DISM command or Deployment Image Servicing and Management is used to fix a wide range of file corruptions in your system by replacing incorrect and damaged files. It is usually the next thing to do whenever an SFC scan does not resolved an issue. Although DISM commands are tools that are effective in solving system file corruptions, there are instances wherein deployment operation can also gets corrupted and gets an error. In this case, DISM 1726 Error message “The remote procedure call failed” reported by some users usually happened even before DISM operation almost ends. Fix DISM Error 1726 “The remote procedure call failed” issue on Windows 10 PC

There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from a third party software, a system files pending corruption repair to Remote Procedure Call RPC services is disabled preventing DISM process to run. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix the problem.

Before performing the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem I suggest that you try restarting your computer first. This will refresh the operating system as well as remove corrupt temporary data and is quite effective in fixing most software related issues.

Step 1: Update Windows

The very first thing you need to do is to Update your windows operating system. Updating to the latest windows version fixes bugs and corrupt files that may have caused DISM error 1726 to occur on Windows 10.<br>Windows Update is an easy process, follow the steps below:

  1. Press Start or Windows key located at the lower left.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. At Windows Setting, click on Update and Security.

Step 2: Change Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service Startup

Remote Procedure Call RPC service is the service control manager for COM and DCOM servers. If the service is disabled, all other programs that uses COM and DCOM which also includes DISM commands will not function hence DISM error 1726 occurs.

Here’s how to change startup type for Remote Procedure Call Service:

  1. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialogue box.
  2. At RUN dialogue, type “services.msc” and hit Enter or click OK to open Services section.
  3. Locate Remote Procedure Call (RPC) from the lists of Services.
  4. Right click on it and select Properties.
  5. At Properties window, click on General Tab.
  6. Change Start up type to Automatic.
  7. Click Apply to apply changes made.
  8. Click OK to exit properties window.
  9. Restart your computer.

After computer completely reboots, check if DISM 1726 Error “The remote procedure call failed” issue on Windows 10 PC still occurs.

Step 3: Modifying RpcSs Registry Key Value Data

If changing the startup type of Remote Procedure Call service did not fix DISM error 1726, you can try to enable Remote Procedure Call service via the Registry Editor.

Note: Since the step involves making some changes to the registry, there may be instances where inaccurate manipulation can lead to system files reactions. Make sure to back-up the registry key first before performing the steps below.

Here’s how to Modifying RpcSs Registry Key Value:

  1. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialog box.
  2. At RUN dialog box, type “regedit” and hit Enter or click OK to open Registry Editor
  3. At the left pane, navigate to the following path:
  4. Double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder to expand it.
  5. Click SYSTEM folder to expand it.
  6. Click CurrentControlSet Folder to expand it.
  7. Click Services Folder to expand it
  8. Locate and click RpcSs
  9. At right pane, double click Start entry.
  10. Change Registry Key Value Data to 2 and then press OK to confirm changes.
  11. Exit Registry Editor window.
  12. Restart your computer

After computer completely reboots, check if DISM 1726 Error “The remote procedure call failed” issue on Windows 10 PC still occurs.

Step 4: Disable Windows Search Service Temporarily

There have been reports from users that DISM error 1726 has been resolved while disabling Windows Search service while DISM command is currently running. Doing so, you will be able to complete DISM commands after disabling Windows Search Service.

To do this:

  1. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialog box.
  2. At RUN dialog box, type “services.msc” and hit Enter or click OK to open Services section.
  3. At Services Window, scroll down and locate Windows Search service.
  4. Right click on the service and click Properties from the drop down menu.
  5. At Properties window, stay on General tab.
  6. Click Stop to temporarily stop Windows Search service.
  7. Run the DISM command again and then check if DISM error 1726 still occurs.
  8. After you RUN the DISM command and the operation completes without the error, Start Windows search service by following the steps 1 to step 6 above and click Start.
  9. Click OK to apply changes made.

After following the steps mentioned above, you will successfully fix check if DISM 1726 Error “The remote procedure call failed” issue on Windows 10 PC
