How To Fix FIFA 21 Stuttering and Lags in Xbox Series S

In this post, we will show you how to fix the FIFA 21 stuttering and lags that seems to be bugging some Xbox Series S users. You will also understand the reason why such a problem occurs and learn the things you can do to fix and prevent it.

Lags and stutters in games can be caused by several factors. Most of the time, they’re just due to some minor technical issues with the console and they can be fixed by doing a reboot. There are also times when stutters occur due to unstable internet connection, so you really have to do a speed test to know if you’re still getting the speed you’re paying for. Performance issues due to connection problems are often associated with FPS drop, so it’s annoying and frustrating at the same time.

Sometimes, server issues can also cause problems like this, although they can be associated with other issues like login problems. But if you’re one of the FIFA 21 gamers that are currently bugged by stutter and input lag, then you should do some basic troubleshooting procedures to understand what the problem is and hopefully be able to fix it. With that said, here are the things you should do:

Fix #1: Force stop the game and reopen it

The game has generally been performing pretty well since it was released, except for some isolated hiccups encountered by some users. So if everything was smooth-sailing and this problem occurred out of the blue, it’s probably just a minor issue with the game. Try closing it first and reopen it to see if the lags and stuttering are gone. Here’s how you do that:

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller.
  2. Highlight the FIFA 21 and hit the Menu button.
  3. Highlight Quit and press A to close it.

After doing such a procedure and the game’s performance hasn’t improved, then move on to the next solution.

Fix #2: Restart your Xbox

Minor technical issues occur every now and then. Perhaps this issue can be one of those cases. So if the first solution fails, try restarting your Xbox and see if the problem gets fixed. Here’s how you can easily reboot your console:

  1. Press and hold on the Xbox button on your controller.
  2. Highlight Restart console and press A to confirm.

A reboot will refresh the memory of your console as well as close all apps and games that run in the background. If the stutter is caused by a minor technical issue, then it should work perfectly now that you’ve rebooted your Xbox.

Fix #3: Check the server status of the game

Aside from minor technical issues with the console and the game itself, it’s possible that the problem is caused by server issues. Outages can result in similar problems because online games rely heavily on the uptime of its servers. That’s the next thing you have to do is to check if Xbox and EA are having some server-related issues. Here’s how you do it:

  • Log on to the Xbox Live Status page to know if some Xbox services are down. If so, wait for it and the problem will be fixed by itself.
  • Then log on to DownDetector.com, and search FIFA to see if the game’s servers (EA server) are down or not.

Both Microsoft and EA will fix server issues and if that’s the case, then you just have to wait until the problem is resolved.

Fix #4: Check your connection speed

Even if all the servers are running and that your Xbox doesn’t have any issues with the game, if your Internet connection is very slow, you will also encounter stuttering. Data transfer relies solely on the stability of your connection.

Try doing a speed test to know your download and upload speed. If they don’t come near your plan, then call your Internet Service Provider and have your connection fixed. However, if you’re getting what you’re supposed to, then move on to the next solution.

Fix #5: Delete the game’s cache

Another possibility as to why a game like FIFA 21 starts to stutter or lag is when its cache gets corrupted. It’s a set of files created by your console’s system that helps in making the game run smoothly. But there are times when they get corrupted and issues like lags and stutters will occur when it happens. So follow these steps to delete the game’s cache:

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller.
  2. At the Home tab, highlight My games & apps and press A.
  3. Select See all to view all your games and apps.
  4. Highlight FIFA 21 then press the menu button on the controller.
  5. Select Manage game and add-ons and select Saved data.
  6. Select Delete all to remove the cache of the game.

Your Xbox Series S will create a new set of cache when you open the game again. So try to see if the problem is fixed after doing this, because if not, then you have no other choice but to do the next solution.

Fix #6: Reinstall FIFA 21

Reinstalling the game should always be your last resort because the installation files seldom get corrupted. So you have to do all the previous solutions first before doing this because you might spend an hour or two waiting for the game to be installed.

But the thing is that this procedure will fix any game-related problem. So if all else fails, then you have to do it. Here’s how you uninstall FIFA 21 from your Xbox Series S:

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller.
  2. At the Home tab, highlight My games & apps and press A.
  3. Select See all to view all your games and apps.
  4. Highlight FIFA 21 then press the menu button on the controller.
  5. Select Uninstall and press A.

After you’ve successfully uninstalled the game, download a fresh copy and reinstall it.

That should do it.

We hope that this guide can help fix the FIFA 21 stuttering and lags on your Xbox Series S.
