How to reset a frozen Galaxy S9 Plus

More often, owners of phones that got frozen and no longer respond would think the problem is with the hardware but that’s actually a valid thought since damaged hardware components always lead to an unresponsive device. However, if you yourself know that your phone hasn’t suffered from physical and/or liquid damage, then there’s nothing to worry about. With all that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about your Galaxy S9 Plus that’s frozen…

First solution: Forced restart

You should do this if your phone is stuck on a certain screen and seems to be powered on. Well, if you can still see the screen displaying some texts or images, then the phone should still be powered on but frozen.

Cases like this may be due to a firmware crash wherein your phone is left to be unresponsive even if the hardware is still powered on because the firmware crashed or stopped working. It may seem like a very serious problem but its not. This procedure will fix it and make your device work perfectly again.

  • Press both the volume down and power keys at the same time and keep holding them down together for 10 seconds or more.

If this procedure is done correctly, your phone should already be booting up by now but if you failed in your first try, do it again until you get your phone to respond and start again. Or, you may try this:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t let it go.
  2. Press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  3. Keeps both keys pressed down together for 10 seconds or more.

This is basically the same as the first procedure only that we’re making sure you hit and hold the power key after the volume down button because doing it otherwise won’t give you similar results.

Second solution: Charge and Force Restart

If your Galaxy S9 Plus is stuck on a black screen that leaves an impression that it’s powered down and doesn’t respond when you hit the power key, then there’s a chance that the firmware crashed while your phone was running out of battery. A drained battery isn’t really a problem but there are times it would lead to a crash since some of the services and components aren’t powered down properly. In such case, you’re already dealing with a crash and a drained battery that both lead to an unresponsive device. To address such problem, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Plug the original charger of your phone to a working AC outlet.
  2. Using the original cable, connect your Galaxy S9 Plus to its charger.
  3. Regardless whether your phone respond to the charger or not, leave it connected to it for 10 minutes or so.
  4. Now, press and hold the volume down button and don’t let it go.
  5. Press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  6. Keeps both keys pressed down together for 10 seconds or more.

Your phone should already be starting up after doing this procedure provided that the problem is due to what we thought it is. If your device is still not responding after this, however, then it’s time for you to bring it to the shop so that a technician can check it up for you because it could be a problem with the hardware.
