Solved Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Moisture Detected In Charging Port

Note 8 Moisture Detected In Charging Port

Problem: Hi, im having an issue with check USB moisture (note 8), and after two days from researching, i still haven’t find a total solution. I let my battery dead empty, and when i head to sleep, i plugged it, but it didnt charge. So i powered it with its last gasp and the notification of check usb pop up. So it powered off for good. i tried another cable and nothing either. I saw then that the usb port had corrosion, although at least two months since it had contact with water. I got it to charge by holding power and volume down, and then plugin the same cords that sometimes show Moisture issues and sometimes no. I cleaned the plug with contact cleaner, perfectly clean. I tried SAFE MODE. I made Factory Reset. and still. The issue is that sometimes it charges ok, and works fine. But RANDOMLY it starts showing the moisture notification, or makes a quick restart that shows the “SAMSUNG” logo or the “LOCK icon” and back to the screen and the moisture notification. Apps still working fine. I don’t really know what it is. The moisture notification might pop up out of the blue, or with a cord that was correctly working. Pls if u know what can it be. I followed most of your steps.  thnks, sorry for taking ur time!

Solution: The moisture detected error will usually occur when the phone sensor detects moisture in the charging port of the phone. When this error occurs you won’t be able to charge the phone since it is one way of protecting the internal circuitry from being damaged. There are however instances when other factors can trigger this error such as a software glitch or dirt in the charging port.

The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the charging port of the phone is free from moisture. To do this use a mini vacuum or a hair dryer to remove the presence of moisture in this port.

In case the phone is dry and the error still occurs then there’s a possibility that this is already caused by a faulty hardware component, possibly the sensor not working properly. We can already rule out any software glitches since you already performed a factory reset on the phone which doesn’t fix the problem.

The best thing that you can do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 8 Not Turning On

Problem: Galaxy Note 8 has been running poorly for a week, so I cleaned out the cached items, deleted a few apps and possibly did a force stop on something I shouldn’t have. I was prompted to restart the phone so I powered off. It would not come back on. Does not indicate that it is charging. Nothing. Black Screen. I tried every troubleshoot I could find and nothing. Finally it came on briefly, it looked like a reboot screen. I selected the ‘turn phone on normal’ option and the android guy appeared on the screen. He fell over like he was dead and the phone went off again. I can’t get it to come back on no matter what I try. Please help!

Related Problem: My phone all of a sudden turned off and won’t turn back on, I tried all of the troubleshooting tips but nothing works. I’ve only had it for 4 months and tried returning it through its warranty but Verizon is not accepting it through their warranty because it has a small scratch on the device (which has nothing to do with the issues).

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this particular case is to make sure that the battery of the phone has sufficient charge. Follow the steps listed below to charge the phone.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in the port.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger. In case the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also check if the phone can charge from a computer USB port.
  • Remove the microSD card of the phone ( if you have one installed).
  • Turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this.

If the issue persists then try starting the phone in recovery mode then from here do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.

You don’t have to make a switch networks more often. In fact, if your phone comes with a plan, you may not have to switch between these networks at all. First Solution: Reboot your Note 8

If it’s the first time that Youtube crashed, then don’t do anything that could potentially mess up settings in your phone. Instead, reboot your device to refresh its memory as well as reload all core services.

There are times when the firmware and apps glitch and while they may seem like a serious problem, they’re not; you can fix them with a simple reboot. So, hit that Power key and take a little time rebooting it. After that, open Youtube to know if the app still crashes and if it does, try the Forced Reboot procedure.

Second Solution: Clear cache and data of Youtube

Third Solution: Backup your files and data and reset your phone

For every app-related problem, a reset is also very effective especially if the app in question is pre-installed. However, you will have to go through all the hassle of backing up your files and data. So transfer your files over to the SD card or your computer. After the backup, disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your Google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.

Quick fix for Galaxy Note 8 that won’t turn on

Most of the time when the phone’s screen turns black and unresponsive for no apparent reason, it’s a firmware crash. The same is true for units who are left charging overnight but found out to be dead in the morning and won’t turn back on. Many of the complaints we received from our readers regarding this problem were sent after an update so there’s also a possibility that this is due to a firmware issue. But assuming that the problem started out of the blue, the best solution to it is Forced Restart.

