What to do if Galaxy Note10 internet connection is slow | fix slow or intermittent connection

Are you suffering with slow internet connection on your Galaxy Note10, there’s a number of factors that you must check in order to know where the problem is coming from. This post will show you the steps to do that.

Galaxy Note10 slow internet connection fix #1: Restart networking devices

If internet connection on your Galaxy Note10 has lately become slow and unreliable, the first thing that you want to do is to reboot all equipment involved. If you’re on wifi, try to restart the network devices like router and everything in between it and your Note10 phone. For the router, simply unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds and wait for it to initialize again. Then, restart the other devices in the chain.

For your Galaxy Note10, try restarting it normally first by pressing the Power button to access the boot menu. Then, select Restart option and see if that works.

Another way to restart the device is by pressing and holding the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on. This simulates the effect of having disconnected the battery from the device. If this works, this may unlock the device.

If doing the regular restart won’t help, then try this:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t release it.
  2. While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

The second restart procedure tries to simulate the effects of removing the battery pack. On older devices, disconnecting the battery is often an effective way in fixing unresponsive devices. If nothing changed though, proceed to the next suggestions.

Rebooting your device regularly at least once every week can be beneficial. If you tend to forget things, we suggest that you configure your phone to reboot on its own. You can schedule it to do this task by doing these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Device Care.
  3. Tap the 3-dot at the top.
  4. Select Auto restart.

If you’re on mobile data and the connection is slow, consider checking the signal bars first. Ideally, there must be at least 3 bars to guarantee good internet connection so if the signal appears weak, you may be dealing with poor coverage or interference. Try moving to a known well covered area and see if mobile connection speed improves. If there’s 3 or 4 signal bars, meaning that the signal is good, but internet connection is still slow, consider calling your network operator for help.

Galaxy Note10 slow internet connection fix #2: Check internet speed

The next troubleshooting step that you can do in this case is to check the internet speed by doing a speed test. This will help you establish a baseline if there’s indeed an internet speed degradation at this time. Try to do at least three speed tests so you can get an average speed. Depending on your plan, the speed may vary and may or may not show if there’s a speed problem. Refer to your subscription plan to know.

If internet connection is slow when using cellular data or mobile data, contact your network operator for more information.

If you have a problem with your wifi connection, try to focus troubleshooting your router or wifi connection first. Refer to your router manual or documentation on how to troubleshoot a problem. If you are the account holder, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for network troubleshooting.

Galaxy Note10 slow internet connection fix #3: Troubleshoot app

If you appear to be having slow internet connection only when using one app, for example, Youtube app, then you want to focus on troubleshooting it. These are a number of possible troubleshooting steps that you can do:

  • Force quit app
  • Clear app cache
  • Reset app data
  • Update app

Force quit app. Restarting a problem app is necessary in this case. Restarting a problem app can sometimes be an effective fix. If there’s no known solution for the issue at the moment, be sure to force quit the said app. You have two easy ways to restart an app.

Method 1: Close an app using Recent Apps key

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously.
  3. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.

Method 2: Close an app using App Info menu

Another way to force close an app is by going within the app’s settings itself. It’s a longer way compared to the first method above but it’s equally effective. You want to use this method if you plan on doing other troubleshooting for the said app like clearing its cache or data. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the app.
  6. Tap Force Stop.

Clear app cache. The next good thing that you can do is to clear the cache of app. This may help if the cause of the issue is due to a corrupted or outdated app cache. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Go to the Home screen.
  2. Tap Apps icon.
  3. Open Settings app.
  4. Tap Apps.
  5. If you’re looking for a system or default app, tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  6. Select Show system apps.
  7. Find and tap the appropriate app.
  8. Tap Storage.
  9. Tap Clear Cache button.
  10. Check for the problem.

Reset app data. Should clearing of the app’s cache won’t make a difference, try to also reset its settings to defaults. To clear an app’s data and return it to its defaults:

  1. Go to the Home screen.
  2. Tap Apps icon.
  3. Open Settings app.
  4. Tap Apps.
  5. If you’re looking for a system or default app, tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  6. Select Show system apps.
  7. Find and tap the appropriate app.
  8. Tap Storage.
  9. Tap Clear Data button.

Update app. As briefly mentioned above, updating an app may also be a fix. This is true for apps that receive regular maintenance. Apps and Android are never finished products so as developers discover bugs, updates are released to fix them. Aside from security reasons, this is another major reason why you want apps and software to be running their latest version.

To check for Play Store app updates on your Galaxy Note10:

  1. Open Play Store app.
  2. Tap More settings icon at the upper left (three-horizontal lines).
  3. Tap My apps & games.
  4. Tap Update or Update All.

Galaxy Note10 slow internet connection fix #4: Close background apps

Background apps and services may sometimes hog resources and internet bandwidth. Poorly coded applications may also misbehave and drag the system. Make sure to close all apps and see if doing so will help improve the situation. Here’s how:

  1. Tap the Recent Apps key, which is left of the home button on your screen.
  2. Scroll up or down to see what’s running and open.
  3. Select Close All button at the bottom of the screen.

Galaxy Note10 slow internet connection fix #5: Restart Download Manager app

In case there’s a problem with Download Manager app, the next good thing that you can do is to force quit or restart it. Download Manager is a system app that helps in facilitating all downloads in a device. Just like any app, it may encounter a bug that a system can’t resolve, resulting in misappropriation of internet bandwidth. To ensure that it’s working fine, just restart the app. Follow the steps provided in Fix #3 above on how to do this.

Galaxy Note10 slow internet connection fix #6: Clear cache partition

A corrupted system cache may cause problems in an Android device. We recommend that you clear the cache partition at least once every few months to avoid problems related to the system cache. If you have no idea how to do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby / Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release both keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).

  5. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe cache partition.’
  7. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  8. Press the Power button to confirm the action to clear the cache.
  9. Wait for a second as the system wipes the cache.
  10. Press the Power button again to reboot the device. This will return the device to the normal interface.
  11. That’s it!
