S8 Turns Off Randomly Not Turning On

Problem: hi I hope you may help  i  try everything, the phone turn off by itself i saw the t mobile  logo came on the screen and then black i when i plugged to charge i let it charging for 30 minutes i try to turn on and nothing i knows that while is charging i knows a white line appears on screen across around the volume buttons and power button like a glitch. i charge the phone all night till next morning i did all the steps and nothing i have this phone over six month

Solution: If your phone has a microSD card installed then try removing it as this might be causing the problem. Next, clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port. Charge your phone for at least 20 minutes using its wall charger. If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also check if the phone can charge from a computer USB port.  Check if the phone can turn on this time. If it doesn’t turn on then then try starting the phone in recovery mode then from here perform a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 WhatsApp Preview Message Not Showing

Problem: Hello, I have a problem with Whatsapp application. While the screen is on, I can’t preview my messages. The notification comes in the form of “one new message received” I want to be able to preview the messages while the screen is on. I could not find any preview message” in the settings. Solution: To make sure that your WhatsApp preview content is displayed on the screen go to the phone Settings then Notifications. Make sure that the all apps switch is turned on. You should also go to the WhatsApp app then make sure that the option for show notifications is on.

S8 Not Connecting To Wi-Fi Network

Problem: My phone no longer connects to my home wifi. Restarted the phone and still wont work. I bought it a month ago and now i regret it. Didn’t have any issue until 2 days ago.

Solution: Try restarting your home router then forget the Wi-Fi network connection from your phone. Search for your home Wi-Fi network once this is done then try connecting to it again. S8 Only Charges From Computer

Problem: Hi i have recently been having an issue with my samsung galaxy S8 where it will only charge occasionally and only when it is plugged into my computer. when attempting to charge it from the adapter and cable that was supplied with the phone it only displays a black screen that occasionally flashes in the corners of the phone i have gone through multiple troubleshooting guides and i am unable to find a fix for this the only information i can provide is that it will not charge from 0% with the charger and adapter but it will charge after the phone has been turned on by charging on my computer. if you could get back to me with information regarding the steps needed to repair my phone or if it needs to be sent back and repaired that would be greatly appreciated, thank you. -Gabe P.S. the Android Version i have selected from the android issue questionnaire may be incorrect as i am unable to see what version my S8 is running on.

Solution: What you should do first in this case is to clean the charging port of the phone since dirt or debris stuck in it can usually cause this problem. Use a can of compressed air to clean this port. Once this is done try charging the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger. If the issue still remains then it’s possible that the charging port of the phone might be damaged. The best thing to do right now is to bring it to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Getting Two Copies Of The Same Picture Message

Problem: Every time I receive picture messages from my wife (also android user) I receive two messages of the same picture, but one has a file size on top of it and a red exclamation showing that it failed to download. When I attempt to retry the download, it fails. Where as the other picture is completely fine. I’ve tried restarting the phone and I’ve contacted my service provider and they just shrugged it off and weren’t very helpful.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S8 Keeps Turning On And Off

Problem: Five days ago my Samsung s8  start to act wired. It keep turning on the screen every 10 seconds and turn it off. I disable everything like notifications,bixby,all the running application and still doing the same things. Power the screen on and off. Non stop. I think is a hardware problem. Problem: first of accept my deepest appreciations over making this site and providing solutions to everyone. I have a S8 it was working pretty good till yesterday but Camera isn’t working from today morning. it gives two types of error. 1 camera failed and sometimes can’t use camera with more then one app at the same time.I searched google and did everything from cleaning Cache to factory restore yet the problem persists. two notable things are camera (back) isn’t working in safe mode and other when I type *#7353# the front camera works while back camera shows same camera fail error. How To Hide Photos On Galaxy S8

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is one of the premium Android smartphones that has a great camera allowing it to take amazing photos even in low light conditions. To setup the Secure Folder of the phone

  • Tap on Apps
  • Tap Settings
  • Tap on Lock screen and security

  • Enter your Samsung Account details, then choose SIGN IN. If you don’t have a Samsung account then choose CREATE ACCOUNT. Just follow the steps to create an account)
  • Choose the lock method you wish to use for your Secure Folder
  • A shortcut to the Secure Folder will be added to your Home and Apps screen.

