S6 Cannot Send Or Receive Text Messages

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S6. It was a Verizon phone that I activated with Straight Talk. I can receive and make calls, Internet and apps work fine, but text messaging doesn’t work consistently. I cannot send or receive texts from any contacts with Cricket as their service provider. Also, at times, I receive the error message there is no mobile network signal and cannot send or receive texts from anyone. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Solution: The reason why the sending and receiving of text messages is inconsistent is because of signal related problems. Your device right now is a Verizon phone which means that it is initially designed to run on a CDMA network and not on a GSM network. By bringing it to the Straight Talk network you are then making the phone run on a GSM network which is possible but it has limitations. The SIM card that you use on the phone will allow the phone access to the LTE/4G network which is the network mode that you will be using but you won’t be able to utilize the other bands. Once the LTE or 4G signal drops then you won’t be able to receive or send text messages and the tendency is that you will be getting the no mobile network signal.

So to fix this problem you just need to make sure that your phone is getting a good LTE/4G signal.

S6 Sending Of Text Messages Fail

Problem: Sending sms to two of my contacts fails if I have any sms from that contact. It will send the first sms then I have to delete all messages to be able to send another

Solution: What you should do in this case is to try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app that you are using from the application manager. This will delete the temporary data of the app and restore its settings to its default values. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs. If it does then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check if an app you installed is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. Once the phone works in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S6 Text Notification No Details

Problem: My mom has a Samsung S6 active. When I send her a text it shows the text in her notification bar but when she selects it, it takes her to a blank new text window. If she opens her messaging app and selects my name, she doesn’t see the text that I had sent. It has only been an issue when I text… she gets other text messages.

Solution: This might be caused by a software glitch. Try having your mom delete your messaging thread in your phone. If there are any important messages that needs to be saved make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with the deletion process. Once this is done send a text message to her phone. If the same issue occurs then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue still occurs after performing each step then move to the next step if it does.

  • Check if your number is included in the spam messages list. To do this open the Messages app and tap on the More menu > Settings. Tap on Spam filter then tap on manage spam numbers. If your number is included in the list then delete it from here.
  • Clear the cache and data of the messaging app from the application manager.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S6 Long Text Messages Sent As Multiple Texts

Problem: The longer messages I send are now being received in multiple SMS messages instead of one MMS like it used to before the update. Is there any way to change this without removing the update to 7.0? I have looked through all of my text settings and your troubleshooting page – still cannot figure it out.

Solution: What you will want to do in this case is to make sure that your phone is able to send out an MMS. To do this make sure that the phone is using the correct APN settings which you can verify with your carrier. You also need to make sure that your phone has an active mobile data subscription and make sure that your mobile data switch is turned on. Once a certain number of characters is reached ( depending on the network) the message will then be converted to an MMS if you are using the stock messaging app.

S6 Older Texts Are Deleted

Problem: Good Morning, How do you keep texts messages longer than a few days. when I go back to text someone, it only shows about a week back and then you can no longer see older texts.

Solution: The setting to delete old text messages on your phone might be active which is why you are losing the older text messages. What you will want to do in this case is to go to Settings then Applications then messages. From here tap on more settings then disable the delete old messages option.

S6 Stop Text Messages From Appearing In Email

Problem: Hi. You guys have helped me out before with this but this time I can’t get it fixed. My texts keep going to my email. I have unchecked ‘sync texts’ and have removed my email account then re-added it making sure ‘sync texts was not checked. I have hotmail and there is no account setting in my actual email account for SMS, nor do i have it in my phone. Please advise

Solution: Since the issue occurs even if you have already unchecked the sync texts option then this might be caused by a software glitch. You should try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then ty clearing the cache and data of the email app. Take note that you will have to setup your email again when you do this. Should the problem persist then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S6 Not Showing Text Notification Counter

Problem: Updated my phone yesterday. It does not show a number above the text anymore to show a new text received or the number of texts received even though it’s set up Correctly.

Solution: Try restarting your phone first then check if the same issue still occurs. Restarting your phone will refresh the phone software which could fix this issue. If the issue persists and since this occurred right after a software update then you will have to perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
