S9 Not Connecting Automatically To Strongest Wi-Fi Network
Problem: Hi guys. My problem is this: my phone used to switch to the strongest wifi signal in my home automatically as I moved through the house, but does not do so anymore. I used a Samsung Galaxy S8 until recently, and this happened as soon as the repairman (I got some screen damage repaired) gave me the phone back with the nearly latest Android 8.0 Oreo installed. I think I had Nougat before. So it looks like it is an operating system issue. I just switched to an Samsung Galaxy S9, also on Oreo and it has the same issue. I have already troubleshot by wiping the cache, but no joy. And didn’t there used to be a Smart Network Switch setting? Gone now. I have two wifi signals in my home. The first one from my router in my lounge, the second one from a powerline extender in my room. The wifi in the second room is not an exact clone, but transmits a different name – as I had problems in the past when the wifi signals had the same name.
Solution: The Smart Network Switch allows a phone to switch from an unstable Wi-Fi connection to a mobile data connection. This feature however is present in Marshmallow and Nougat devices. The latest term for this feature on Oreo devices is Adaptive Wi-Fi. Just like Smart Network Switch, enabling the Adaptive Wi-Fi feature allows your network to automatically switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data automatically to maintain a stable network connection.
To access the Adaptive Wi-Fi setting
- Go into the Settings menu → Connections.
- Tap on Wi-Fi and ensure that it has been enabled.
- Tap on the Advanced button located near the top right of the screen.
- Tap on Adaptive Wi-Fi.
- Toggle the switch to enable Adaptive Wi-Fi.
- Once Adaptive Wi-Fi has been enabled, you can also enable Aggressive switching. Enabling this feature switches to using a mobile network to access the Internet even when your Wi-Fi Internet connection is only slightly unstable.
Since using this feature will only let the phone switch between a connected Wi-Fi network and am mobile data network and not between two Wi-Fi networks then I doubt if using this feature will help in this case.
It looks like the phone will stay connected to its current Wi-Fi connection even if it is already weak unless it gets disconnected then it will connect to the strongest Wi-Fi network available. This might be caused by the way the latest software update works. You can check if this is the case by doing a factory reset on your phone. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any other apps in your phone. If the issue still persists then you might have to wait for a future software update that will resolve this problem.
S9 Takes Too Long To Turn On Mobile Data
Problem: There’s a problem with my internet Connection. It doesn’t get connected most of the time and it takes a very long time to turn the mobile data on even if it gets connected most of the times Signal remains to be EDGE ‘E’ Even at places where the connection is LTE and loses the connection frequently. There’s no problem with the SIM Card since I inserted the sim card to another phone and it works perfectly. there’s no any other problem with my phone and this is the only case. Please do let me know if this is a software problem or what can the root cause for such an issue. Waiting for a favorable response to correct it then and there. Thanking you in advance.
Solution: If the SIM card you are using can get an LTE signal when it is inserted in another phone then the problem is most likely phone related. To troubleshoot this problem the best thing that you can do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
S9 Mobile Data Not Working
Problem: Hello I have an S9. My data would only work on occasion after many reboots. Samsung repaired it under warranty and whatever the issue was…the repair included a new screen. Recently the problem returned Except this time phone service also goes out at random! If I get lucky One or both come back in after rebooting several times. The past few days I can’t get data no matter what. But have cell service back for the time being. If you know any diy fixed that I could try I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks
Solution: If your phone has the correct APN settings and you have an active mobile data subscription but then the phone is still unable to connect to the mobile data network then the best troubleshooting step that you can do is to check if this is caused by a software glitch. You will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the problem still remains then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
