S5 Text Won’t Send
Problem: Texts wont send. Using stock messaging app. Happens daily. If i put in airplane mode and back out it fixes it.
Solution: If you can’t seem to send out a text message and it only sends out if you put your phone in and out of airplane mode then there are two possible reasons why this is happening.
The first reason is that this may be a network related issue. By placing your phone in airplane mode it disconnects from your phone network. When airplane mode is turned off your phone then reconnects to the network. This process is the same as resetting your phone connection to the network. If the connection needs to be reset constantly then I suggest you contact the technical support team of your carrier first and inquire if there are any network related issues in your area.
The second reason why this issue is occuring is that it may be a problem with your phone software. It may be due a corrupted cached data in your stock messaging app in which case you should try to clear the cache and data of the messaging app. It may also be due to a corrupted cached data of your phone in which case I suggest you wipe the cache partition of your phone. This issue may also be caused by a glitch in your phone software in which case I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Not Receiving Text Messages Of A Certain Length
Problem: I can text one of my contacts and they will receive my text almost always. When that person texts me I will receive their texts, unless the message is over a certain length. That person tries to resend the messages, but i will still not receive them. I can only receive messages from this number when the message is short enough.
Solution: Does this issue occur only when texting one of your contacts or does this occur on all of your contacts? If this only occurs in one of your contacts then it may be an issue with their carrier not sending the full text message to you. This holds true especially if both of you are on different carriers.
If however this issue occurs on all of your contacts then it’s time to troubleshoot your phone. The first thing that you should do is to restart your phone. This achieves two things, it refreshes your phone software at the same time it resets your connection to the network. Check and see if the issue still persists.
If you are still having the same problem then try to wipe the cache and data of your messaging app. You should also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone. This clears out any temporary data stored in your phone that may be causing the problem.
Another thing that you can do is to use the Hangouts messaging app and see if the issue occurs in this app. You need to set Hangouts first as your default SMS app.
Finally, if the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S5 Not Receiving Pictures By Text
Problem: I’m not receiving pictures by text, all I’m getting is an envelope saying downloading with blue diagonal bars moving across the envelope, you wait and wait and nothing happens. This happens each time someone sends me a photograph.
Solution: If you want to receive pictures by text then this means that you want to receive an MMS. There are three conditions that needs to be satisfied in order for your phone to receive or send a picture message. First, you should have an active mobile data subscription. You can easily check this by browsing the web using your mobile data connection. If you can access various websites then you have an active mobile data subscription. Alternatively, you can contact your carrier and inquire about your account status. Second, the mobile data switch should be turned on if you want to send or receive an MMS. Last but not the least, your phone APN setting should match the APN setting of your network. You can get your network APN setting from their website. Compare this to your phone setting and if you spot any differences you should make the necessary changes.
Once all three conditions have been met and you still can;t receive a picture message then restart your phone. After the restart proceed with clearing the cache and data of the messaging app. This clears out any temporary data in the app that may be causing this problem. You can also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.
S5 MMS Or Group Message Takes Too Long To Download
Problem: I have a very strange issue and have called AT&T so many times. My issues was escalated to many different depts but they still couldn’t fix the issue. The issue is that if someone sends me a group or mms, it only come up as a msg with “”download”” option and I have to click on it many many times to see it. Even then, it can take hours to download and when it works all mms/group msgs that were queued up for downloading then automatically download themselves. Even group msg as big as 1kb takes forever to download. Besides that, my outgoing text msg would sometime fail to send and keep failing, no matter how many times I try. However, if I restart my phone and try again, it will go through. I have reset my phone and have even got my handset changed by AT&T as well as sim card changed but the issue is still there.
Solution: If you have already replaced your SIM and the phone itself and the issue still occurs then the problem may be with the signal reception. Have you tried to check if this issue occurs on only one area? If it does then it is most likely a problem with coverage. I suggest you try switching between the different network modes and see what mode eliminates the issue. The following network modes are available for your device LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), WCDMA only, GSM only.
S5 Text Message Appears Out Of Order
Problem: When sending a response to a text message — my message appears above the one i received.
Solution: Try to check if the setting for your automatic date and time , the automatic time zone are turned off. If they are off then turn them on.
S5 Text Message Delay In Sending
Problem: Not sure if there is a fix for this, but when I’m texting it will acting like it’s trying to send even though it has obviously already sent as I get replies back, it will continue to “send” the message and when I turn off, turn back on, it will say “so and so messages not sent” when they have, based on replies to them. Just kind of annoying. Thanks.
Solution: One reason why this is happening is because of a corrupt data in your phone. Try clearing the cache and data of your messaging app and see if the issue still persists. If it does then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone. Normally, the problem should disappear by now. If it still occurs then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
