J7 Screen Is Unresponsive

Problem: Hi, I have a one year old j7 that was working fine yesterday. It was getting pretty full of pics and video and I may have been running out of memory. Today it started acting crazy, the screen only responds sometimes, the keyboard has letters that won’t respond, it even opened google and searched out Papa Johns and the screen was jumping all over the place. I have pulled the battery numerous times, ran Ccleaner, unloaded all the photos and video to my computer the touch screen is still having issues. I have a screen protector should I try taking it off? This has been a very good phone until today. (not really sure of the OS) Thanks for your help.

Solution: You should try taking out the screen protector as this sometimes interferes with the sensitivity of the screen. If the issue still occurs even when the screen protector is removed then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

J7 Not Turning On

Problem: Samsung galaxy j7 2016 suddenly turned off and not working. I have replaced the battery and tried pressing the power key but it didn’t work. Plugged into a number of chargers but not showing anything whereas earlier it used to show a battery icon in switched off condition while plugged in. Not responding anything. Everything happened suddenly, probably with a light jerk. No water was in contact with it before being damaged. Please help.

Solution: Since you have already replaced the battery and the phone still does not respond then it’s very likely that this is a hardware related problem possibly caused by a faulty power IC or some other component. The best thing that you can do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked so that the exact cause of the problem can be pinpointed.

J7 Not Turning On After Software Update

Problem: There was recently an update for my phone I put off for several days until today. I began the update process and my phone turned off and will now not turn back on. when holding down the power button it vibrates once, the screen flashes on then shuts off. When plugged into a charger it does this repetitively until unplugged.

Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to simulate a battery pull by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this. If you have the variant with the removable battery then just remove the battery and press the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert the battery after this then turn on the phone.

If the problem persists then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger. If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then perform a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J7 Not Getting Software Update

Problem: The problem i’m facing is it wouldn’t update the firmware. It always says system is up to date (but it is only android 5.1.1). I tried many times to update it using Odin but after it didn’t work. (it freezes on the downloading updates page). Currently it is working normally with some minor errors like it crashes when i try to open data usage setting option, the text message feature (both system app and third party apps) fails to receive delivery messages and the major issue is when i answer calls the screen doesn’t lock and the phone senses my ear touch and opens a lot of pages while i’m taking. I was hoping a system update would solve some of these issues at least and that’s why i’m trying to update it. I’ve also made factory default but it didn’t bring any solutions. I also tried to use smart switch to update the software but it doesn’t bring an update on that either. (my phone is rooted) but it was also challenging before i rooted it. Any help would be very appreciated. thanks a lot for your time and support.

Solution: If the phone can’t be updated even by Odin then this might already be a hardware related problem. Try the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Use a different USB cord and computer when trying to update the phone using Odin.

If this still fails then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J7 Downloading Do Not Turn Off Error

Problem: I recently got the message “downloading, do not turn off”. It stayed there and did not move at all. Not knowing what to do, i took out the battery and put it back. Now the phone will note turn on. I thought it may have been the battery so i bought a different one, but nothing changed. Now every time i try and turn it on, i see that same robot and same message for about 4 seconds and the phone turns off. Can you help me figure out what the issue is? Thank you

Solution: Try starting the phone in recovery mode and from here perform a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. In case this fails to fix the problem then you should consider flashing the phone with its updated firmware file using Odin. You can get the firmware file from the Sammobile website which is also where you can get the instructions on how to flash your phone.

J7 Screen Is Flickering Grey

Problem:  The screen is flickering with a grey tone. As it continues it will change to a green and red tone across the whole screen and eventually the whole screen with stay a greeny red tone but you can still make out everything. I have taken the case off and battery out but this can be a short term fix some o dv the time it has been becoming more frequent and i’m not sure what to do.. When i first started noticing it, it was when it had been on charge but now it seems to happen more frequent.

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then this might already be a hardware related problem possibly caused by a faulty display. You will then need to bring this phone to a service center and have it checked.
