How to fix Galaxy A50 won’t charge | troubleshoot Galaxy A50 that stops charging

If your Galaxy A50 won’t charge for no obvious reasons, you must do a number of troubleshooting steps to know where the problem is coming from. These are the steps that you should do:

A50 won’t charge fix #1: Check the charging accessories

The first troubleshooting step that you must do in this case is to check if it’s a USB cable or adapter issue. What many smartphone users don’t realize is the fact that USB cables can go bad even if there’s no obvious external damage to them. This is the reason why a lot of people troubleshooting this problem skip to more advanced steps without doing this one basic  thing.

This troubleshooting step is simple. All you need to do is try another charging cable and adapter. If you can’t find one readily, borrow one from a friend or visit your local Google shop so you can use their charging cable or adapter. When borrowing an accessory, make sure that it’s known to be working and an official one.

A50 won’t charge fix #2: Charge in another outlet

Sometimes, charging issues may all come down to a simple wall outlet problem. If you’ve been charging in the same wall outlet since the problem started, there’s a chance that the issue may not be on your device but with the outlet. Try to use another one when charging to see if that will make a difference.

A50 won’t charge fix #3: Check the charging port

The other thing that you want to consider when dealing with this problem is the charging port. This part of your Galaxy A50 is usually exposed to dust, dirt, pocket lint, water, or liquid. By default, Samsung Galaxy devices won’t charge if there’s moisture or liquid in the charging port. Although there’s an error that should usually pops out when you charge with a wet charging port, there may also be times when there’s none. If your A50 won’t charge after you got it wet, make sure to air dry it first. Simply leave it in room temperature for a few hours to allow water to evaporate naturally.

At times, dirt, lint, or bent pins inside the port can cause this problem as well. If you want to see inside the port more clearly, try to use a magnifying tool to examine it. If there’s visible lint or dirt that may prevent the charging cable from making good contact with the system inside, try to use a can of compressed air to clear it out.

A50 won’t charge fix #4: Use a computer to charge

At times, charging a device with a computer can clear a system bug that prevents regular charging using official accessories from working.  When doing this troubleshooting step, make sure that your computer is powered on and has the necessary drivers. Try to install the latest operating system update for your machine if it won’t detect your Galaxy A50.

A50 won’t charge fix #5: Perform soft reset

Should the problem return after rebooting the app itself, the next thing that you want to do is perform a soft reset. This should clear the system and possibly get rid of the bug as well. To do that, simply press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for about 10 seconds. Once the phone has restarted, release the buttons. This is usually effective in clearing bugs that developed when a system is left running for some time. We suggest that you restart your A50 using this method at least once a week to lessen the chances of bugs.

For some Galaxy A50, there may be a slightly different way to arrive at the same method. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

A50 won’t charge fix #6: Charge on Safe Mode

Poorly-coded or bad apps may sometimes interfere with Android and cause problems. If your Galaxy A50 started to act strange or stopped charging after installing a new app, try to delete it and see what happens. If the problem remains, or if you can’t pinpoint the exact app, then you continue to troubleshoot for the possibility of a bad third party app issue. To do that, you want to restart the device to safe mode.  Here’s how to do that:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the Power off window appears then release.
  2. Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
  3. To confirm, tap Safe mode.
  4. The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete.
  5. Upon reboot, “Safe mode” appears in the lower-left of the home screen.

Remember that third-party applications are disabled in this mode so what you can use are pre-installed apps. If the touchscreen issue won’t appear on safe mode, that means that the problem is due to a bad app. Uninstall the app you recently installed and see if that will fix it. If the problem remains, use the process of elimination to identify the rogue app. Here’s how:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your A50 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

A50 won’t charge fix #7: Reset all settings

In older Galaxy devices, resetting software settings to their factory defaults usually results to a solution. If nothing has changed so far, you should consider clearing all settings. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset settings.
  5. Tap Reset settings button to confirm.

A50 won’t charge fix #8: Wipe cache partition

Android depends on a set of temporary files called system cache to load apps quickly. If this cache gets corrupted or outdated, a device may suddenly lag, freeze, or show signs of slow performance. At other times, uncommon glitches may occur as well as overall performance of the system may also be affected. To ensure that your S10 has good system cache, we suggest that you clear it once every few months. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.
