How to fix Galaxy S8 calling issue: not receiving some calls

Problem #1: Galaxy S8 won’t boot up and stuck in boot screen

Hi Droid Guy. I bought a Samsung Galaxy s8 edge in China and have not had any issues with it until now.  Now the phone will not reboot and is stuck on a pseudo boot screen. none of the online solutions work (press and hold volume down and power; press and hold volume up and Bixby key, etc) There is no Samsung or Android logo that comes up on the screen, but there appears to be a boot screen (Recovery mode, Safe mode or Normal mode), but the arrow just keeps scrolling through the options even when I am not touching anything. Not sure what to do now – Help!… Please. I have no carrier as I have simply been using it on wifi and as it won’t turn on I am not sure of the android version.

Solution: Samsung devices that fail to boot up normally are usually the result of software tampering. Did you try to root, flash, or install any unofficial software before you got this problem? If yes, then try to undo whatever you did. For instance, you can try to unroot the device if this issue occurred right after using a root software. In general, flashing stock firmware can fix most  boot issues. If you tried to install a custom ROM prior to noticing the problem, then you should know how to flash the stock firmware too.

Failure to boot up normally is not only caused by software bug. In some other cases, a shorted or physically damaged device may also fail to power on or even boot up. If your S8 was dropped or exposed to water or elements before, you may have  hardware problem at hand. In this case, you want to let a professional check the hardware so you can be advised whether or not repair will be effective.

Problem #2: How to fix Galaxy S8 calling issue: not receiving some calls

My S8 wont receive SOME calls.  it is intermittent. it is every day.  it is a variety of numbers. It is not my call blocking as I have checked to make sure I am not blocking that number or numbers. Is there an App that is causing this?

Also just recently my contacts load slowly when searched too but this is a brand new issue. the other issue is several weeks. When people call they get no answer or busy or voice.  I never see these calls in my call log either. Also I have no idea what Android system HELP.

Solution: Yes, it’s possible that the cause of the problem might be one of the apps you added. To know that, you need to restart your phone to safe mode and observe it for at least 24 hours. This should give you enough time to notice any difference. While the phone is on safe mode, you want to make and receive as many calls as possible to replicate the issue.

To restart your S8 to safe mode, follow these steps:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Remember, only pre-installed apps will be allowed to run on safe mode. If calls work and the phone works normally, that’s a clear indication of an app interfering with Android or with your phone’s network function. To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S8is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Delete app data

For your secondary concern about Contacts app being slow when searching for information, try to wipe its data and see what happens. Before you do this troubleshooting step, be sure to create a backup of your contacts somewhere else. Once you’ve done that, here are the steps to clear the data off your Contacts app:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S8 and check for the problem.

Return software information to defaults

Should the two solutions above fail to resolve the issues, wipe the phone by doing a factory reset. Factory reset will wipe all personal data from your phone so be sure to back them up ahead of time.

To factory reset your S8:

  1. Create a backup of your data.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Problem #3: How to fix Galaxy S8 texting issue: not sending or receiving text messages

Galaxy S8. When the Google app updated about 3 months ago, my phone quit  receiving or sending text messages. Using the built in Samsung messaging app, when I would send a text, the little circle would spin and eventually fail. I would also receive texts in large waves of getting several at once. I did a factory restore and then updated apps one at a time until I determined it was the google app. Even with the latest update (Dated Sept 25). I have to uninstall updates to get texting to work. Now several other apps dependant on google don’t work (google assistant for one). Any help is appreciated.

Solution: It’s strange to know that Google app is responsible for texting issues. It’s our first time to hear about this but if you’re positive that this is happening on your device, here are the troubleshooting steps that you can do:

Try using another Google account

If you have another Google account, use that in your S8 and see if it will lead to the same problem. If you have no second account, just create a dummy, remove the main account from the phone, and add the other account.

Delete data of Google Services Framework app

Android devices are dependent on key Google products that are buried deep within the operating system. One key Google app is Google Services Framework. If this app develops a bug, it can affect other Google apps and services, or even Android itself. To see if there’s an issue with this app, you want to return it to its default settings. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Look for Google Services Framework and tap it.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S8 and check for the problem.

Observe the phone on safe mode

Some third party apps may interfere with default system apps like Google Play Store and others. If you added apps from third party sources (and not from Play Store), it’s possible that one of them may be causing the problem. Check how the phone works when it’s on safe mode. If text messages work on safe mode only, you can bet an app is to blame.

Contact your network operator

There’s a chance that the cause of the problem is network- or account-related. If all device troubleshooting won’t help at all, we suggest that you get help from your carrier.

Problem #4: Verizon Galaxy S8 won’t install update

I’m using a Galaxy Samsung S8. I cant update my software. It’s Verizon carrier but I’m using an airtel SIM card on it. I have tried installing smart switch on my PC but I can’t even connect the devices to each other its telling me to connect USB through MTP even after doing that the devices are not connecting to each other, I dont know what to do.

Solution: Most Samsung smartphones are built to work on specific carriers. These phones are what we call carrier-branded devices. They run carrier-specific Android versions so in a way, their software is unique for that carrier only. To prevent bricking unlocked, carrier-branded devices, updates will be blocked if they are used in networks outside of their original carrier. This is the reason why your Verizon S8 won’t update. If you want to run the latest Android experience on this device, you have to manually install the latest Verizon firmware thru flashing.

Flashing is a risky software procedure and is only recommended for advanced Android users (those who understands the risks and knows how to find a way out should problems arise). If you haven’t heard of the term “flashing” before, we suggest that you stay away from.
