How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus calling issue: other person can’t hear, voice keeps breaking up

Hello Android fans! Today’s troubleshooting article will help those experiencing issues on their #GalaxyS9. In this article, we address four related issues with particular emphasis about a specific calling issue. We hope you’ll find this post helpful.

Problem #1: How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus calling issue: other person can’t hear, voice keeps breaking up

I am constantly having voice issues with my Samsung S9 Plus. I upgraded to this phone just a few months ago from a Note 8 because I was having the same issue. I call, no matter who or where, and the person cannot hear me or my voice is breaking up so badly that I cannot talk on my phone. I have went through all the steps, reset phone, reset network, update profile, update prl. I don’t download for fear it will mess the phone up even more. I am so frustrated that I didn’t switch to Apple now and that is sad because I’ve been a die-hard Samsung user for over 13 years.

Solution: If the same calling problem persists even on another phone, the problem is most probably not device-related. Are both phones provided by your carrier? If the answer to that is yes, then stop wasting your time looking for a solution yourself. The most likely reason lies on the network side. The firmware version running on those devices are probably not coded properly or may be incompatible with your network’s system. This is an issue that users don’t have control over so be sure to work with your carrier for a solution.

Problem #2: What to do if Galaxy S9 is on but screen remains black

Hello guys. I have Galaxy S9. Today my phone battery died while trying the switch to saving battery mode. I came home. I charged the phone but screen is not working or showing anything. I tried to reboot the phone but nothing happened, I did a factory reset using Google “find my phone” with my PC, but unfortunately the screen doesn’t show up anything! I can click at home and power key and hear the screenshot sound, except that the screen is not working, even the Samsung logo or the charging indicator is not showing when phone is off. basically the screen is not showing any sign of life. should I replace it or there is a chance to fix it?

Solution: The phone is clearly not totally dead as it still makes a sound. The most likely scenario is a bad or malfunctioning screen. To see if the screen only fails to work when Android is active, you can try to boot the device to either Recovery Mode or Download Mode. Each of these modes don’t require Android to work normally. In other words, they can run independently even if Android is not working properly. Booting to any of these modes is a good way to determine if there’s an operating system bug that prevents the screen from working. This is not a solution to any screen problem at all but just a way to check for screen functionality.

Before you  attempt to boot the phone to any of these modes, it’s imperative that the device is turned off first. We understand that you are unable to power off the phone normally so if you’re not sure if the device is powered off or not, just wait until it does not show signs of life at all. You can do that by waiting for the battery to become empty. Once the phone is off, follow the steps below.

How to boot a Galaxy S9 to Recovery Mode

  1. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).

How to boot a Galaxy S9 to Downlod Mode

  2. Press and hold the Volume Down key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. You’ll know if you’re on Download Mode when you see a screen that says “Downloading….”

Remember, if the screen works in any of these modes, that’s a clear sign that you have an Android OS issue. Be sure to factory reset the device in Recovery Mode to fix it.

Problem #3: Galaxy S9 gets black screen when visiting a particular website

Hi. I hope you can help and thank you for your time in advance. I have a Samsung galaxy S9 . The only issue I am having is with a particular website called Taste.com.au it is a recipe website and I have been using it for a couple of years with no issues but over the last few days when I search a taste recipe either from google or directly from their website it all goes well until I click on the recipe, the recipe loads and then with in 2-3 seconds the screen gets a shadow over the recipe page. My phone doesn’t crash and I can still scroll up or down with in that recipe everything is fine except for the shadow over the page. It only happens on this page; nowhere else on their site so I can search recipe’s etc but as soon as I go onto a recipe the screen gets a shadow and I can’t see the info properly. It doesn’t happen anywhere else and my partner has a samsung s6 and he doesn’t have that problem with the same site so I know it’s not the site. I hope I have given enough info. Thank you.

Solution: We tried visiting Taste.com.au and clicked on a recipe and you know what, we also got a black screen. It is however not a bug but rather a website-specific feature designed to capture your attention. We also noticed that the site uses a full-page ads that cover the entire screen so this is probably what’s happening on your end as well. Just dismiss the pop ups and you should be good to go.

In the event that it’s an issue with the web browser you’re using, make sure that you wipe its data with the steps below:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Problem #4: Galaxy S9 missing in-app audio controls

Hi. Have got a new S9 but the S9 seems to have no audio controls within videos. This is true of Facebook video, YouTube video, messenger video. I have sound no problems but with my previous S5 there was a mute button or volume slider button in the facebook or YouTube videos. Now there isn’t. I can only mute or control volume in these videos by using my physical volume keys on phone. I used to be able to tap the playing video and when options appeared there was a speaker button to tap to mute or slide volume up or down (or for YouTube the slider for volume would appear). Now there is no button at all on the video controls with the S9. Is it a setting I’ve missed (have looked everywhere in phone settings)? Cheers for any help you can provide.

Solution: Like Android Operating System, Samsung devices also evolve. You’re right, there’s no in-app audio controls with Samsung devices like what you’re missing. This is by design so there’s really nothing much that you can do. We don’t know if Samsung or Google is planning on bringing in-app audio controls later with new Android iterations but right now, this feature is not available.
