faster than any other DNS servers out there. For DNS 1, enter 8.8.8.8 while for DNS 2, use 8.8.4.4.

Refresh network configuration. To ensure that all network settings are correct, be sure to also reset network settings on your Galaxy Tab S4. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset network settings.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS button.
  6. Restart your S8 and check for the problem.

Clear cache partition. Some network problems may be caused by bad system cache. To keep your tablet’s cache partition in top shape, make sure to clear the cache partition. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby (Home) key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Check wifi on Safe Mode. There may be a third party app causing the problem. To check, boot the phone to safe mode and check how wifi performs. To restart to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
  8. Check for the problem.

Remember, safe mode blocks third party apps. If wifi improves significantly while your Galaxy Tab S4 is on safe mode, that means that one of your downloaded apps is hogging the bandwidth. It be a legit app or malware. If you have no idea what that app might be, you can use the process of elimination to identify it. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem. If wifi is not slow at all, proceed to the next steps below.
  3. Uninstall an app. Start with the most recent ones you installed or updated.
  4. After uninstalling an app, restart the phone to normal mode.
  5. Check for the problem. If the issue remains, repeat steps 1-4.

Factory reset. If nothing has worked so far, the last troubleshooting step that you can do on your device is factory reset. If it’s a software bug or an app that’s causing the problem, factory reset should help.

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Check router. If factory reset fails to resolve your wifi issue at this point, you can also try to check your router. There are a number of possible reasons that might affect the speed of your router. If you can, try to factory reset the router before calling your ISP.

Get help from ISP. If you can’t still resolve the issue at this time, especially if you are positive that it’s router problem, the most ideal thing to do is to contact your ISP. Unless you purchased your own router separately, you should let your ISP handle the router troubleshooting to prevent causing more issues.

How to fix Huawei P20 Pro won’t charge issue

Learn how to fix a Huawei P20 Pro that won’t charge by following our suggestions below.

Restart the device. One of the first steps that you must do to resolve the issue is to see what happens when you try to restart the system. Your Huawei P20 Pro does not have a removable battery pack so to force it to restart, just hold down the power button until the screen goes black. If there’s a temporary bug that prevents it from starting up, this might help. Otherwise, proceed to the next suggestion below.

Clear the cache partition. There are all sorts of issues that can happen if your phone’s system cache is corrupted. A system cache is a set of temporary files that Android uses to load apps quickly. Sometimes, an OS or app update may corrupt this cache. To ensure that your phone’s system cache is in top shape, consider doing cache partition wipe. This will force the device to delete the current cache and replace it with a new one over time. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. With your phone turned off, press and hold both the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for at least 10 seconds.
  3. Let go of the buttons when the Honor logo appears.
  4. Shortly after seeing the logo, the EMUI screen shows up with the recovery mode options.
  5. Press the Volume Down button to scroll to and highlight Wipe cache partition option.
  6. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  7. Use the Volume buttons to scroll to and highlight the next options and Power button to confirm selection.

Install updates. Some Android problems are caused by flawed coding that’s why no basic troubleshooting will be able to fix it. To minimize the chance of bugs from developing, it’s always a good idea to keep the software environment of a device up-to-date. Make sure that all apps are running their latest version and OS the most recent.

Use another set of charging accessories. If the problem occured out of the blue, the cause may be one of your charging accessories. Make sure that you use the charging cable and adapter that came with the device. Better still, you can use another set of official accessories to charge the device. A charging cable can break if you don’t maintain it properly. There are tiny wires inside the cable that can break. This may be the reason why your phone no longer charges.

If you can’t secure a new set of official LG cable and adapter, try to visit a local store and use their accessories to charge.

Check the charging port. At times, dirt, lint, or dust may block the charging cable in the USB port. If you can, try to check the port on your device and see if there’s something that does not belong. If you think that the port is dirty or if there’s a foreign object inside, blow it out by using a can of compressed air. Avoid inserting something into the port to avoid damaging the system.

Check for moisture detected warning. Was your phone recently wet or exposed to water or moisture? In order to prevent damaging the device, your Huawei P20 Pro will not allow charging if it detects moisture in the port. If you’re getting a moisture detected warning, or if you think that the port is wet, make sure to dry the phone first. You can do that by putting the device inside a sealed container with uncooked rice or packets of silica gel. When using this home remedy, you must have patience as it can take a few days for rice or silica gel to fully absorb moisture. Leave the phone in a container for at least 48 hours.

Charge using a PC. Some users were able to fix charging problems in the past by simply charging their device using a computer. Make sure to do it if none of the suggestions above has worked so far.

Charge while on Safe Mode.  In some cases, problems with a screen is app-related. Poor app coding may interfere with Android and lead to problems. While this issue does not happen all the time, a lot of third party app problems may affect the screen or cause severe performance problems. If your screen started having problems or becoming unresponsive after installing an app, delete that app and see if that will fix it. If you are not sure but suspect that one of the apps is to blame, try to restart the phone to safe mode instead. On safe mode, your device only runs preinstalled apps while blocking third party ones. If your phone charges normally on safe mode, that’s an obvious sign that there’s a problem with one of the apps.

To see if a downloaded app is causing a problem, try to boot the device to safe mode.

  1. Turn off the phone. If you can’t turn the phone off normally, wait until the device runs out of power. Then, charge it for at least 30 minutes before doing the next steps.
  2. Turn on the phone.
  3. Once the Huawei logo screen is displayed, press the Volume Down button repeatedly until you see Safe Mode at the bottom of the screen. If you are unsuccessful, repeat Steps 1-3 until you get it right.
  4. If the screen works after Step 2, then there must be an issue with your apps. If nothing happens after Step 1, or if you are unable to boot the device to Safe Mode at all, proceed to the next solutions.

To identify which of your downloaded apps is causing the problem:

  1. Exit safe mode by restarting your device.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. If the problem returns, boot to safe mode again.
  4. Uninstall an app. Start with the most recently downloaded one.
  5. After each removal, restart your device and see whether removing it solved the problem.
  6. Repeat steps 1-4 until you’ve identified the culprit.
  7. After you remove the app that’s causing the problem, you can reinstall the other apps that you removed.

Factory reset. Wiping your phone should be tried if none of the solutions above has not worked so far. At this stage, we are hoping that the problem is on software level only. If that’s the case, factory reset will most likely help.

  1. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. Then turn the phone while holding down the following key combination: Power Button, Volume Up Button
  3. Hold down the buttons until the Huawei logo disappears from the display and the screen turns black.
  4. You can now release the buttons.
  5. This will now display the boot menu after a moment.
  6. Go to the entry “Wipe Cache Factory Reset ” with the volume keys then select it using the power key
  7. Reboot the phone once the process has completed

Have the phone repaired. Asking help from Huawei should be the final thing to do if nothing changes following  a factory reset. Contact the phone manufacturer so the hardware can be checked or repaired.