Once you have set this up it’s now easy to hide the photos on your S8 by opening the Secure Folder app then tapping on add files. The files that you add will be transferred from their original location to the Secure Folder of the phone.

Troubleshooting Galaxy S8 that heats up when used

To understand better why a premium phone like your S8 heats up even if used normally, we have to rule out every possibility. Here’s what you need to do…

Step 1: Force restart your phone

It’s possible there are a bunch of apps running in the background. These apps use resources and may also cause overheating especially game apps that are CPU and graphics-intensive games.

The force restart procedure will simulate battery disconnect which refreshes your phone’s memory and close all third-party apps. To do this, press and hold the Volume Down and the Power keys together for 10 seconds. Your phone will reboot normally and after that, observe closely to know if it still heats up.

Step 2: Make sure there’s no sign of liquid damage

There are a couple of things you can do to confirm if your phone has a liquid damage; look into the charger port and check the Liquid Damage Indicator.

The primary entry point of water is the charger port. When there’s moist, you might get the “moisture detected” warning. Regardless whether you’re getting the warning or not, it’s best that you clean the area. You may use cotton swab or a piece of tissue paper that you have to insert into the port to absorb moist.

The next thing you should is check the Liquid Damage Indicator. It’s a small piece of sticker that would change color when it gets in contact with water or even just moist. In your Galaxy S8, you have to remove the SIM card tray and look into the slot. If the sticker is white it means your phone is safe from liquid damage but if it turned into red, pink or purple, it’s obvious it’s liquid damage that’s causing the overheating.

If there’s no sign of liquid damage, then move on to the next step.

Step 3: Find out if it still heats up when in Safe mode

What we’re trying to accomplish here is to know if third-party apps are causing the overheating issue. When you boot your phone up in safe mode, you’re temporarily disabling all third-party apps. You can then observe if the phone still heats up because if the problem is seems fixed while in this environment, then it’s clear that your third-party apps have something to do with the problem. This is how you start your phone up in Safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Assuming the phone doesn’t heat up in this mode, find the apps that are causing the problem and uninstall them one after another until the problem is fixed.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
  4. Tap the desired application.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

Step 4: Backup your files and reset your phone

In case the phone still heats up even in safe mode, then you have no other choice but to reset the phone. It rules out the possibility that this problem is due to a firmware issue and it’s also a preparatory step just in case it still heats up after the reset. But before that, make sure you backup all your files and data as they will be deleted. Follow these steps to reset your Galaxy S8:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Step 5: Bring the phone to the shop

After the reset and the problem still persists, then you should bring it to the shop so that the tech can take a look at it. It’s possible there’s really something wrong with the hardware and if it isn’t caused by liquid or physical damage, then the tech should recommend it for replacement.

S8+ Software Update Notification Keeps On Appearing

Problem: Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. The problem I have is it is telling me to install a software update which I did and it said that the update had been installed but then a notification came up again saying that I needed to install a software update so I did and again it said the update had been installed but then the notification came up again. All in all I’ve done 4 software updates now and the notification still won’t go away

Solution: If the software update has been successfully installed but then you are still getting the notification then this is most likely caused by a software glitch. You should first try to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will have to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S8+ No Service Error

Problem: Whenever I have a software update and leave it for a few days my service will get cut off until I do the update it seems. The first time it happened, I left the update to sit for a week then I have no service. Until I updated. This just happened to me again today, however this time I into left the software update for 2 days. Then I had no service again so I tried updating it and it fixed it. So I found the solution I guess, however I find this very annoying, I would like to know if there is a fix for thought

Solution: It’s possible that this might just be a coincidence as your phone should not lose service if you do not install the software update. For this particular problem I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete you should use the phone as you normally would and check if the issue still occurs.

S8+ Stuck In Safe Mode

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy S8+ is stuck on safe mode since yesterday when the Google maps app crashed. I have tried everything but still safe mode is on. I was able to do a factory reset using the phone options through the phone setting because I couldn’t do it as you advice in your website because when I pressed and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons, the Android System Recovery never appeared. I was wondering if you can help me to get the steps to try flashing the phone firmware using ODIN. I have never try something like that but I have nothing to lose anyway since my phone is very old so I may have to buy another if this one gets damaged but I would like to try this ODIN you mention to see If I can solve the problem cause my phone is still in good shape.