In Galaxy Note 8, a forced restart will simulate battery disconnect which may refresh the device’s memory. It’s actually the same as the battery pull procedure we often do to phone with removable batteries. It’s a simple procedure yet very effective in dealing with issues like this. To do this, press and hold the Volume Down and the Power key simultaneously for 10 seconds or until the screen flickers and logos start to appear on the screen. Do the same procedure a few more times if the phone won’t respond to your first attempt or try to press and hold the Volume Down button first and without letting go of it, press and hold the Power key. Keep both keys held for 10 seconds.

If the phone boots up, then you can consider the problem fixed at this point but there’s no guarantee this would never happen again in the future but at least, you now know what to do if the phone becomes unresponsive again.

If, after several attempts, your phone still won’t boot up, then it’s time to troubleshoot it. Move on to the next section for that.

Troubleshooting Note 8 that won’t respond to Forced Restart

I understand that some owners are hesitant to troubleshoot their devices especially new Android users. So, if you are not comfortable following the procedures below, just bring the phone to the service center so that you can be accommodated by a Samsung tech. For those who are willing to do a couple of procedures to see if the phone turns, here’s what I suggest you do…

Check for signs of physical  and/or liquid damage

Look for scratches, dents and cracks as any force that could render the phone useless should leave a mark on the outside. If the phone looks flawless or has some minor scratches, then it’s not physical damage that caused this.

As to liquid damage, here’s what you should do…

  1. Look into the USB/charger port to find trace of water.
  2. Use a cotton swab to clean around the area or insert a small piece of tissue paper to absorb the moisture.
  3. Blow into the port to get rid of any foreign objects that may interfere with the circuit.
  4. Remove the SIM card tray and look into the SIM slot to find the Liquid Damage Indicator (LDI).
  5. If the LDI is white (it’s the original color), then there’s no water damage.
  6. If the LDI however, turned red, pink or purple, then it’s clear the cause of the problem is liquid damage.

In case of physical and/or liquid damage, bring the phone to the tech as there’s only so much you can do about it.

Try charging your phone to see if it would respond

It’s possible that the battery got drained and a few seconds before the battery got totally depleted, the system may have crashed leaving the phone without power and a crashed system. This would surely result to a blank screen, unresponsive keys and not charging issue.

I understand the phone won’t charge if the system crashed so regardless whether the phone responds to its charger or not, leave it plugged in for ten minutes after which, try turning it on. If it still won’t respond, then do the Forced Restart procedure again but this time while the phone is plugged in.

Basically, what we’re trying to accomplish here is to…

  • find out if the phone responds to its charger,
  • know if it’s just a drained battery issue,  
  • and determine if the phone would respond to Forced Restart while charging.

If this procedure fails like the first one, the next procedures will be to test your phone if it’s still capable of turning its components on.

Try running the phone in Safe mode

There’s a small possibility that the problem is due to some apps you installed. So we will try to disable all those apps at once and see if the phone boots up. You can do so by running the phone in safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If the phone starts in this mode, then you can consider the problem fixed as the phone finally turned on. The next minor thing to do is find the app that’s causing the problem and uninstall it. However, if the phone still won’t boot up in this mode, then try the next one.

Boot the phone up in Recovery mode

This is the final test. If it still fails to turn the phone on, you should bring the device to the service center as it might be an issue with the hardware. But if you can successfully boot the device in Recovery Mode, then you can try wiping the cache partition and/or do the Master reset. Both of these procedures can surely bring the phone back to its normal operation and performance.

How to boot Note 8 in Recovery Mode and wipe cache partition

  1. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  2. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  3. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  4. Press Power button to select.
  5. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  6. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  7. Press the Power key to restart the device.

How to boot Note 8 in Recovery Mode and do the Master Reset

  1. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  2. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).

First solution: Restart your phone.

