How to Set Custom Notification Sound for Each App in Galaxy Note 3

How do you get custom notification sounds for different apps in Samsung Galaxy Note 3? So far, I can only set one notification that applies to everything.” This was the question sent to us via Mailbag.

Changing the Custom Notification Sound in General

In general, you can set your the notification sounds of your apps by going to Apps and then going to Settings. From there, go to the Device tab followed by Sound. After that, you can set your desired notification alert in the “Default Notification Sound” option.

If you wish to change your ringtone for calls, go all over to Sound using the instructions above but tap Ringtones instead. In that portion, you can switch to any ringtone that you prefer.

Setting the Custom Notification Sound of Each App

Having the same notification sound for every app in your device can be confusing, especially if you are only monitoring the updates of certain apps. So, if you want to set a notification sound for each app in order for you to know right away which app gave you an alert, all you have to do is access the app and hit the Menu key. This should reveal options which will let you select your desired notification sound.

For example, if you want to set a specific notification sound for the Gmail app, just go to the app and hit the Menu. Next, go to More followed by Settings. This will reveal an option to select a ringtone wherein you can set your preferred notification sound.

It should be noted though that the process varies for every app. Some apps will offer the option directly from their Settings once you open them. On the other hand, others may not even offer an option to do such.

  1. Okay, that’s sweet. I didn’t know you could do that. I can imagine this getting annoying around a few young teenage girls, though. Probably have a country song assigned to each app! Joking aside, I wonder if it’s possible to do the same thing on the Note 2.

  2. Thanks for answering this. I have actually heard other people’s phones do this but couldn’t figure it out. It will be great having a different tone for certain apps. I usually just turn the sound off because I never knew which app it was for and it got annoying. I wonder if there is a way to only alert us for certain apps.
