Troubleshoot Galaxy A30 with Messages keeps stopping error

I have encountered this kind of problem a few times so I know what to do when this happens. Pre-installed applications should work without a hitch on your Galaxy A30 but there are times when minor problems occur.

First solution: Force restart your Galaxy A30

As I mentioned earlier, it could be just an issue with the app or a minor firmware problem. It’s something a forced reboot may be able to fix. So, to rule this possibility out, follow these simple steps:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together until the Galaxy A30 logo shows on the screen.

After doing this and the phone has successfully rebooted, try to open the app and see if the Message has stopped error still shows up. If it still does, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Clear cache of Messages app

All applications have their own caches. It’s a collection of small files that are used to make each app run smoothly. But there are times when they get corrupted and when it happens, issues like this may occur. So, it’s best to delete the old cache so that a new one will be created:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap Apps.
  4. Find and then tap Messages.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Now, touch Clear cache.

After clearing the cache, open Messages and see if the Messages keeps stopping error still pops up and if it does, then try the next solution.

Third solution: Reset Messages app to its default settings

After the second solution and the app still crashes, then it’s time to reset the app itself by deleting its data files. These files contain your settings and other configuration the system uses. Most of the time if the problem is with the app only, this procedure will fix it. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap Apps.
  4. Find and then tap Messages.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Now, touch Clear data and hit OK.

Reboot your phone after doing this procedure and then try to see if the Messages keeps stopping error still shows up when you open the app.

Fourth solution: Delete the System cache

Aside from the caches of individual apps, the system also creates a cache for the entire system and if it gets corrupted or becomes obsolete, app crashes may also occur and it could be the reason why Messages keeps stopping error keeps showing up. To rule this out, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A30 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A30 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Fifth solution: Hard Reset your Galaxy A30

Lastly, if all other procedures failed to fix the Messages keeps stopping error, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone. This will bring the phone back to its default settings but also deletes all your personal files and data. So, make a backup of your important files and then remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is set, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