For first instances, your phone screen may be flickering because of random software glitches. And in that case, the issue can potentially be resolved by restarting your device or soft reset. This should clear any minor software errors that might have caused your display to suddenly act oddly. A soft reset or device restart can be done in two way depending on what state your device is. If your phone is still able to respond properly, you can do the usual restart with these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds until the Power off prompt appears.
  2. Tap the Restart option.
  3. Tap Restart again to confirm.
  4. Give your phone up to 90 seconds to complete the restart process.

Meanwhile, if your phone is frozen or not responding, you can perform a soft reset using the hardware keys instead. And here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for up to 45 seconds.
  2. Release both buttons when the phone power cycles.

No data will be deleted from either methods so there’s no need for backups.

Second solution: Quit all background apps.

Background apps can go rogue when they crash and when this happens, certain functions including display rendering may also become affected or stopped working as intended. Although it offers an advantage to keep your apps running in the background especially for multitasking purposes, there are times when you really have to quit them. To make sure that none of your background apps is trigger your display to flicker at some point, force them to close with these steps:

  1. Press the Recent apps key located on the bottom left corner of the screen. Doing so will show up a list of your recently used apps.
  2. To close an individual app, tap the app from the list and drag it to the left or right. Alternatively, you can just tap the X.
  3. To close all recent apps at once, tap the option to Clear All instead.

After clearing all background apps, restart your phone to apply  the new changes and to refresh the phone’s internal memory.

Third solution: Manage display settings.

Some people who have encountered a similar issue in which their Galaxy Note 8 screen starts to flicker have found out that screen brightness has something to do with it. Others have it that the screen would flicker if the display is set to too high while others at some other level. To make sure this is not causing your phone to act the same, try to manage the display settings and adjust the screen brightness. Here’s how to access and manage display settings, particularly screen brightness on your Samsung Galaxy Note 8:

  1. Open the notification panel by dragging the status bar downwards.
  2. Next, drag the notification panel downwards.
  3. Then tap the arrow next to the brightness adjustment bar.

  1. Turn your phone off.
  2. Then press and hold the Power button past the model name screen.
  3. When the Samsung logo appears, release the Power button.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power button, press and hold the Volume Down key.
  5. Keep holding the Volume Down key until the phone finishes restarting.
  6. By then you should see the Safe Mode badge at the bottom left corner of the screen. At this point, you can release the Volume Down key.

If the screen doesn’t flicker while in safe mode, then it’s apparently due to some bad apps. Now you can try uninstalling individual apps starting from the most recent app you’ve downloaded before your phone screen started to flicker. Don’t forget to reboot and test your device after removing an app to know when the problem is gone.

Fifth solution: Perform a master reset.

A master reset or factory data reset can be regarded as the last option if none of the given solutions is able to fix the problem and that your Note 8 screen flickering issue persists. It might be due to a more complex error in the phone system like bug-triggered firmware crashes that caused you this problem. And the only way to clear these errors is a full system reset. But it’s also worth noting that this reset will result to data loss as it will wipe everything out from your phone system including your personal information, customized settings, downloaded apps and files. That said, creating a backup would be necessary. If you’re willing to take a chance in this method, then back up your files and follow these steps to proceed with a master reset.

  1. Press the Volume Up, Home (Bixby), and Power buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. When the Android logo appears, release all buttons and wait for the Android recovery menu options to display.
  3. From the Android recovery menu, press the Volume Down key several times to highlight or select wipe data/factory reset option.
  4. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  5. Press the Volume Down key until Yes — delete all user data is highlighted.
  6. Then press the Power button to confirm select. This will instigate the master reset.
  7. When the reset is finished, the Reboot system now option is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power button to restart your phone.

Alternatively, you can reset your Note 8 through settings. Here’s how:

  1. Swipe up on an empty spot from the Home screen to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Go to Cloud and accounts.
  4. Tap Backup and restore. Doing so will allow you to create a backup of your important data before wiping them all.
  5. After creating backups, go back to the Settings menu.
  6. Tap General Management.
  7. Scroll to and tap Reset.
  8. Then select Factory data reset from the given options.
  9. Tap Reset to continue.
  10. If prompted, enter your credentials.
  11. Tap Continue.
  12. Then tap Delete all to confirm reset.

