What to do if your new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 starts to run so slow?

There are times when the poor performance is caused by some applications while there are also instances wherein such problem is due to some issues with the firmware. It’s up to you to determine what the problem is so that you can do something about it.

In this article, I will help you troubleshoot the problem with your Samsung Galaxy Note 9. We will try to consider every possibility and rule them out one by one until we can determine what the problem is and how to deal with it. How to troubleshoot a very slow Galaxy Note 9?

We can have as many as ten troubleshooting procedures if we were to exhaust all of the solutions that can potentially fix this problem but since it’s a new device, we only have to do 2 or 3 procedures. If the problem persists after that, you always have the choice to bring it back to the store and have it replaced. With that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about this problem:

Force Reboot Galaxy Note 9

A brand new and premium phone may have issues but it does not mean it’s serious. The reason why we often recommend to perform the Forced Reboot procedure to almost all problems is because minor issues can easily be fixed by this method. In fact, most of the time, the reason why the phone starts to run very slow is because of some glitches in the system. That could be the reason why your Note 9’s performance is poor.

The forced reboot is also safe and easy to do. It won’t even take a minute to perform it and if the problem is indeed as minor as a system glitch, then in under a minute the problem would be fixed. You don’t need complicated procedures for it.

To do this, press the volume down button and the power key simultaneously and hold them down together for 10 seconds or more. Your Note 9 will reboot like it usually does but once it has restarted, it’s memory is refreshed and all apps and services reloaded. At this point, you would know if the problem is as minor as a glitch or not. After this procedure and your Note 9 is still slow, then move on to the next solution.

Delete the system cache

Another common reason as to why a premium phone as powerful as the Note 9 suddenly runs so slow is a corrupt cache. The system cache is composed of several little files that Android created to make your phone run smoothly after the first boot. We often recommend to our readers to regularly delete the system cache so that it can be replaced with a new one. In this procedure, I will walk you through in doing this procedure.

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
4. An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Don’t worry though as none of your personal files and data will be deleted if you did this. Continue using your Note 9 and be observant enough to know if there’s an improvement in its performance. If there’s none or if you’re not satisfied with the improvement, then you must do the next procedure.

Backup your files and do the master reset

Any performance issue can be fixed by this procedure. It will bring back the phone to its factory settings and configuration. A reset is very effective when dealing with applications and firmware issues and it could be what you need to make your Note 9 run fast and smooth again. Before the reset though, make sure to backup your files and data especially ones that are stored in your phone’s internal storage. You may move them over to your SD card or computer. After the backup, follow the steps below to do the Master Reset:

1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
2. Turn off the device.
3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
