What to do if Samsung Galaxy A20 died and won’t turn back on
There were owners of the Samsung Galaxy A20 who reported to us about a problem involving some using that reportedly died and won’t turn back on. In other words, those units powered down by themselves and when users pressed and held the power key to turn them back on, they would neither respond nor power up.
There are of course a couple of general possibilities here; it’s either the phone has some kind of a serious hardware failure due to physical or liquid damage, or it can be just a pretty minor firmware issue that left the device unresponsive. If it’s just a software-related problem, then there’s always something you can do about it. However, if it’s a hardware issue, then probably the best thing you can do is have a technician check the device for you.
In this post, we will try to troubleshoot your Galaxy A20 to see if we can still make it respond. You only need to do one or a couple of procedures to know that. If the phone was working properly prior to this problem and you’re sure it wasn’t dropped on a hard surface or left submerged in water, then you may be able to fix it. Fixing a Galaxy A20 that died and won’t turn back on
Most of the time, when a phone turns off by itself and that there are no clear signs of hardware or physical damage, the reason is that the firmware may have crashed. In some cases, the screen may just freeze on the page you last used but there are also instances wherein the phone would shut down by itself and would no longer respond. Whatever the case may be, here are the things you can do to try and make your Galaxy A20 turn back on…
First solution: Try doing the Forced Restart procedure
When a phone is not responding, this is the only thing you can do that actually matters. What it does is force your phone to boot up. If you’re familiar with the battery pull procedure we used to do on phones with removable batteries, this is the same. It simulates battery disconnect that will, oftentimes, make the phone respond again. If the device responds to this, its memory will be refreshed and all of its services will be reloaded.
The fact is, if this problem is caused by a minor firmware glitch, then this is the ultimate solution to that. Here’s how you do it:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.
The moment you see the logo or any text on the screen, that’s a sign that the device actually responded to this procedure. It’s also an assurance that the hardware of your phone is not damaged. However, if your phone still won’t turn back on after doing this procedure for the first time, then try a few more times before moving on to the next solution.

Second solution: Connect phone to charger and do the Forced Restart
At the end of the day, what you need to do if your phone died and won’t turn back on is the forced restart. This solution exists because it’s always possible that the battery was drained and that the firmware may have crashed just before the device powered down. If you’ve already tried charging the device and it didn’t respond to it, that’s because when the firmware crashes, the phone won’t respond to anything. But don’t worry, there’s always something you can do about it.
- Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
- Using the original cable, connect the phone to its charger.
- Regardless of whether the phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
- After which and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.
If you were able to make your Galaxy A20 turn back on after doing any of these procedures but the problem occurs every now and then, what you have to do to prevent it from happening again is the master reset. If your device has some kind of a firmware issue, things like this may occur. Prior to the reset, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data, especially the ones that are stored in your phone’s internal storage because they will all be deleted. Also, don’t forget to remove your Google account so that you won’t be locked out. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
- When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
On the other hand, if your Galaxy A20 still won’t turn back on after doing these procedures, then the best thing you can do is have the device checked.
