What to do if Galaxy S10 5G can’t make calls | calls not working

If your Galaxy S10 5G can’t make calls, there’s a number of troubleshooting steps that you must do to fix it.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #1: Check the signal

If your Galaxy S10 5G can’t make calls, one of the first thing that you should check is the signal. Are you getting good signal on your phone? Are you located in an open area? If the device has poor reception, or if the signal is intermittent, voice calling may not work. Before you do a call, make sure that your phone is getting at least 3 signal bars. This should give you decent voice calling reliability. Anything lower than 3 signal bars is considered bad reception and may cause network troubles.

Also, try to check how texting works. If you’re having sending and receiving texts, there might be a network issue, or your phone is not getting good signals.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #2: Confirm number is valid

Are you positive that the number you are trying to call is saved correctly in your Contacts app? If it’s your time to call a particular number, this troubleshooting step is critical. Try to check if the number is formatted correctly. If you are not sure, try to delete that contact and enter it in your Contacts in the right format. If the number is already in good format and you were able to call it before, proceed to the next steps below.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #3: Restart Phone app

If your device still can’t make calls, your next move is to deal with the app you’re using. In this case, what you have to do first is to restart Phone app. Restarting the problem app is another good way to troubleshoot the issue. Most app bugs are temporary and go away after an app has been restarted. Make sure that you don’t skip this simple solution.

There are two ways to restart your Phone app. Here’s how:

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the Instagram app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.

Another way to force close an app is this:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Phone app.
  6. Tap Force Stop.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #4: Clear Phone app cache

Another way to directly deal with the app is by clearing its cache. Delete the cache of your Instagram app with these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Phone app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear cache button.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #5: Restart device

If you haven’t tried it yet, be sure to perform a soft reset. This is one of the basic troubleshooting steps for any app issue. It’s simple and often effective in dealing with minor bugs and fixes. In most instances, wifi troubles are temporary and caused by an app or software bug. Make sure to perform this troubleshooting step in this case. Here’s how: press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on.

If doing the regular restart won’t help, then try this:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t release it.
  2. While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.
  4. The second restart procedure tries to simulate the effects of removing the battery pack. On older devices, disconnecting the battery is often an effective way in fixing unresponsive devices. Hopefully, your wifi troubles will get fixed by this procedure. If nothing changed though, proceed to the next suggestions.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #6: Reset Phone app

Should clearing the app’s cache won’t help, your next move would be to return the app to its defaults by clearing its data. The steps are basically the same for clearing the cache. Instead of tapping on clearing the cache, just tap on Clear Data. Doing so will return the Phone app to its factory settings so you’ll have to sign back in to your account before you can use it again.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Phone app.
  6. Tap Storage.

  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Network settings.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS button to confirm.
  6. Restart your Galaxy S10 5G and check for the problem.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #8: Check for blocks

If your Galaxy S10 5G still can’t make calls at this time and you’re only having an issue with one particular number, that’s can be due call blocking. What we mean by that is that the said contact may be blocking your number. Try to see if you can communicate with that contact using other means such as texting, or chat. Then, tell him or her about the problem so you can figure the cause together. In this case, you should ask if your number has been blocked.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #9: Check call barring

Call barring is a phone setting that allows the Phone app to block incoming or outgoing calls. If you have this setting turned on before, be sure to check if it affects the contact you’re having a problem with. You may have to work with your carrier in order to remove any call barring feature that may be associated with your account.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #10: Reseat SIM card

At other times, texting and calling problems can occur if the SIM card is loose or faulty. Try disconnecting the card from the device temporarily and see what happens. Before you do so, make sure to power off the phone to avoid corrupting data. Once out of the phone, make sure to wipe the card with clean soft cloth to clear any dust in its metal connectors.

If you suspect that there may be a problem with the card, you can also insert your SIM to another compatible phone (from the same carrier) to see if it can text and call.

If there’s obvious sign of damage to the SIM card, contact Samsung or your local retailer for a replacement.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #11: Manually change network mode

  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Network mode and select 4G or LTE or auto-connect.
  5. While you’re at it, make sure that you also check the selected network operator. Then, let your phone search for networks so it temporarily disconnects from your carriers system. Afterwards, make sure that you use Select automatically so your S10 will scan the airwaves for available networks and pick your own automatically on its own.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #12: Call in Safe Mode

Some apps may interfere with Android and other apps. To see if one of your third party apps, the ones you downloaded, is the reason for problem, boot the phone to safe mode. On safe mode, only pre-installed apps will be allowed to run so if the problem won’t return, that’s an indication of a bad app problem. If you noticed that calling issue started messing up after installing a new app, try to uninstall it and see if it fixes it. If you can’t remember any app that you install that may lead to this problem, then go ahead and restart the phone to safe mode. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.
  7. While in Safe mode, you can now uninstall apps that are causing a problem

Safe Mode works by blocking third party apps from running. If there’s no problem on safe mode, that means a bad app is causing it. To identify that app:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If the problem still remains, repeat steps 1-4.

S10 5G can’t make calls fix #13: Clear cache partition

Android depends on a set of temporary files called system cache to load apps quickly. If this cache gets corrupted or outdated, a device may suddenly lag, freeze, or show signs of slow performance. At other times, uncommon glitches may occur as well as overall performance of the system may also be affected. To ensure that your Galaxy S10 5G has good system cache, we suggest that you clear it once every few months. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