Solution: If you have already performed a factory reset but then the problem still persists then this is very likely a hardware related problem already. Sometimes this can be caused by a button that is always activating which is why the phone always boots in Safe Mode. You can however try to flash the phone with its stock firmware file using Odin. You can get the file as well as the instructions on how to flash your phone from the Sammobile website. If flashing the phone fails to fix the problem then you will have to bring this to a service center and have it checked.

S8+ Unfortunately com.android.setting has stopped working Error

Problem: I have earlier too faced the problem of “Unfortunately, com.android.setting has stopped working” and constant restarting itself again and again but with Factory reset i can again use my phone for a period of time . But this time even after factory reset my phone screen on reboot constantly showing “unfortunately com.android.setting has stopped working” and screen is blank . Help!

Troubleshooting Galaxy S8 with Black Screen of Death (BSoD)

I understand your phone is still new and it should work properly without any issues but here we are trying to find out what’s the reason behind this problem. Basically, the purpose of this troubleshooting is for us to know if the problem is minor and can be fixed easily or if you really have to go back to the store and have the device replaced.

While the BSoD is a serious problem, we’ve already encountered a lot of issues before that posed as this kind of issue but in the we were able to bring the devices back to life. That’s what we have to try here and said, here’s what you should do:

Step 1: Force reboot your Galaxy S8 to rule out possibility of a system crash

The first thing we have to assume is that the phone’s firmware crashed for some unknown reason. This thing happens all the time and we’ve seen hundreds of issues like this in the past only to find out that many of there were a result of a glitch. Before, we usually remove the battery and press the power key for a minute so that phone’s memory would be replaced but since your Galaxy S8 has a non-removable battery, we cannot do that anymore. However, there’s one combo that will do the simulated battery disconnect and that would be enough to fix this problem provided it’s just as simple as a system crash or a glitch.

Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key together for 7 seconds and the phone may reboot normally. If it does, then the problem is fixed, otherwise, you must move on to the next step to probe further.

We surely want to know if your phone would still respond if it detects electric current flow through its circuits. If it displays the usual charging icon as well as light up the LED indicator at the top of the screen, then we can, at least, say the hardware might be fine because if not, then it shouldn’t charge at. However, if the phone doesn’t show those signs, then do the forced reboot procedure while the device is plugged in; its battery may have just been drained completely that there’s not enough battery to power up its hardware and load the operating system. If it still won’t power up with it, then it’s time to seek assistance from a tech.

On the other hand, if the phone charges fine or shows those signs, then leave it plugged in for ten minutes. That should be enough to reach around 5% of battery or even more. After which, attempt to turn the phone on to see if it does respond. If not, then do the forced reboot procedure once again and if it still won’t respond, move on to the next step.

Step 3: Try booting your phone up in safe mode to rule out possibility that third-party apps cause the problem

Third party apps can also cause the system or the firmware to crash especially ones that use too much resources like heavy games. The problem is we don’t know for sure which app is causing the problem. Therefore, we need to do something to isolate third-party from built-in apps and booting in safe mode is the best you can do:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

By following the steps above, you are temporarily disabling all downloaded apps and third-party services. Therefore, if one or some of them is causing the problem, the phone should boot up in safe mode successfully. If it fails, however, then move on to the next step.

Step 4: Attempt to boot your phone up in Recovery mode

The phone got a black screen and won’t respond to whatever it is you do. You’ve just tried to boot it up in safe mode and it failed, so now, it’s time to try to boot it up in another mode, the Android system recovery. We just have to know if it’s still capable of starting up in that mode to find out if the hardware is fine or not. Follow these steps to attempt to start it up in recovery mode:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).

If successful, then we’re already halfway there; at least the phone is capable of powering up its hardware components and loading up its firmware. You can then proceed to wiping the cache partition so that system caches will be replaced or you may opt to doing the master reset. However, if the phone still failed to boot up in recovery mode, then you have no other option but to bring the phone back to the store and have it replaced as it is clear enough there’s something wrong with it.

