How to fix OnePlus 6 No Signal issue

Hello Android fans! Today’s post will talk about fixing No Signal issue on OnePlus 6. This error usually occurs when there’s a network-related activity or issue. There are some cases though that it can also be due to a problem with the device. Learn what you need to do when experiencing this problem below.

How to fix OnePlus 6 No Signal issue

There’s a number of factors that can cause No Signal issue. Find out how to deal with this problem by following our suggestions below.

Take note of the error. Aside from the usual No Signal message, are there other errors on the phone? No signal error is usually indicative of a network problem but in some cases, it can also be due to a software bug in the device or a hardware malfunction. By being aware of other errors, you may be able to further narrow down the network issue you’re experiencing. For instance, No Signal error may also be accompanied by “Emergency calls only” error on the status bar. This can mean that there may be a network outage or cellular services in an area is interrupted or restricted. If you have such a scenario, you can spare yourself from doing the rest of the device troubleshooting below as the problem will most likely go away on its own.

Verify if network is working. Knowing if the cause of the problem is network-related is important. You don’t want to spend time and effort doing more troubleshooting on your phone when the problem is coming from your carrier. If possible, try to move a few kilometers away from your current location and see if your phone can re-establish a connection. If that’s the case, there’s no problem with your OnePlus 6 so there’s no need to troubleshoot it. Instead, you want to talk to your carrier right away to confirm if they have service interruption where you were earlier.

Refresh the system (forced reboot). This is the first troubleshooting step that you want to do. Many temporary bugs are fixed and network issues are fixed by refreshing the system. To check if cellular functionality is affected by a minor bug, try to simulate the effects of a “battery pull.” On older devices with removable battery packs, an issue like this can be fixed easily by removing the battery. This is not possible for a OnePlus 6 though so you can only try simulate the effects of physically disconnecting the battery. Before you perform a forced reboot, be sure to leave the phone charging for at least 30 minutes. Afterwards, follow the steps below on how to force reboot the device:

  1. Press and hold down the Power button on the right side of the phone
  2. Hold the Power button down for 10-12 seconds, or until the phone vibrates and restarts
  3. If the phone turns off let go then press power again for 1-2 seconds to restart the phone
  4. If your OnePlus 6 is still unresponsive after doing the steps above, continue holding down the power button for another 10 more seconds. Hopefully, this will force it to reboot. If not, proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Clear cache partition. By clearing the cache partition, we assume that the cause may be related to the system cache. Sometimes, updates may corrupt the system cache, which, in turn, can lead to bugs or slow performance. If you haven’t tried wiping the cache partition since you got the device, try the steps below. This troubleshooting won’t delete personal data or apps so you don’t have to worry about losing anything important. What gets deleted in the process are temporary files that Android users to load apps faster. This cache will be rebuilt over time.

  1. Turn your phone off by pressing down the power key for five seconds. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. Press and hold the volume key and the power button simultaneously until the device vibrates and opens the Recovery menu.
  3. Choose your preferred language.
  4. Using the volume keys to navigate, go to Wipe > Wipe cache > Yes to start the process
  5. Reboot the device after this is done.

Reseat SIM. In some cases, network problems like No Signal issue are fixed by temporarily disconnecting the SIM card. Doing so forces the system to configure cellular settings. If you haven’t tried this, make sure to do so. Before getting the SIM card out, make sure that your OnePlus 6 is OFF. After a few moments, reinsert the SIM card and see if the issue remains.

Install app and Android updates. Some network issues are caused by incompatible apps while others may be due to modem firmware coding glitches. To minimize problems like these, you want to constantly check for updates to apps and the operating system. By default, your device should automatically scan for these updates and there should be notifications for them if they’re available. If you want to manually check though for app updates, you can just open Google Play Store app and check for app updates there. As regards software update, you can always go under Settings > Software update to check.

Run on safe mode. Sometimes, a poorly coded app may interfere with Android and cause problems. To check, you want to restart the device to safe mode. In this mode, all third party apps will be suspended. If the problem won’t occur on this mode, you can bet a bad app is behind the trouble. Here’s how to boot to safe mode:

  1. Long Press power off button in your phone
  2. You will see the Reboot to safe mode message appear on the screen
  3. Tap OK to enter OnePlus 6 into safe mode
  4. Wait for your phone to restart, after that you can see safe mode symbol at bottom left corner side of the screen.

To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your OnePlus 6 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Reset network settings. This is a staple troubleshooting step for any network-related problem. By doing this, you are basically changing all network settings of your device to their defaults. If a bug is caused by a bad software configuration, this might help. Below are the steps to reset network settings of your OnePlus 6:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Backup and reset.
  3. Tap Reset network settings.
  4. Tap Reset settings.

Wipe the device (thru factory reset). If No Signal problem remains after doing the solutions above, consider doing a factory reset on your phone. If the cause of the problem is software-related within the device itself, factory reset may fix it. Just make sure to create a backup of your personal data ahead of time.

  5. Reboot the device after this is done.

Contact network operator. At this stage, you’ve already tried everything that can be done on the device so it’s time to report the problem to your carrier. There may be an outage or maintenance that you’ve not aware of.
