How to troubleshoot your LG G7 ThinQ that can’t send/receive text messages
When troubleshooting this kind of problem, there very important thing to consider is when you were able to send and receive texts prior to this issue. You will know shortly why…
Reboot your LG G7 ThinQ
If you were able to send and receive text messages before this problem started, it might be just a minor glitch. Reboot your phone if it’s the first time that it happened. After the restart try sending a text message to your own number so that you would know if the text goes through and if you can actually receive it.
If the problem continues after the reboot, then you should try doing the forced restart procedure which refreshes your phone’s memory. Press and hold the volume down button and the power key at the same time for 8 seconds or more. This will reboot your phone and once it becomes active, try to send a text message to your own number to test if the sending and receiving are successful. If still not, then move on to the next procedure.
Make sure your account is in good standing
This is applicable for owners who got their devices through a service provider or carrier. If your account is not in good standing or you have unpaid balance, you may not be able to send and receive text messages. If, however, you got the unlocked device, make sure the SIM card is working properly. You don’t have to physically check the SIM card, just look at the top of the screen where the signal indicator is located. If your phone shows it’s getting signal from the tower, then the SIM card is working. The next thing you should find is if it has enough credits to use the SMS service.
If you’re unsure if this is really the case with your phone, then the best thing to do is to verify it with your service provider by calling the company’s tech support hotline.
Find out if there’s a temporary network issue in your area
Network issues nowadays are a very rare occurrence but they still happen, nonetheless. If you were able to send and receive text messages and then all of the sudden the service no longer works, then there’s a possibility that it’s a network-related problem. It might be fixed in an hour or two so if you feel like not doing anything about it, then wait for two hours before taking actions. The best course of you action to take is to call your provider to inquire about it as well as to report the problem and seek assistance. If it’s a network problem, you will be given an estimated time when the problem gets fixed and you really don’t have to do anything but wait. However, if it’s not a network issue, then you should try the next procedure.
Reset your LG G7 ThinQ
I know your phone is still new but since there’s already a problem, it’s better to know if it’s due to a firmware issue or a serious hardware problem. It’s better to know early than deal with the problem every single day. Remember, the store may immediately opt to replace the phone with a new one if the problem can’t be fixed by their technician. Needless to say, if a reset doesn’t fix the problem, then you should bring the device back to the store. Before the reset, however, make sure you backup your important files and data as they will be deleted…
- Back up all data on the internal memory before performing a master reset.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
- When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
- When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
- Press the Power button to reset the device.
Again, if the problem continues after the reset, then bring it back to the store or to the local shop to be checked by a technician.