S8 Not Charging After Getting Wet

Problem: Hi I used my phone for the FIRST time during my travel in one of the islands of the Philippines. Unfortunately, the rain poured so hard and we are on our trek for 2 hours. Meaning the phone got wet by the rain. I can still use it for photoshoot and all until its battery drained. I followed all the instructions of Samsung by drying it up with dry cloth and standing the phone up to let the water drain from the charging port. Unfortunately it wont charge please help me. I thought this is water resistant. Also something appears on the screen, it has a caution icon and a water droplet at the bottom pointing to the charging port. I can still open the phone though but it has minimum percentage of battery.

Solution: It’s possible that the charging port of your phone still has moisture in it. When this happens the phone will disable this port so as to prevent the phone from getting damaged due to a short circuit. What you will want to do is to make sure that the charging port is dry before charging the phone.

The best way to dry the charging port is to use a vacuum. This will suck out the water or moisture inside the phone and not push it back in. In case you don’t have a vacuum then you can use a hair dryer which some device owners have done. The heat and air from the hair dryer will dry out any moisture inside the charging port.

Once the port is dry try charging it using its charger.

If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Moisture Detected Error When Charging

Problem: when I plug the phone in it says moisture has been detected at usb port or cord. Neither have been near water. I took a hair dryer and directed at both sections but it still says it when I try to plug in a charger.

Solution: The main reason why you will be getting the moisture detected error is if the phone sensor detects moisture in the charging port of the phone. The presence of moisture is actually not the problem. The problem is if you attempt to charge the phone while there is moisture in the port. This could lead to some components getting damaged by a short circuit.

Basically, what you need to do in this case is to make sure that the port is dry. Since you have already dried out the port using a hair dryer and you are still getting this error message then this might be caused by some other factor. Perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem.

  • Try using a different charging ford and wall charger to charge your phone,
  • Restart your phone.
  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it’s possible that it is caused by some third party app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Screen Has Low Brightness

Problem: Samsung galaxy S8 touchscreen response but display screen super low contrast brightness almost not visible at all, flickering white rectangle that covers bottom 20% of phone at all times regardless if phone display is on or off, what do i need to replace?

Solution: What you will want to do right now is to turn off the automatic brightness setting of the phone then set the brightness level all the way to its maximum level. If the screen is still too dim and you still see the flickering white rectangle then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps yet. Try to check first if the same issue occurs. If it does then this could already be caused by a faulty display in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Message Pop-Up Preview Not Showing

Problem: Galaxy s8 message Popup and Preview not showing. I have tried going to the setting maybe I have it as blocked. I even changed the setting and restarting and nothing. Unless I did it wrong! Help me please.

Solution: The pop-up preview of text messages makes it easy for anyone to immediately some information on the text message that has arrived on the phone. This feature can be enabled from your phone settings.

  • Launch the Messages app
  • Tap on the MORE option from the top right corner
  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Notifications
  • Tap on the option labeled as Pop-up Display to enable it.
  • Tap on the option labeled as Preview Message to enable it.

In case the issue persists you need to check if it also occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app, possibly a messaging app, that you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case the problem persists then you should proceed with a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S8 Pictures Become Grainy When Sent Via MMS

Problem: I have no problems taking nice sharp pics on my Samsung Galaxy s8, however, when I send them via mms text they become grainy/pixelated.  I have tried changing my allowable sms size to no avail.  Any idea why this is happening, and if there are any fixes for it!?!  I do not recall this being an issue with my s6.  Thanks!

Solution: The pictures that you are trying to send via SMS are being automatically converted to a smaller size to accommodate the size limit that’s being set by the networks. AT&T for example sets a limit of up to 1MB for every MMS that you will send. This means that if your photo is more than 1MB then it will be compressed. During the compression process the overall picture quality will degrade since some information will be taken out thus causing the photo to appear grainy or pixelated.

If you would like to send the picture without it being grainy or pixelated then you should consider using some third party messaging apps or you could also email the picture to the recipient.

S8 Insufficient Space Error

Problem: My Samsung s8  is saying I have insufficient space when I try to send some files in it but I have more than 28GB free storage and RAM is 1.7.. What can I do to solve the issue..

Solution: If your phone has plenty of storage space available yet you are getting the insufficient storage space error then you should wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Once this is done restart your phone. The error message should disappear.