Wait until your phone completes the reset and restarts. By then you can proceed with the initial setup process.

Service option

A damaged screen component on your Galaxy Note 8 might be the underlying cause of the problem. In this case, none of the aforementioned solutions can fix the issue because what your phone needs is service. Having said that, you will need to take your device to a nearby service center and have it diagnosed by an authorized technician instead. First solution: Force close Camera app and restart.

If it appears as a random issue like when you only see the camera failed warning when using a certain video or image file through the camera app, then it’s an isolated issue that can be rectified by forcing the camera app to close and then restart it. Here’s how:

In the case where your device gets frozen as the camera app becomes erratic, a forced reboot would be necessary. It’s a simulated battery removal procedure that works the same as a soft reset does without affecting any data stored on the internal memory of your phone. And here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for up to 45 seconds.
  2. Release both buttons when the phone reboots.

Once your phone has rebooted completely, try to launch the camera app again and see if the camera failed error is gone. If not, then move on and try the next solution.

Second solution: Clear app cache and data/wipe cache partition.

Cache are temporary files that are stored on apps and phone system too. These files are important for fast reloading of similar information but can also trigger errors when they get corrupted. To rule corrupted app cache from the possible triggers, try to clear cache and data from the Camera app with these steps:

  1. Swipe up on an empty spot from the Home screen to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings then select Apps.
  3. Tap on Camera app.
  4. Go to Storage.
  5. Tap the option to Clear Data then tap OK. Selecting this option will delete any stored data in the app including settings and other saved information thus it’s optional.
  6. Tap Clear Cache. This option clears temporary files or cache files from the Camera app.

Restart your phone when you’re done clearing app cache and data and then try to open the camera app. If it still shows a camera failed error, then try wiping the cache partition on your Galaxy Note 8 with these steps:

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. When it’s powered down, press and hold the Volume Up, Bixby (Home), and Power buttons simultaneously.
  3. Release all buttons when the Android logo appears. The Android system recovery menu options will then show up following the Installing system update prompt.
  4. Press the Volume Down button several times to highlight wipe cache partition from the given options.
  5. Press the Power button to confirm selection.
  6. Press the Volume Down button until Yes is highlighted.
  7. Then press the Power button to confirm.
  8. When the Reboot system now option is highlighted, it denotes that the wipe cache partition is finished. At this point, press the Power button to restart your device.

Third solution: Boot into safe mode and diagnose apps.

All third-party apps are temporarily disabled when you boot your phone in safe mode. This then allows you to determine whether a third-party app is triggering the Camera failed error upon loading the camera app. Follow these steps to enable safe mode and diagnose apps on your Note 8:

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Press and hold the Power button past the model name screen.
  3. Release the Power button when the Samsung logo appears on the screen.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power button, press and hold the Volume Down button.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume Down button until the phone completely restarts.
  6. When you see the Safe Mode label at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down button.

Try using the camera app while in safe mode. If the error is gone, then you will need to find out which from your downloaded apps is the culprit. If the camera failed error still occurred with safe mode enabled, then you need to continue troubleshooting software problems on your phone that might have caused the camera app to become this erratic.

Fourth solution: Update device software to the latest version available.

New software updates not only bring in new features but also offer security enhancements and fix patches to address existing errors and software problems. If you haven’t already, then check for any available software update for your Note 8 over-the-air (wirelessly) with these steps:

  1. Open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Software update. If an update is available, back up all important data for safekeeping.
  4. To instigate update downloaded, select the option to Download updates manually.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Tap Start.

Quick fix to the Black Screen of Death issue on Galaxy Note 8

We already know this solution because black screen of death is often caused by a system crash and there’s no better way to address it than this. Since we published our first article on this problem, we’ve received hundreds of messages confirming that this solution works. In our first post, this is just part of our troubleshooting guide but now it’s a fix although we can’t guarantee that it will fix every black screen issue since not all problems are the same. But it won’t hurt if you try this…

Solution: Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key simultaneously for 10 seconds (or more).

