How to fix Galaxy S8 boot loop issue (S8 stuck in Samsung logo screen)

There’s been an increasing number of issues reported for the #GalaxyS8 these days. In today’s troubleshooting episode, we’ll bring you 3 common issues and their solutions. So, if you’re looking for a way to fix your own S8 issue, this post may help.

Problem #1: Galaxy S8 Plus signal is weak, battery keeps showing zero percent, draining fast

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus which I won in a sweepstakes and only used for connecting to the internet. It never showed a signal strength much above 50% or so, but I used it anyway in this poor condition. Now, after a year of barely working and a factory reset, because it kept rebooting itself and not working right, and now, after the battery level kept jumping to zero and having to clear the partition cache just to get it to work, and another factory reset, due to still poor functioning, the battery is still behaving poorly and the device won’t go beyond the welcome page after connecting with the wifi?

Solution: If battery performance and wifi continues to be problems after doing a factory reset, you’re most probably looking at a hardware issue. Your Galaxy S8 Plus needs both software and hardware to work in order to give you an experience you’re expecting of a good phone. If the the issues you’re having are caused by a software bug or a bad app, they must had been fixed after wiping the phone thru factory reset. That that did not happen is concrete evidence that the problem can’t be fixed on your level. If still possible, bring the device to your local Samsung Service Center so the hardware can be examined. Only then can they tell you if the device can be repaired, or if replacement is necessary.

Problem #2: How to fix Galaxy S8 boot loop issue (S8 stuck in Samsung logo screen)

My Samsung S8 randomly died. I get absolutely no action out of it unless I put it on charge. Once I’ve plugged it in, all it does is load the Samsung screen, then go black, and repeat. Occasionally it’ll show a blue screen with the little android bubble man that says software installation update (or something along those lines) for about 2 seconds and then goes black again and repeats the Samsung screen and blacks out. I’ve tried doing the safe reboots and etc you’ve shown in other archives but no luck, please help.

Solution: Your Galaxy S8 is in a situation what we call boot loop. In most cases, this is the result of a failed update (flashing) gone bad. If you did not tamper with the software at all before this occurred, it can be caused by other factors such as a bug in Android, a coding issue with the current firmware, or by a hardware fault.

To see if the issue is fixable on your end, restart the phone to Recovery Mode and wipe it from there. If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s how it goes:

  1. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If you did try to tamper with the software by flashing it, or if you tried to root the device, we suggest that you try to reverse what you did. For instance, if the bootloop problem occured after rooting, unrooting it may fix the issue as well. If boot loop follows failed flashing procedure, try flashing the stock firmware and you should be good.

If did nothing of these things at all and factory reset won’t fix the phone, contact Samsung for help.

Problem #3: Galaxy S8 screen flickers and dims on its own

My S8 works… kind of…. I’m not a hardware guy I’m a software guy so I don’t know how to explain this so here it goes. When you go to turn it on it comes on but the display flickers but if you turn it off and on a few times it will come on and work fine. But that’s a hard and annoying task on its own. So last one more thing if it’s below…. eh….lets say … around 75% brightness it will start to flicker. I’m hoping its a connection issue that isn’t hard to fix but it might be more so what ever help I can get I appreciate it. Also I build computers so I know my way around some hardware to fix it but I’m not good with phones. So if it’s something not to difficult I can probably fix it. Thanks.

Solution: This issue has occurred in some older Samsung Galaxy devices in the past and unfortunately, there’s no definitive solution for it. Samsung is mum about the issue and based on our own research, this one is most probably due to a system glitch. Some users found a work around for it by simply turning off auto-brightness feature. This helps stabilizes the screen and eases pressure on the battery. Alternatively, you can try to manually lower screen brightness to minimize the bug from occurring.

As we mentioned above, there’s no official fix for the problem so if our suggestions won’t help, you can treat it as a hardware issue. That doesn’t mean you can fix it on your own though. Let Samsung examine the hardware so you can be advised if they can repair it, or if they need to send you a replacement.