How to troubleshooting Galaxy S8 that’s running slow

Problem: My Galaxy S8 is now running slow and I remember now that there was an update before this issue. Troubleshooting: The good thing about this issue is that we know for sure the phone is capable of powering itself on so we can focus on our troubleshooting. Now, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Try to see if the phone is still slow while in safe mode

This is an important procedure because it will tell you if the third-party apps have something to do with the problem or not. Booting in safe mode alone doesn’t fix the problem but at least you can isolate it. So, here’s how you boot your S8 in safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
  8. Uninstall apps that are causing a problem.

If your phone runs normally in this mode, then one or some of the apps you installed is causing the problem. In this case, you have to move on to the next step, otherwise, skip to step 3.

Step 2: Find the app that’s causing the problem, reset and / or uninstall it

Assuming the phone works well in safe mode, then this step may be a challenge since finding the app that’s causing the problem isn’t easy especially if you already have hundreds of them in your phone. But try to remember the apps you installed prior to the problem and once you already have a suspect, clear its cache and data to reset it and then boot your phone up in normal mode. If the problem still occurs, uninstall the suspected app.

How to clear app cache and data on Galaxy S8

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Clear cache.
  6. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.

How to uninstall apps from your Galaxy S8

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.

  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  5. Press the Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

It will take a little longer for the phone to boot up after wiping the cache partition as it will rebuild those files. But if the problem still persists after this, then you  have no other option but to reset your phone.

Step 4: Backup your files and data and reset your phone

This procedure is your last resort, at least, before you send your phone to a tech. This will bring the phone back to its factory default settings but also delete all your files and data so make sure you make a backup of important files you have. After that, disable Factory Reset Protection so you won’t be locked out, then feel free to reset your phone.

How to disable Factory Reset Protection

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Google.
  5. Tap on your Google ID email address if multiple accounts are setup. If you have multiple accounts setup, you will need to repeat these steps for each account.
  6. Tap 3 dot icon.
  7. Tap Remove account.
  8. Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT.

How to reset your Galaxy S8

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

  3. Tap Backup and restore.
  4. If desired, tap Back up my data to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  5. If desired, tap Restore to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  6. Tap the back button to the Settings menu and tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
  7. Tap Reset.
  8. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
  9. Tap Continue.
  10. Tap Delete all.

Step 5: Bring your phone back to the store

After doing all those steps and your phone is still running slow, don’t do anything to it anymore. A brand new phone should work without a hitch and it’s not really your job to deal with this kind of problem. So, bring the phone back to the store and have it replaced.

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to check if you are in an area with a good signal reception. If the signal is spotty then try going to a different location then check if the issue still occurs.   • Restart your phone then check if the issue still occurs. By restarting the device it will refresh the phone software and reset its connection to the network.

  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

Once you’ve done all this and the problem still occurs or the error still shows up, move on to the next step to continue your troubleshooting.

Step 2: Reset the Contacts app as it might be just an issue with the app

An app reset will actually be clearing its cache and data. You’ve already booted your phone up in safe mode and the error still occurs so it might be an issue with the pre-installed app. Since Contacts is specifically mentioned in the error, we have reasons to believe it’s the one having a problem so we have to reset it.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap Contacts in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Clear cache.
  6. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.

You may have to reboot your phone after this and then try to open the same app to see if the error gets triggered and if so, we have to assume it’s a problem with the firmware. Move on to the next step.

Step 3: Delete the system cache as it might be just an issue with some of them

Since we are now trying to rule out the possibility that it’s a firmware issue, then we have to go after the caches first. They’re actually temporary files generated by the system to make the opening or launching of apps and services quicker the next time you open them. However, these files are also prone to being corrupted and when it happens, things like this could occur. Another reason why we have to do this first is because your files and data are safe and it has a reset-like effect on your phone. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  5. Press the Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Observation is key to knowing what the problem with your phone really is, so after the phone rebooted, try to open the app that’s crashing to find out if the problem remained. If so, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Step 4: Backup important files and then reset your Galaxy S8

This is your last resort. If the problem still shows up after this, then you have to bring the phone back to the store and have it replaced because such problem is very annoying and affects the most basic purpose of a phone–be able to make / receive calls. However, you will lose all important files you saved in your phone’s internal storage, so make sure to create a backup. After that, disable the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) or the anti-theft feature:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Google.
  5. Tap on your Google ID email address if multiple accounts are setup. If you have multiple accounts setup, you will need to repeat these steps for each account.
  6. Tap 3 dot icon.
  7. Tap Remove account.
  8. Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT.

