How to fix LG G7 ThinQ keeps freezing issue (unresponsive or slow)

Is your LG G7 ThinQ slow, unresponsive, or freezing? Today’s post deals with all these issues. We hope you’ll find this one helpful.

How to fix a frozen or unresponsive LG G7 ThinQ

Having a frozen or unresponsive device is one of the most frustrating issues that one can experience. Not only is this issue difficult to diagnose but oftentimes, there’s usually no clear resolution. Troubleshooting an LG G7 ThinQ that keeps freezing needs time and patience. If you have both, follow the steps below.

Forced restart

Whether your  LG G7 ThinQ is merely acting funny, slow, or has become totally unresponsive, it’s important that you perform a simple yet often effective troubleshooting step: forced reboot. This won’t delete any personal data so it can be done safely. Forced reboot is the equivalent of physically removing the battery. While you can’t disconnect the battery from your LG G7 ThinQ, you can simulate its effects by doing a forced reboot. To do that, simply press and hold the Power and Volume down key for 8 seconds. This will force the device to shut down as if the battery has been disconnected, and then turn back on, as if you’ve inserted the battery again.

Clear cache partition

Should nothing come out positive after doing a forced reboot, the next troubleshooting step to do in this case is to refresh the system cache. You can do that by clearing the cache partition, where this type of cache is kept. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  3. Tap Storage > Internal storage.
  4. Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
  5. Tap Free up space.
  6. Tap Temporary files & raw files.
  7. Select the following options:
    • Cached data
    • Clip tray temporary files
    • Raw files from camera
  8. Tap Delete > DELETE.

Observe in Safe Mode

Clearing the cache partition usually fixes slow performance problems on LG devices. However, if the problem remains after wiping the cache partition, you should deal with the the next possible cause: third party apps. To check if there’s an app problem that causes your LG G7 ThinQ to freeze or become unresponsive, you can restart it to safe mode. On this mode, no third party app (downloaded apps) will be permitted to run. So, if the phone works on safe mode without any problems at all, you can bet a bad app is the culprit.

To restart your LG G7 ThinQ to safe mode:

  1. With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  2. In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  3. When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  4. After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Use the device for at least 24 hours while it’s on safe mode. This should give you enough time to see if there’s any difference in performance.

If there’s no problem at all, you can try to pinpoint the app by doing these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your LG G7 ThinQ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Reset all settings

If the problem still occurs at this point, the next good thing that you can do is to reset all settings. Doing this procedure will reset all system settings including ringtones, sound settings, display settings, network settings, etc. Unlike a full factory reset though, this won’t delete personal data.

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings icon > System Settings icon.
  2. Tap Restart & reset Restart & reset settings icon.
  3. Tap Reset settings.
  4. Tap RESET SETTINGS, to confirm.
  5. If applicable, enter the PIN, password, etc.
  6. Tap OK.

Install updates

Some bugs can only be fixed by changing some codes. This is where system updates are important. Make sure that your LG G7 ThinQ is updated all the time.

Factory reset

This is a drastic solution for this case but you may need to do it should nothing work after exhausting all troubleshooting steps.

To factory reset your LG G7 ThinQ:

  1. Create a backup of your files.
  2. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  3. Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  4. Tap Restart & reset.
  5. Tap Factory data reset.
  6. If desired, tap the Erase SD card checkbox.
  7. Tap RESET PHONE.
  8. Tap Delete all.
  9. Tap RESET
