Problem #1: Galaxy S8 won’t turn back on after accidental drop
Hello. Recently, I dropped my Samsung Galaxy S8 with its case on. It immediately shut off and now it won’t turn back on. I was listening to music through a bluetooth earpiece at the time. Also, the drop was not very big, nor do I drop it often, it had the case on, and sustained no screen damage. I tried holding the power button with volume down, and with bixby, for 10 and 30 seconds. It didn’t even flutter. Also tried charging to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
Solution: If the phone was working normally immediately before it was dropped and that’s the only different thing that happened before your S8 fails to power on, you can assume bad hardware is to blame. In most cases, dropping a phone may not result to serious problems but there’s always the chance of encountering hardware malfunction. Obviously, there’s no software fix for a damaged hardware so there’s little to nothing that you can do in this case. If still in warranty, we suggest that you bring your S8 to your local Samsung Service Center so the hardware can be examined.
Problem #2: Galaxy S8 showing Google ads when there is an incoming notifications
Hi! So, ever since this new oreo update, I’ve been experiencing this really annoying feature. When I get message notifications, instead of it coming down from the notification bar, it pops in the middle of the screen, stops everything I’m doing, and it has a google ad on it. So I’m thinking it’s broken, because I can’t reply on the pop up, instead, it slows my phone down and brings up the message app. Can I change it back to the original way I had it prior to the update or do I have to turn off pop up notifications in general to fix this? Thanks in advance, love you guys!
Solution: We don’t we’re getting the exact issue here. As far as we know, a Galaxy S8 won’t show any ad from Google when there’s incoming notifications. Your phone is either infected by an adware or you’re using a non-stock text messaging app that monetizes their product by displaying ads. You can try to use the stock text messaging app or replace the current messaging app you’re using. If the problem remains after doing any of that, do a factory reset and start from scratch. Here’s how to factory reset your S8:
- Create a backup of your personal data.
- Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Now that your device has been wiped clean, make sure not to infect it again with malware or adware by only adding apps from official sources. Avoid apps from unknown developers. If you’re unsure, check reviews from other users to avoid installing bad ones. Keep in mind that viruses or malware are usually spread in Android devices through apps. If your phone gets infected again, that means you’re doing a poor job of filtering apps to install.
Problem #3: Galaxy S8 won’t boot up, stuck on Samsung logo screen
Hi. Today my S8 suddenly switched off and if I try to switch on, the samsung logo and android shows on the screen and then it blanks out. No other lights are on. I tried to reset it by pressing the power button, the volume down button and then with the home button, all the three pressed together. After a wait it reached a page which said do you want to install custom OS, press down arrow to cancel or up arrow to continue. I cancelled it. It does not have any other options such as clear cache etc. Now it is flashing the samsung logo and android intermittently. Please advise. Thanks Puneet
Solution: You can’t find the option to clear the cache partition or master reset in Download Mode. These options can only be accessed via Recovery Mode. here’s how to do that:
- Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
If master reset or factory reset won’t fix your issue, bring it to Samsung so it can be examined by a Samsung technician.
Problem #4: How to fix a Galaxy S8 that keeps restarting on its own
Hi Guys. my galaxy s8 is having a serious problem. im gonna break everything lol. since about a week my phone started to restarted on its own, like 20 times a day it keep rebooting, especially when i turn my music on, make a call or receive a call… i did all the step u propose, ive been yesterday to a samsung center service and they told me that my version of oreo is having issue so they put my phone on the samsung machine and it went well, till this morning it all restart -.- so theyve command me a mothercard (dont know if this is in english but carte mere is the word in french) anyways im just loosing it, its not until wednesday that i can have it. i even redid the factory reset 2hours ago and it restarted again-.- heeeeelllp
Solution: Did you do anything different after the issue was resolved by Samsung initially? Did you install an app or change some settings after the phone was fixed by Samsung? If they were able to fix the problem for a few hours, the issue might be coming from something that you’re doing. Since we don’t know the full history of your device, we can’t tell you what that might be. The rule is undo whatever you did after the phone was resolved to see if that will fix the issue for good.
If you did not do anything different at all, then you should consider their recommendation to have the phone repaired (motherboard replacement). While expensive, this can still save you a few hundred dollars compared to getting a new unit. Motherboard replacement is usually a recommended solution if the problem involves bad hardware that a technician can’t replace or fixed. This means that the issue is not fixable on your level.
