How to fix Galaxy S10 wireless charging not working

If your Galaxy S10 wireless charging is not working at this time, below are the troubleshooting that you can do.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #1: Enable wireless charging functionality

By default, wireless charging feature should run automatically once you put your phone on an active wireless charger. However, if you recently tweaked some settings, it’s possible that you may have accidentally turned off wireless charging. This may be the reason why your S10 wireless charging has stopped working. To check, simply head over to Settings > Device care > Battery > Battery settings (three-dot icon at the upper right) > Enable fast wireless charging.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #2: Turn on Wireless Powershare (if you’re having an issue with it)

If the issue is about Wireless Powershare, which means that your S10 can’t seem to charge another wireless device like your Galaxy Buds, you should first check that Wireless Powershare is enabled. Unlike wireless charging, Wireless Powershare must be turned on first in order to start working. Make sure that you enable it first before charging another device. To do that, just pull down the notification bar from the top of the screen, look for Wireless Powershare icon and enable it.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #3: Re-position the device on the pod

In some cases, a slight movement on the pod can affect wireless charging or even stop it completely. That’s because the receiver on the back of the phone needs a particular position in order to transfer or receive energy from the charger. If the induction coil is not in a good spot on the charging pod, wireless charging won’t work. Try to move the phone in the middle of the pod and see if that will work.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #4: Confirm wireless charging is working or charger is compatible

There are a number of competing wireless charging standards but your Galaxy S10 is officially recommended to only work with Samsung approved Qi Wireless chargers. If you’re not using the official Samsung wireless charger, it may be too weak to charge your phone or may not be compatible. Make sure that you only use Samsung certified wireless charger.

Keep in mind that non-compatible wireless chargers can potentially cause damage to the device. Do not risk charging your device using third party accessories if you’re not sure about compatibility.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #5: Force reboot the device

If all the basic things above has been taken care of and wireless charging is still not working, the cause of the problem may be within the device itself. The first device troubleshooting that you would like to do in this case is to perform a soft reset. This will refresh the system and hopefully clear the bug that prevents wireless charging from working. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 12 seconds or until the device power cycles. Note: Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. Note: Utilize the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Allow up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.
  3. If Maintenance Boot Mode screen won’t show, then your device does not have it. Simply wait for the device to power down completely.
  4. That’s it! We hope that this short tutorial helps in fixing your device.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #6: Install updates

Some bugs are caused by poor or inefficient coding so only coding changes can fix them. As Android 9 Pie evolves, there can be bugs that can surface from time to time. To deal with them as an end user, you must keep the software updated as possible. Your S10 should automatically download and install updates as they become available. If you’re not sure if there’s available updates, you can do under Settings > Software update.

For international Galaxy S10, there must be a Download and install option under Software update section. Tap that option in order for your device to start looking for updates.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #7: Delete cache partition

Android uses a system cache in order to load apps quickly. In some cases, this cache may get corrupted and cause problems. To ensure that the system cache is in top shape, wipe the cache partition and see what happens.

  1. Turn off the phone.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #8: Charge on Safe Mode

If wireless charging has stopped working after installing an app, that app may be to blame. Delete it and see what happens.

If you can’t figure out the app that may be causing the problem, try to charge the device while it’s running on safe mode. This will remove third party apps from the picture. On Safe mode, all third party apps will be blocked.

To boot your S10 to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  3. When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

If your Galaxy S10 charges wirelessly on safe mode, you have a third party app problem. To identify it, you must use the process of elimination. Here’s how:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S10 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #9: Reset all settings

If nothing happens on safe mode, or if there’s no app issue at all, try to reset all software settings and see what happens. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset settings.
  5. Tap Reset settings to confirm.

S10 wireless charging not working fix #10: Factory reset

If your S10 wireless charging is still not working at this stage, the final troubleshooting that you can try is to wipe the device. Also known as factory reset, this should help you determine if there’s a software issue causing the problem or not. By wiping the device, you also delete all apps and possible bugs that were not addressed by the solutions you’ve done so far.

Before you factory reset your device, be sure to back your personal data up to avoid losing them.

  1. Follow the steps below to factory reset your phone:
If possible, create a backup of your personal data ahead of time. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  2. Also, you want to make sure that you remove your Google account. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  3. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  4. Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Bixby button at the same time.
  5. While still holding the Volume Up and Bixby keys, press and hold the Power button.
  6. The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
  7. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  8. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  9. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  10. Press the Power button to confirm factory reset.