If this doesn’t work, press and hold the Volume Down button first, don’t let go of it, then press and hold the Power key. Keep both keys held together for 10 seconds and it should bring the phone back to life provided there’s enough battery and that this problem is due to a system crash. If this fails either, do this…

  1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
  2. Connect your Galaxy Note 8 to it using the original USB cable.
  3. While the phone is connected to its charger, press and hold both Vol Down and Power keys together for 10 seconds or more.

After trying these things and the phone remained to be unresponsive and won’t turn back on, then you should try troubleshooting it before you decide to bring it to the service center.

  2. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  3. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  4. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  5. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  6. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If the phone turns on in this mode, consider the problem fixed. The next thing you need to do is find the app that’s causing the problem and uninstall it.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap the app you suspect.
  4. Tap Uninstall.
  5. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

However, if the phone also refuses to turn on into this mode, try the next step.

Try to boot your Note 8 in Recovery mode

The Android system recovery mode is the fail-safe for almost all Android devices so even if there’s a serious firmware issue for as long as the hardware and the battery is fine, your phone should be able to boot up in this mode. If successful, you can do a couple of things that might help fix all other issues with your phone. But just like booting in safe mode, the moment your phone turns into this mode, consider the problem fixed. But I suggest you do the wiping of the cache partition if the phone boots into this mode successfully…

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Or you can do the Master reset if there are complications after wiping the cache partition but bear in mind that all your files and data will be deleted including your contacts, messages, pictures, music, videos, etc…

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

However, if the phone cannot boot up in recovery mode, then it’s time to bring it to the service center because the problem is something that you can’t fix by yourself. But even if you are techie enough to open up your phone, there’s no guarantee you can fix the problem by yourself and the fact that the warranty will be voided when you do so makes things a bit more complicated.

What to do about the Galaxy Note8 with a flickering screen

A brand new phone should work without a hitch but there are always times when you can get something that has issues out of the box. We can’t control these things and if you’re one of the owners that face this kind of problem, the least you could is troubleshoot your device to know if this is something that can be fixed without any help from a tech. With that being said, here’s what you need to do about it…

Step 1: Reboot your phone in safe mode and observe

We immediately need to rule out the possibility that the screen flickering is caused by a third-party app. We’ve seen cases wherein some apps may cause the display to flicker from time to time especially CPU and graphics-intensive games.

When the problem is at the app level, it can easily be fixed since third-party apps can easily be removed together with all their files and data. That’s why it’s imperative you do this procedure first. Here’s how you run your Note8 in Safe mode…

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

After you’ve successfully brought your device to run in this environment, continue using it to know if the flickering continues because if it disappeared, then it’s a clear sign the problem is caused by one or some of the third-party apps you installed. In which case, try to check if there are apps that need to be updated and take time to update them. Here’s how it’s done…

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Tap the Menu key and then tap My Apps. To keep your apps automatically updated, tap the Menu > Settings then tap Auto-update apps to select the check box.
  4. Choose one of the following options:
    • Tap Update [xx] to update all applications with updates available.
    • Tap an individual application and then tap Update to update a single application.

If you are already suspecting an app or two, try clearing their caches and data first and if that won’t work, uninstall them and then reboot your phone in normal mode to know if the problem still occurs.

How clear apps cache and data on Galaxy Note8

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Clear cache.
  6. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.

How to uninstall applications from your Galaxy Note8

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
  4. Tap the desired application.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

On the other hand, if the flickering continues while in safe mode or if the problem remained even after doing all the procedures above, then there’s a chance it’s a firmware issue. Move on to the next step.

Step 2: Delete all system caches as some may have already been corrupted or obsolete

We’ve also encountered this kind of problem before that started shortly after an update. It suggest that they system caches have something to do with it. We cannot actually pinpoint which cache is causing the problem as there are thousands of them in your phone and average users don’t have access to them. So, to rule this possibility out, you just have to delete all those caches at once and the system will rebuild them during the boot up process.

Just boot your phone up in Recovery mode and then wipe the cache partition and then leave everything else to the system…

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After this, closely observe your phone to know if the screen flickering remained and if so, then the last step may help you get rid of it.

