S9+ Cannot Create Group Text Messages From Messaging App

Problem: Hi, I have just taken delivery of a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and have a problem with sending group text messages. On my old Galaxy S7 I was able to go into the Text Messages app and click on ‘create a message’ and then choose a group then write the message and all was well. However, on my S9 if I click on ‘create a message’ there is no option to select a group of contacts. Can you help please ? The only way I have managed to get round this is to click on ‘Contacts’ then ‘Groups’ then select the Group to which I want to send a message then click on the three dots at the top right of the screen then click on ‘Send Message’ then select the contacts within the app and then type the message. This seems a long-winded method so I wondered if there is anything you can do to help please?

Solution: To send a group text message on this phone from the messaging app try the following steps listed below.

  • From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  • Tap the Messaging icon.
  • Tap the Compose icon.
  • Tap the Groups tab.
  • Tap the group you want to send the message to.
  • Tap All or manually select recipients.
  • Tap COMPOSE.
  • Enter message text in the Group conversation box.
  • When finished, tap the Send icon.

Some owners of this phone though are unable to send a group text from the messaging app which is most likely due to the software version their phone is running on. Try to check if an update is available on your phone. In case the phone is already running on the latest software version then you should consider using a third party text messaging app such as the Android Messages app of Google which you can get from the Google Play Store.

S9+ Not Sending Photos Using Facebook Messenger After Software Update

Problem: My samsung galaxy S9+ recently updated. Since then, I have not been able to send photos through facebook messenger. I click on the gallery icon and it tells me error loading media with an exclamation point. Also, the videos on my phone that I have taken have stopped working properly. They start playing automatically on mute, and when I try to pause it tells me the file cannot be found. My phone also randomly tells me the photo app has stopped working even when I haven’t been using my photos. I have googled every possible answer and can’t find anything. All of my settings are correct. I have tried restarting my phone. Any assistance you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Solution: The first thing you need to do in this case is to make sure that all of the phone apps are updated. You can open the Google Play Store app then from here check if any of your apps have an update available. Next, wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. Once this is done try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then this is most likely caused by old software data that has not been completely removed from the phone. The best way to fix this problem is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S9+ Not Receiving Text Messages From iPhone

Problem: I can send and receive text messages from people that to my knowledge don’t have iPhones, I can send text messages but not receive them from people that do have iPhones. The phone service is up and running on both ends. I have already reset the phone, cleared the apps cache and reset network settings.

Solution: This issue will usually occur if your previous phone was an iPhone and you used the iMessage service. Your iMessage service is most likely still active right now and since you are now using an Android device you won’t be getting any iMessages sent to you. To fix this issue you should follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

If you have your iPhone with you

  • Place your SIM card back to your iPhone.
  • Make sure the phone is connected to a cellular data network.
  • Tap Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.

If you don’t have your iPhone with you

  • Go to this website https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/
  • Enter your phone number
  • Enter the 6 digit confirmation code sent to your phone number to deregister from the service.

S9+ Not Getting Text Message Notification From One Contact

Problem: I recently have been having an issue with my phone not notifying me when I get a text from a specific person. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this but I am not having any luck.

Solution: It’s likely that you have muted the conversation thread of that contact. To un-mute the contact,  go to the contact’s conversation screen, where the contact’s messages are displayed, and press the down arrow next to the contact’s name at the top of the screen.  Turn on notifications and that should fix the issue.
