One of the basic functions of any phone today is to allow sending and receiving of SMS. Being unable to send a text message can therefore become a very frustrating experience, especially if it occurs with a top-tier phone like the Galaxy S9. In this short troubleshooting, we’ll show you what you can do if your S9 is unable to send SMS or text message.
Problem: Galaxy S9 won’t send SMS to one contact, then to all contacts
Can’t send text messages for one specific number so, I goggle for solution where I followed the below instructions:
- Tap Messages
- Press the Menu icon
- Press Settings
- Press More Settings
- Press Text Messages
- Press Message Center
- Change the message center number if necessary
I changed the message center number but now I can’t send text messages to any number on my phone.
Solution: Tampering with the Message Center Number can cause the same exact problem you’re having right now. So, our question for you is this: are you positive that you enter the correct Message Center Number? If your Galaxy S9 can no longer send text messages to any number, it’s possible the MCN is incorrect. Enter the correct one and see what happens.
Alternatively, you can follow these troubleshooting steps to fix your problem:
Step 1: Remove the SIM card
Before you take the SIM card out, be sure to turn off the phone.
Step 2: Reset network settings
After removing the SIM card, be sure to clear all network settings. This will delete wifi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and Bluetooth settings, etc. Here’s how it’s done:
- From the Home screen, gap the Apps icon.
- Find and tap Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Reset network settings
- Tap Reset Settings button.
- Turn off the phone.
Step 3: Re-insert the SIM card
Once you’ve reset all network settings, you can then insert the SIM card again to see what happens. Be sure to turn the phone off before doing this. Your S9 should automatically detect the SIM card and configure MCN on its own. This should fix both the initial issue (unable to send text message to one contact) and the other one (unable to send to all contacts).
Step 4: Contact your network operator
If your S9 is still unable to send to all contacts, get help from your network operator.
Still unable to send to one contact only?
If the original problem returns after doing the suggestions above, there are two things that you can do:
- make sure to delete the contact from your Contacts List and add it in correct format
- contact your network operator.
Make sure to check if the phone number of the contact you’re trying to send SMS to is correct. If you want, try deleting the phone number before attempting to send an SMS again. Make sure that you have the right digits and format.
If that won’t work still, there may be an issue with your network being unable to send your message to that number. Contact your operator for assistance.
