What to do if Messenger keeps crashing on Samsung Galaxy Note 9?
Unlike Facebook, the Messenger doesn’t come pre-installed on your Samsung Galaxy Note 9. In fact, to be able to use the instant messaging feature, you need to download it from the Play Store. How to troubleshoot Note 9 with Messenger that keeps crashing
Based on experience, this problem is pretty easy to fix and most of the time it’s a minor one. In fact, you can immediately get rid of the problem by uninstalling the app but you would no longer be able to use it. The purpose of this troubleshooting guide is to help you get rid of the problem so that you can continue using Messenger. With all that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about it:
Reset Messenger
By reset I mean clear the app’s cache and data. It’s a very effective solution to any app-related issues and since you’re having problems with Messenger, that’s the first application you have to go after. Don’t worry, none of your files and data will be deleted and all your messages will remain untouched. However, you will have to log back into your account after this since all the app’s settings and data files will be deleted.
If the app continues to crash after this, then try the next solution.
Clear Facebook’s cache and data
It’s the same as the first only that we’re going after the main app at this point. While FB is pre-installed on your Note 9 and Messenger isn’t, both work together. So, it’s still possible that the reason why the latter crashes is because of the former. None of your posts in your timeline will be deleted but you need to log into your account after this.
Find out if there’s an update available
After the first two procedures and the app still crashes, then it’s possible that it’s because of compatibility issue between the app and the firmware. Try to see if there’s an update available for both Facebook and Messenger apps.
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Play Store > Menu > My Apps.
- To auto-update apps, tap Menu > Settings > Auto-update apps.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Tap Update [xx] to update all applications with updates available.
- Tap an individual application and then tap Update to update a single application.
If there’s no update or if the problem continues even after an update, then move on to the next procedure.
Uninstall Messenger and reinstall it
This is actually the most effective solution when it comes to apps that keep on crashing. It will remove the app from your phone as well as it’s associations with the firmware and other apps. Aside from that, you can rest assured that the app that’s running on your phone is the latest version after you reinstall it.
This is how you uninstall Messenger from your Galaxy Note 9:
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Apps.
- Tap the desired application in the default list.
- To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
- Tap UNINSTALL > OK.
To reinstall it, open Play Store and search for Messenger. Download and install the app.
