What to do if My Files app on Galaxy Note8 is slow in displaying files
Hello and welcome to another troubleshooting article for the #GalaxyNote8. Today’s post covers an issue about Samsung’s My Files app. We also address other similar Note8 issues so we hope you’ll find this post and make use of it.
Problem #1: Galaxy Note8 microphone keeps breaking
I purchased a galaxy Note8 in May 2018 in Germany. My secondary microphone (located top) was working fine for 2 weeks after purchase. But when I made whatsapp video call it stopped working. When I try to make normal voice calls on speaker the opposite person cannot hear me. I have updated the software to the latest. But still it the problem was there. I tried factory reset and the issue was still there. I tried to record voice using camera video mode and the voice was not recorded. I got the galaxy Note8 repaired in Samsung service center and then it was working fine for 1 week. After one week when i made a video call in whatsapp the secondary microphone stopped working again. I tried factory reset again and the issue did not get solved. I have given the mobile to Samsung service again. During the first service the Service center informed there is a problem in electromechanical component and it was repaired. Now am waiting for what reason they provide for the second service. Am so frustrated since I am unable to make a basic call on speaker on such an expensive device.
Solution: Your issue may be an isolated one because we are not aware of an issue like this happening on other Galaxy Note8 devices. Since you let Samsung did the repair on the device, you should listen to them instead as they have more authority when it comes to this situation. They were able to physically check the hardware and conduct tests on your device so they have more intimate knowledge about it than we are. It’s standard operating procedure for them to tell owners what went wrong but in case they forget, be sure to demand for an explanation why the first repair did not fix the phone for good. There may be a factory defect on the motherboard that affects the microphones. Hopefully, Samsung would be able to fix the issue for good after the second repair. If not, just demand for a unit replacement to save you from going back to them all the time.
Problem #2: What to do if your Galaxy Note8 screen is physically broken
I have a galaxy Note8. I dropped my phone and it got a couple of web like cracks in the screen. The phone still functioned just fine. However a few weeks later it started flashing a really bright light, almost blinding. About a day or two later the screen was white and I could not see it. It was almost like a transparent white screen. I could see the icons on my phone through it but not enough to where i could make out anything. Sometimes it works just fine and I can actually use it however it will still be flashing while using it but not as bright as before and I can still see it. Other times the screen is white and I can’t see anything at all. The phone itself functions fine, my touchscreen works, I can slide the button to answer calls, I just cant see whos calling. its either bright white or black most of the time.
Solution: The shock from the drop must have damaged the monitor, one of the major components in the screen assembly. This issue can’t be fixed by doing a software modification or tweak. If you want to permanently resolve the situation, send the phone in to Samsung so they can repair it for you. Under normal warranty, breaking your phone’s screen constitutes misuse, which effectively voids the warranty. Repair of this type will not be free so be sure to prepare some money for the repair fee.
Problem #3: What to do if My Files app on Galaxy Note8 is slow in showing files
Hello. I am having an issue with my Note8 device that has been temporarily fixed, for approximately 30 minutes to a number of hours, by deleting the system cache (a trick I learned from this site). However, regardless of the time elapsed, it always resumes the same problem. I am starting to assume that my only option is a factory reset but I figured that I would reach out to someone who would know more than I do. The problem that consistently occurs is this: the default Samsung app listed as My Files will take ~30 seconds to load either internal or SD card memory before displaying one of two results. The results are normal function with files available or a blank page with the statement “No files found.” This is considerably aggravating and while I am resigned to a factory reset, I do hope for a better solution. Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.
Solution: It’s normal for any file explorer app similar to My Files to take some time to display contents if there’s a considerable amount of data to process. If your phone’s internal storage or SD card are full or near capacity, some apps may encounter performance issues. So, in order for your apps like My Files to work faster, make it a point to delete some files to allow the operating system to work faster. We recommend that you leave at least 1GB free for both the internal storage device and SD card.
Clear My Files app data
If there’s already enough storage available in both internal memory and SD card, then you ought to clear the data of My Files app. Here’s how to do that:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
- Select Show system apps.
- Find and tap your app.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear Data button.
- Restart your Note8 and check for the problem.
Reset app preferences
Apps usually depend on other apps and services in order to work. Sometimes, Android default apps may be disabled for some reason. To ensure that all default apps are enabled, here’s what you need to do:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
- Select Reset app preferences.
- Restart your S9 Plus and check for the problem.
Reset all settings
Sometimes, resetting all Android settings may help in fixing some bugs. If you haven’t tried doing it before, follow the steps below:
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap General Management > Reset settings.
- Tap Reset settings.
- If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
- Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.
Factory reset
Should all of the solutions above won’t work, make sure that you wipe your phone with factory reset. This is an inevitable solution that you should do if all our suggestions above won’t help. To factory reset your Note8:
- Create a backup of your data.
- Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Problem #4: Galaxy Note8 showing moisture detected error, won’t turn back on
I have a Note8. I’ve been having problems with the port for quite a while. The “you have moisture in the port error.” this phone has NEVER been in or near water so I know that was inaccurate. I would wiggle the cord and eventually it would catch the charge. This past Saturday I went through the same thing only it started turning itself off and back on and then a light blue screen saying downloading came on and was on for awhile then cut off and now the phone will not come back on and does not show lights. Tried all reboot methods and nothing works. Please I pray you guys can help me my mother passed away last year and I had her voice recorded on my phone and it’s all I have left of her.
Solution: There are two possible reasons why your phone may keep on showing moisture detected error. Either your Note8 has encountered a software bug, or there’s a hardware malfunction behind it. Try to boot the phone to Recovery Mode and factory reset it (if successful, this will wipe the phone clean and erase your files including sound recordings). Before you perform a factory reset thru Recovery Mode, be sure to back your files up first. If your phone no longer boots to regular mode, then getting your files back is not possible. For steps on how to factory reset your device, refer to the steps we provide above.
Factory reset will only address possible software bug behind the problem. If you are unable to boot the phone to Recovery Mode, then our suspicion — that there’s a hardware malfunction — is correct. Unfortunately, you need professional help in fixing a hardware issue. The most likely reason is a bad charging port. This usually gets broken if you’re not careful when inserting or unplugging the charging cable. We suggest that you bring the phone to Samsung for repair or replacement.
