Galaxy Note10+ won’t send MMS fix #1: Check for errors

Fixing MMS problems is often easy but at times, a user needs more stuff to identify where the problem lies or what is the main cause. One of the first things that you want to do is to see if your Galaxy Note10+ shows an error message or code when trying to send MMS. Error codes or messages are usually key to solving problems. If there’s an error, you should take note of it and do a quick Google search about it. If you’re lucky and there’s available solution, fixing your MMS issue may be easy.

Galaxy Note10+ won’t send MMS fix #2: Force quit messaging app

If your MMS still won’t send on your Galaxy Note10+ and there’s no error message or code, the next thing to do is restart the app. Sometimes, bugs that cause of these types can go away after force quitting the app. Learn how to do that below.

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the Instagram app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.

Another way to force close an app is this:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the messaging app.
  6. Tap Force Stop.

Another troubleshooting step that you can do in this case is restart your phone. This is usually effective in fixing minor bugs. If MMS won’t send on your Galaxy Note10+ and you have no idea what’s causing it, refreshing the system by simply restarting your phone will most likely help. What you want to do is called soft reset. This is basically a restart with the aim of clearing the system by simulating the effects of a battery pull. To do that, simply press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for about 10 seconds. Once the phone has restarted, release the buttons. This is usually effective in clearing bugs that developed when a system is left running for some time. We suggest that you restart your Galaxy Note10+ using this method at least once a week to lessen the chances of bugs.

For some Galaxy Note10+, there may be a slightly different way to arrive at the same method. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume)

  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.

  7. Tap Clear data button.
  8. Restart the device and check for the problem.

Clearing of your messaging app’s data won’t delete your text messages but just to be on the safe side, be sure to create a backup for them ahead of time.

If you’re using a third party app for your SMS and MMS needs, we recommend that you try to reinstall it instead of wiping its data. This is often effective in fixing texting issues that involves third party apps. Below are the steps to delete or uninstall an app:

To check if that’s the case, try deleting old conversations, especially threads that contain lots of attachments. Once you’ve deleted a number of old messages, try sending MMS again. If the problem continues, proceed to the next steps below.

Galaxy Note10+ won’t send MMS fix #8: Install updates

Upgrading to the latest Android OS does not automatically mean apps are updated as well. If there were no prompts for you to install app updates after you installed Android 9 Pie, make sure to double check. Open the Play Store app > More settings > My apps & games and update your apps from there.

If you have apps that you downloaded outside the Play Store, make sure that you update them too.

Galaxy Note10+ won’t send MMS fix #9: Clear cache partition

Some MMS issues happen after an update because the system cache becomes corrupted. To ensure that your Galaxy Note10+’s system cache is in top shape, try clearing the cache partition where it’s kept. This will force the device to create a new one afterwards. Don’t worry, clearing the cache won’t erase your personal data and only temporary set of files will be wiped out. Here’s how to clear the cache partition:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby / Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release both keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
  5. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe cache partition.’
  7. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  8. Press the Power button to confirm the action to clear the cache.
  9. Wait for a second as the system wipes the cache.
  10. Press the Power button again to reboot the device. This will return the device to the normal interface.
  11. That’s it!

Galaxy Note10+ won’t send MMS fix #10: Send MMS on Safe Mode

Not all apps are created equal. Some may work smoothly majority of the time while others may not. Poorly coded apps may interfere with Android and with other apps. To check if one of the third party apps prevents sending of MMS, you can boot the phone to Safe Mode. Here’s how:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

While your Note10+ is on Safe Mode, all of the apps you downloaded will be suspended; only preinstalled apps will be allowed to run. So, if your messaging app works normally and MMS can be sent without issues, that’s a clear indicator of a bad third party app problem. To identify which of your apps is the source of trouble, you must use elimination method. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Note10+ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.