Step 3: Bring your phone back to its original configuration

We will still be ruling out the possibility that this problem is due to a firmware issue so we need to try to bring the phone back to its factory default settings. However, all your files and data that are saved in your phone’s internal storage will be deleted so make sure you make a backup. After which, take note of your Google ID and password or better yet, disable the Factory Reset Protection in your phone so that you won’t be locked out after the reset.

How to disable Galaxy Note8 Factory Reset Protection

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Google.
  5. Tap on your Google ID email address if multiple accounts are setup. If you have multiple accounts setup, you will need to repeat these steps for each account.
  6. Tap 3 dot icon.
  7. Tap Remove account.
  8. Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT.

How to perform the Master Reset on your Galaxy Note8

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Alternatively, you can also reset your Note8 from its Settings menu…

If the flickering continues after the reset, then bring your phone back to the store to have it checked or even replaced.

Solution to WiFi / network issues with Galaxy Note 8

Internet connectivity issues are often minor problems that any user could be able to fix regardless of the device they’re using. When it comes to the Galaxy Note 8, fixing these types of issues are a lot easier since the device itself is built to be connected to a network that allows internet access and that by default, the device is programmed to automatically connect to trusted networks.

One of the effective solutions that would help you fix a connectivity or network issue is by resetting network settings. This will reset all data connections back to the out of the box factory defaults and the following changes will occur:

  • Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
  • Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
  • Background data sync settings will be turned on.
  • Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
  • Network selection mode will be set to automatic.

The following network connection status will be brought back to their defaults as well:

  • Airplane mode: OFF
  • Bluetooth: OFF
  • Data roaming: OFF
  • Mobile hotspot: OFF
  • VPN: OFF
  • Mobile data: ON
  • Wi-Fi: OFF

So basically, after doing the procedure, you will have to turn the WiFi back on to detect the hotspot you usually connect to and continue your observation. Now, here’s how you reset the connection settings in your Galaxy Note 8:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
  3. Tap Reset settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

If the problem continues to manifest after this procedure, try resetting all settings in your phone as there could be some incorrect settings in your phone. It almost has the same effects as with the full reset only that your files and data will not be deleted. Here’s how you do that:

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Backup and reset.
  3. From the Reset section, tap Reset settings.
  4. Review the info then tap RESET SETTINGS.
  5. If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  6. To confirm, review the info then tap RESET SETTINGS.

Note 8 No Sound Notification For Text Message

Problem: I have had my Galaxy Note 8 phone for several months with no problems,except when a friend returns a reply to my text within a minute or so my phone does not give me a sound notification. I must keep checking my messages to see reply. This only happens on return replies. What can I do to correct this problem?

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to check if you might have muted the conversation thread of your friend. When it is muted you won’t get any notification sound. To unmute the thread open the text message then select the contact name located on the top left corner. Tap on the down arrow which will then open the conversation settings. Make sure the notifications bar setting is in the on position.

In case the text messaging thread is not muted then proceed with the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then you might have downloaded an app that is causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 8 Message Sending Failed Error

Problem: My phone is having an issue where when I try to text someone it tells me the message failed to send due to a network error. I’ve tried restarting the phone many times, and I know I have service because I am able to access the internet without WiFi and make phone calls. In addition, people are telling me they are getting the messages that my phone says are undeliverable, delivered to them four times in a row.! It just started doing this and I can’t seem to fix it.

Solution: If your phone is getting a strong signal from the network and the recipient of the text message is receiving the text message even if your phone is saying that the sending has failed then the problem could be caused by a glitch in the messaging app. Try clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager. Once this is done wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. Try checking if the issue still occurs.

In case the issue persists then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Note 8 Not Receiving Text Messages

Problem: I’m not receiving texts until way after they are sent (sometimes 30-45 minutes, sometimes an hour and a half or more). When they come in, they just appear in the text thread where they should have been with the correct timestamp of when they were sent, but I receive no notification. A second issue is when I go look back on messages, some of my messages that I recently sent will no longer appear in the thread. As if they were never there. Even though i know for a fact they were sent because people responded. All of these issues started a week ago today when I updated my phone to the newest version. I’ve tried several soft resets. Thank you!

Solution: If this problem occured right after a software update then this is most likely caused by some old software data that has not been completely removed during the update process. The best way to fix this problem is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy note 8, Verizon unlocked. I have changed carrier to AT&T, it works except can not send an attachment of text messages. I have contacted Samsung and AT&T but did not fixed the problem.

If the phone fell on a hard pavement or floor, the screen might crack or break. If there’s no sign of physical damage, try liquid damage.

The first thing you should look into if you’re trying to find out if your phone is suffering from liquid damage is the USB or charger port. Your Galaxy Note 8 is water-resistant but it’s not waterproof so it’s always possible that liquid is the cause of this kind of problem.

Upon checking the USB port and there’s no sign of liquid, try to check the Liquid Damage Indicator to know if water has found its way inside your device. Remove the SIM card tray and look into the SIM slot; look for a small sticker. If it’s still white, then there’s no liquid damage however, if it turned red, pink or purple, then it’s confirmed that there’s liquid damage. Either it’s physical or liquid damage, you should bring the phone to a tech.

On the other hand, if your Note 8 doesn’t have any signs of both physical and liquid damage, then move on to the next step.

Do the Forced Reboot procedure

The Note 8 packs a really impressive hardware but it’s still not free from minor firmware-related issues like system crashes. If the firmware crashed for some unknown reason, you may also get the black and unresponsive screen, then your phone won’t charge; it’s because the firmware isn’t responding.

Unlike previous models of Galaxy devices that have removable batteries, you cannot do the battery pull procedure with your Note 8. However, you can simulate battery disconnect which basically has the same effect as with the battery pull. To do this, press and hold both the Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. If the problem is indeed just due to a system crash, then your phone should boot up normally after properly doing the forced restart procedure.

If the phone doesn’t boot up after attempting for the first time, then do it again just to be sure you’re doing it right. Remember, there’s a different effect if you pressed the Power key before the Volume Down button. You should press both simultaneously or you can try pressing and holding the Volume Down button and without letting go of it, press and hold the Power key.

Try charging your phone

I understand the phone may not charge even if you connect it to its charger if its firmware crashed but we need to confirm. So, connect the AC adapter to a working wall outlet and connect the phone to it using the original cable. Leave the phone be for 5 minutes and if the charging signs aren’t showing up after that, then do the forced reboot procedure once again but this time while the phone is connected to its charger.

It’s possible that the battery got completely drained and the system crashed just before the phone died due to lack of power. By pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power keys while the phone is connected to the charger, you’re actually forcing it to restart and use its charger as the source of power instead of its battery. If it successfully turns on after this, then allow it to fully-charge its battery and this might be the end of the problem. After all, the main problem here is that the phone went completely dead but now it’s up and running.

However, if it still won’t turn on after doing this procedure, do the following two procedures to know if your phone is still capable of powering up its hardware.

Attempt to turn it up in Safe mode

Another possibility that we have to consider at this point is the fact the third-party apps (or any app for that matter) may also cause this kind of problem especially if some of them keep crashing. Applications that you downloaded and installed will run only in normal mode, if one or some of them is causing the problem, then you should be able to boot your device in Safe mode wherein all third-party apps are temporarily disabled. Follow these steps to see if your phone can still boot up in safe mode…

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If the phone successfully boots up in this mode, then next thing you should do is find the apps that cause the problem and uninstall them.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
  4. Tap the desired application.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

Try to boot your phone up in Recovery mode

You need to do this if your phone couldn’t boot up in safe mode and remained unresponsive when you tried to. In recovery mode, all hardware components are powered up but the Android interface and all other files and apps will not run. The purpose of this procedure is for us to know if your phone is still capable of running in this mode because if so, you can actually do a couple of things that might just fix the problem; you can try wiping the cache partition and do the Master reset.

How to run Note 8 in recovery mode and wipe cache partition

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

How to boot Note 8 in recovery mode and do the Master reset

You only have to do this if your phone successfully run in recovery mode but couldn’t successfully boot up after wiping the cache partition. Take note your files and data will be deleted if you can successfully do this procedure…

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
