This is a premium model released last year that is quite popular among consumers due to its numerous features. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 third party text messaging app not getting text messages after software update issue and other related problems.

S8 Third Party Text Messaging App Not Getting Text Messages After Software Update

Problem: I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S8 . I will try to explain this so that you understand it. After the Oreo update, as you know, the custom text notifications went away.  I then downloaded Textra, uninstalled it and downloaded Android Messages. Now I’ll explain why. 1. While using Textra and the Android Messages apps, there are certain messages that won’t come through. (In particular, my contact that has a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S9.) 2. In order to view messages from that contact,  I must open up the Samsung Messages app, click Cancel (no, I don’t want to set Samsung Messages as my default) – I THEN get kicked back to the home page. 3. I now must go and re-open Samsung Messages, AGAIN click Cancel and then it allows me to view the messages. 4. At that time if I want to reply to the message I must go into the Android Messages app to respond.  The Samsung app is disabled as far as replying. As you can imagine this is ANNOYING! All because Samsung removed the custom text notification option. DOES ANYONE have any ideas as to what messaging app would be compatible for Samsung AND Android to prevent this ridiculous “back and forth” process? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Related Problem: I have a galaxy S8. Since the most recent Android update, I am not able to receive messages in any of the 3rd party sms apps for 2 of my contacts, which happen to be my husband and daughter, so kind of important. They come through and work fine in the native app, but they do not show up at all in any 3rd party app. (I have tried Pulse, YAATA, mood, and chomp)

Solution: It appears that this is caused by a bug in the software update. The best thing that you can do right now is to clear the cache and data of both the Samsung text messaging app and the Android messages app. Once this is done make sure to set the Android messages app as the default text messaging app Check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should consider doing a factory reset to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the issue still persists after the reset then you will have to wait for a future software update that will fix this problem.

S8 Apps Stopped Working After Software Update

Problem: My S8 done a recent update. Since then I can not load media into messenger, use the device management without it crashing or transfer my media files via USB onto a computer. I keep getting a message saying mtp stopped working, of and periodically gallery stopped working. These issues are annoying enough but the worst is my phone has gone to the black screen of death twice since the upgrade and never before it. I can get my phone back up by holding down the volume down and power at the same time.

Solution: There’s a possibility that the issues you are experiencing with your phone is caused by old software data that has not been completely removed during the update process. The best thing that you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory  reset.

S8 Not Reading microSD Card After Software Update

Problem: Hello. For the past few weeks my phone has been lagging and I ended up messing up the battery I believe. It charges fine but sometimes I can restart it and it jump from 45 to 15 % and I restart it again to go back to 15%. About 4 days ago I took the sd card out when the phone was off and put it back in. When I turned it on the sd card didn’t read and still hasn’t to this day. I haven’t tried it in a pc but this was the first time I have taken it out since I purchased the phone is January. I have many apps and pictures / vids and nothing seems to work. It is not scratched and I have cleaned it softly with an eraser. My software update finally showed up yesterday (which I figured was the cause of the lag along with the battery) and it hasn’t lagged since then but my sd card is still not reading (which I read an update can fix)

Solution: The best thing to do right now is to verify if the card is indeed working by letting your computer read it. You will need a card reader to do this. If the card can be read then you should copy its contents to a folder in your computer then format the card using the FAT322 partition. Once the format is done you should be able to use the card on your phone. However, if you computer can’t read the card then it is most likely corrupted already in which case you will need to buy a new one.
