Easy steps to fix Galaxy Tab S5e calls not working | can’t make or get calls

Are you having trouble making or receiving calls on your new Samsung tablet? This post will help you if your Galaxy Tab S5e calls are not working, or if it can’t make or get any calls.

Easy steps to fix Galaxy Tab S5e calls not working | can’t make or get calls

If your Galaxy Tab S5e calls are not working, below are the troubleshooting steps that you must do:

Tab S5e calls not working solution #1: Check if contact is on Auto Reject list

If you are unable to receive a call to one contact only, it’s possible that the number may be placed in your Auto Reject list. This feature is carrier-specific, which means that your account may have a list of numbers that you don’t want to get calls from. Every Samsung phone has a feature to block numbers that a user wishes not to pay attention to. Make sure to check your Tab S5e’s Auto Reject list to see if the contact you’re not getting calls from is included. To check:

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Go to Call Settings by tapping on the three-dot icon at the upper right.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap on Block numbers.
  5. Check if the number you’re having a problem with is in the list.
  6. To remove a number from your block list, just tap on the icon at the right.

If you are not sure whether or not this is true, consult your network operator or carrier and ask them about it. If you are having a problem not getting calls from all numbers though, that’s a totally different issue and may be caused by a glitch on the device or by something else entirely. Continue with the troubleshooting steps below in that case.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #2: Restart device

Some network problems are fixed by doing a simple troubleshooting step: restart. Make sure that you perform a reboot as a follow up to the first one above. Sometimes, minor bugs may develop after a device is left to run for a long time. It’s recommended that you restart your device at least once a week to prevent issues from bugs of this type. As a troubleshooting step in this situation, you want to ensure that you’ve rebooted the device. Try restarting it normally first by pressing the Power button to access the boot menu. Then, select Restart option and see if that works.

Another way to restart the device is by pressing and holding the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on. This simulates the effect of having disconnected the battery from the device. If this works, this may unlock the device.

If doing the regular restart won’t help, then try this:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t release it.
  2. While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

The second restart procedure tries to simulate the effects of removing the battery pack. On older devices, disconnecting the battery is often an effective way in fixing unresponsive devices. If nothing changed though, proceed to the next suggestions.

Rebooting your device regularly at least once every week can be beneficial. If you tend to forget things, we suggest that you configure your phone to reboot on its own. You can schedule it to do this task by doing these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Device Care.
  3. Tap the 3-dot at the top.
  4. Select Auto restart.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #3: Reset network settings

When dealing with any networking issue, one of the basic things to do is to reset the device’s network settings. That’s because some minor bugs in settings may affect texting or messaging, and calling functions. If calls are still not working on your Galaxy Tab S5e at this time, make sure to reset all network settings. This is one of the important troubleshooting steps for any network trouble in a Galaxy device. Below are the steps that you must do:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
  3. Tap Reset settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #4: Clear Phone app cache

If your Galaxy Tab S5e calls are still not working at this point, your next move is to ensure that the system cache is wiped. This forces the system to rebuild the system cache. Sometimes, an update or app installation may corrupt the cause and cause problems. This cache is a set of temporary files used by Android to load apps quickly. If it’s outdated or corrupted, a device might experience performance issues or other sorts of problems. To take care of the system cache in this situation, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.
  9. Check for the problem by making calls.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #5: Check for network error or outages

Not all causes of calling problems have roots within the device. Sometimes, a network may encounter problems too. Try inserting your SIM card to another compatible device to see if voice calling works. Also, try to check if there’s any signal issue that might cause the problem. If the signal is weak or keeps on disappearing, you may be located in an area where the quality of service is not that good. Try moving to an open area to see if that will fix the problem.

If you Galaxy Tab S5e calls are still not working, continue troubleshooting below.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #6: Toggle Flight Mode on and off

Flight Mode or Airplane Mode can also block incoming and outgoing calls as well as other network functions. If calling service has mysteriously stopped working after going on a trip, it’s possible that you have simply forgotten to turn off Flight Mode. simply pull the Notification Bar down and turn off Flight Mode among the options.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #7: Check for blocked contact

If you happen to be having trouble calling one contact only, it’s possible that said contact may have blocked your number. Contact him or her using another way to double check this.

Also, if you’re having a problem with one contact and you’re unable to receive calls from it, you should consider checking if the number is blocked or not.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #8: Check Call Barring

Call barring is a feature in most phones but may or may not be enabled by your carrier. Make sure that the person that’s trying to call you is not included in your call barring list.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #9: Reseat SIM card

Voice calling issues may sometimes be caused by a bad SIM card. This is rare but not impossible. Although there’s a very low damage rate for SIM cards physically, it can still get bad. Also, when a SIM card is loose in the tray, or when its contacts is not properly connected inside, network issues may occur. Try to take the SIM card out, then put it back in to see if it will fix the problem.
Follow these steps to disconnect your SIM card from your device.

  1. Turn off your Galaxy Tab S5e. This is important. Inserting a SIM while the device is on may result to corrupted data.
  2. With your phone’s screen facing you, remove the card tray. You can use the insertion/removal tool (or a paperclip) to unlock the tray by inserting it into the provided slot. This small hole should be visible on the top part of your device.
  3. Remove the SIM card from the tray. You can lift the card up from the bottom. To assist, use the opening on the opposite side of the tray to dislodge (using a fingernail or similar tool).
  4. Reinsert the card tray.
  5. Press in on the tray to lock it into place.
  6. That’s it!

Putting the SIM card back in is simply the reverse of the steps above. Be sure that the phone is still off when you insert the card.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #10: Toggle Network Mode

If you live in an area with less dense population like the country side, the type of network your phone is connecting to may not be reliable. Try to use 3G instead of 4G to see if that will make a difference. You can do so by going under Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network Mode.

Once you’ve changed the network mode to 3G, try making calls to see if there’s any improvement. If calls are back to normal, try to toggle 4G network back.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #11: Check for bad apps

Sometimes, a bad app may cause problems with Android or with other apps. To check if a bad third party is behind the trouble, boot the phone to safe mode and check for the problem. If issue is absent on safe mode but returns on normal mode, you can bet a bad app is to blame.

These are the steps to run your Galaxy Tab S5e to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
  8. Check for the problem by making or receiving a call.

Once on safe mode, try to charge the phone for at least 30 minutes and see what happens.

Safe Mode is not a solution by itself. It’s more of a tool to help you confirm if a bad app is causing a problem on an Android. So, if the Galaxy Tab S5e calls work on safe mode only, you can assume that there’s an installed third party app causing it. If the error started after installing an app, make sure to delete the said app to fix it. If you can’t remember the app or if you have no idea what it might be, you can use elimination method to identify it. This is how it’s done:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Galaxy Tab S5e is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Tab S5e calls not working solution #12: Refresh system cache

Some voice calling problems may be caused by a bad system cache. This cache is used by Android when loading apps. It may get corrupted after an update or app installation. To check if there’s a bad cache problem, you can clear the cache partition where it’s being kept. Here’s how:
