How to fix LG G7 ThinQ unresponsive screen issue
One of the difficult issues to deal with when it comes to smartphones is an unresponsive screen problem. Today’s troubleshooting article will try to resolve unresponsive screen problem on LG G7 ThinQ. Find out the ways to check whether or not your device needs repair, or if there’s something that you can do on your level to fix it.
Problem: LG G7 ThinQ unresponsive screen issue
I dropped my phone and it shattered a small area on the bottom right side of the phone. The phone was still functional after. I made calls and texted. Screen worked all buttons and functions worked. Then it died and the screen is now black and unresponsive after I charged it. I can turn it on and I can see that I have notifications of green blue and red lights but that is all. The screen stays black and no calls came through either. Obviously some sort of messaging came through if I have a green light notification.
Solution: Based on the description of the problem, hardware failure is the most likely reason why the screen may have stopped responding. It may had been physically impacted badly causing it to stop working. To check if that’s the case, you can try to do some indirect troubleshooting steps. Keep in mind that if there’s indeed hardware failure in your case, the suggestions below may be futile as they are meant to check only for possible software issues.
Force reboot your LG G7 ThinQ
Whether your LG G7 ThinQ is merely acting funny, slow, or has become totally unresponsive, it’s important that you perform a simple yet often effective troubleshooting step: forced reboot. This won’t delete any personal data so it can be done safely. Forced reboot is the equivalent of physically removing the battery. While you can’t disconnect the battery from your LG G7 ThinQ, you can simulate its effects by doing a forced reboot. To do that, simply press and hold the Power and Volume down key for 8 seconds. This will force the device to shut down as if the battery has been disconnected, and then turn back on, as if you’ve inserted the battery again.
Charge using another set of accessories
If you’ve been using an old USB cable, get a new one and see if that will help. USB cables go bad overtime, especially if you don’t take care of them. The tiny wires inside can break easily. The more of these wires are broken, the less the carrying capacity of the said cable when charging. Eventually, not enough wires will be there to transfer energy from the adapter to the phone, resulting to poor charging performance.
When replacing the cable, try to get an official USB cable from LG.
Observe in Safe Mode
In case there’s an app that’s interfering with Android and preventing the screen from working properly, you can try to see what happens on Safe Mode. On this mode, no third party app (downloaded apps) will be permitted to run. So, if the phone works on safe mode without any problems at all, you can bet a bad app is the culprit.
To restart your LG G7 ThinQ to safe mode:
- With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
- In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
- When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
- After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.
- Use the device for at least 24 hours while it’s on safe mode. This should give you enough time to see if there’s any difference in performance.
If there’s no problem on safe mode, you can try to pinpoint the app by doing these steps:
- Boot to safe mode.
- Check for the problem.
- Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
- After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
- If your LG G7 ThinQ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.
Master reset
Restoring the software defaults of your device may help in fixing the problem. This can happen if the reason for the problem is caused by a software bug. To factory reset your LG G7 ThinQ:
- Back up all data on the internal memory before performing a master reset.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
- When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
- When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
- Press the Power button to reset the device.