Then, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

How to troubleshoot Galaxy S8 that has charging issues after an update

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 and my fast charging isn’t working. I haven’t used any different charger cord or block, it came with my phone. It takes 6+ hours to charge my phone and it started to happen after the new software update. I’ve tried other cords and blocks and it still happens. It’s very irritating because one night it worked and then the next it didn’t.

Solution: As you’ve been said that the issue started after the update, it is evident that the files and data may have been corrupted during the process and that may be the reason your phone is not charging normally. On the other hand, if numerous apps are running in the background that is also a factor why the battery is charging slowly because they also use the battery and that’s the reason why it takes several hours before the phone can fully charge. Now to begin our troubleshooting, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Force restart your Galaxy S8

Since the problem started after the update it is possible that a glitch in the system caused it. Through the forced reboot, the memory of the phone will be refreshed and all applications running in the background will be closed. So, if a glitch in the system caused the issue, then this procedure might fix it.

Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time for 7-10 seconds and wait until your phone boots up. After doing so, connect it to the charger and observe if it is already charging normally. If not, move on to the next step.

Step 2: Reboot your phone in Safe mode and charge

Now try to find out if your phone fast charges or charges normally while in safe mode. There are times when a lot of apps are running in the background and they use up more battery. When it happens, your phone may resort to slow charging to let you know of the problem. Here’s how you start your S8 in Safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If the phone charges fine in safe mode, then rest assured the hardware of your phone is fine and the problem is just caused by some third-party apps running in the background. In this case, all you have to do is reboot your phone in normal mode and it should charge normally now.

Step 3: Turn your phone off and try charging it

If the phone still slow charges while in safe mode, then power it down and connect it to the charger. When everything is turned off, the fast charging feature should come into play and you will immediately notice that. However, if it’s still not charging normally even if it’s turned off, then you have to resort to other methods.

Step 4: Wipe off the cache partition

When some of the system caches get corrupted for some reason and the firmware continues to use them, performance issues may occur including slow and/not charging issues. In this case, all you have to do is wipe the cache partition so that the system will replace all the caches. But the thing is, we really don’t know if it’s really the caches that’s causing the problem so we just have to wipe the cache partition to rule this possibility out.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  5. Press the Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the phone is still not charging normally after this, then move on to the next step.

Step 5: Backup your files and data and reset your phone

As I said earlier, the firmware plays a big role in the charging process that’s why if everything else failed, we have to do the reset to finally rule out the possibility that this problem is just one of the firmware-related problems.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts.
  4. Tap Backup and restore.
  5. If desired, tap Back up my data to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  6. If desired, tap Restore to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  7. Tap the back button to the Settings menu and tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
  8. Tap Reset device.
  9. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
  10. Tap Continue.
  11. Tap Delete all.

Troubleshooting SD Card that can’t be detected by Galaxy S8


This troubleshooting guide will be centered on making sure it’s not an issue with the phone but we will also be giving you some pointers on how to thoroughly check the SD card itself. We don’t suggest things that can potentially damage your phone or its accessories so you can rest assured that this troubleshooting guide will be safe yet effective.

Verify the problem is not due to physical or liquid damage

Determining physical damage is easy as there should be visible dents or scratches if the phone was dropped or got hit by something hard. If you tried removing its covers and then this problem started, it should also be a sign of a physical damage. Depending on your expertise, you may try fixing the problem by undoing what you did with your phone if possible.

As to the possibility that this is due to liquid damage, the best thing you could do is check the USB port and the liquid damage indicator itself. Look into the  charging port to see if there is trace of moisture or if it’s wet. If it is, then use a cotton swab to clean around the area or insert a small piece of tissue to absorb the moist.

To check the liquid damage indicator, remove the SIM card tray and look into the slot. Look for the small sticker which would tell you if liquid has entered your phone. If the sticker is still white, then the device is free from liquid damage but it’s a different story if it turned red, pink or purple.

Should there be signs of physical or liquid damage, the best thing you could do is bring the phone to the shop and let the tech handle the problem for you.

Test the SD Card with other devices

It’s simple. If the SD card work with other devices, then the problem is with your phone but it doesn’t mean it’s serious. However, if the SD card doesn’t work with other devices as well, then it’s clear that the issue is with it and there’s a whole bunch of other possibilities that we have to consider.

But assuming it works with other devices, here’s what I suggest  you do with your phone:

  • Run it in Safe mode but make sure the SD card is properly mounted. Access your files from the card to see if you can, if you can’t, then move on to the next procedure.
  • Make sure it’s virtually mounted on your phone. For the SD card to work, it should be physically and virtually mounted in your phone. Go to the Settings > Storage and see if it’s mounted.
  • Make sure the SD card is compatible with your device. There’s a small percentage of SD cards that aren’t compatible with certain models of phones. Refer to the user guide or packaging label to know more about the SD card or contact the store where you bought it.
  • Reset your phone and see if it works. Assuming the card is compatible with your phone but it still fails to read it, then let’s rule out the possibility that your phone’s settings have been messed up. Backup your important files and data and then reset your phone to see if it can read the card after that.

Things you should do if the SD card can’t be detected by other devices

You will only have to do these things if the SD card doesn’t work well with your S8 and other devices. Go through the list and see if one of them works…

  • Let your laptop read it. If possible, get an SD card adapter and then let the computer or your laptop read it. Computers can easily read external storage devices even if they have issues.
  • Format the SD card using a computer. Regardless whether your laptop can read the SD card or not, try to reformat it. This is the best solution if the card got corrupt for some reason. Of course, if your computer can read it, grab that opportunity to make a backup of your important files.
  • Mount the SD card back on your phone. After you’ve reformatted the card, it’s time to try it on your phone to see if the format process did help.
  • Buy a new one. After doing all these things and the SD card is still unreadable by your devices, then it’s time to get a new one. If you just bought it, you better bring it back to the store and have it replaced.

SD cards are often subject to corruption especially if your device randomly restarts. The first time you’re getting an error when trying to access files from the storage device, do your best to make a backup of your important files and data so that you won’t lose them if things go south.

S8 Not Turning On After Getting Wet

Problem: I went to a water park and took a couple pictures in less than one foot of water. The phone then didn’t want to turn on and kept vibrating as if you were clicking a button. A blue screen then popped up and turned on but then turned back off. NOW it doesn’t want to turn on or charge. The camera turned foggy and so did the front sensors.

Solution: It looks like water has entered the phone and is causing this problem right now. Although this device has a water resistant feature it’s still possible for water to enter the phone especially if the rubber seals are damaged. The best thing that you can do right now is to place the phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb any moisture inside the phone. Once this is done try to check if the problem still occurs. If it does then the phone is most likely water damaged in which case you will need to bring it to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Keeps On Rebooting During Charging

Problem: Phone just started continuously rebooting DURING CHARGING ONLY.  When it is not connected to a charger, it doesn’t reboot. I tried the “Wipe System Cache”, but it didn’t fix it.  I booted in SAFE MODE, but it still continuously reboots when it is connected to charger.This just started happening about two days ago.  I have not installed any new apps in over 3 months. It only happens when the charge is plugged in. It happens with ANY charger I try to use.

Solution: What you will want to do right now is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air making sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port gets removed. Next, try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge your phone. Does the problem still occur? If it does then try charging the phone from a computer USB port. In case the issue does not occur then the charging port of the phone is damaged in which case you will need to have this replaced at a service center.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty internal component. The best thing to do right now is to have the phone checked at a service center.

S8 Is Not Charging

Problem: I Plugged my S8 phone into an IMac to charge while visiting my sis. It didn’t work and… Since then the phone won’t charge. Sometimes it will flash the lightning and charge a little over time. I’ve tried different cables and I’ve done a hard reset. Same problem… i get how it’s theoretically possible the port is bad… but that just doesn’t seem likely as a result of hooking into an IMac. I’m rocking the external battery charger life now, and could use any advice. Thanks!

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. In case the phone still does not charge after this then you will need to have this checked at a service center.

S8 Rebooting Randomly

Problem: My phone was fine until all of a sudden it froze and shut off, I had to use the Volume Down button and Power Key to even get it going again and it quickly did the same thing again, I then started it in ”safe mode” and it continues to shut down permanently or restart itself randomly, any help would be great. I also do not know what android version I am on.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then try removing this first. Proceed with starting the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should have this checked at a service center.
