How to troubleshoot Galaxy S7 Edge that’s stuck on Verizon screen

Problem: Hi guys. I just need your advice on how I can fix my phone, Galaxy S7 Edge, because for some reason it’s stuck on the screen that says Verizon, my provider. A couple of days ago I got a notification about an update and I downloaded it and then this. It might have something to do with the update but I just can’t be sure let alone know how to fix it. Can you help? Thanks.

Troubleshooting: We’ve seen cases wherein phones get stuck while booting up after a firmware update and while we usually take a long route in troubleshooting firmware-related problems, yours is clearly caused by an update. So, there are only a couple of procedures you can do to fix this:

Step 1: Wipe the cache partition so system caches will be replaced

This is a necessary procedure for this case since the problem started immediately after the Nougat update. It was a major update and some caches may have been corrupted while others became obsolete. There’s only one way to correct that and that’s to deleted all of them so they will be replaced with new ones. Therefore, you need to start your phone up in Recovery mode and then wipe the cache partition:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.
  3. When the phone powers on, the Android System Recovery screen appears approx. 30 seconds later.
  4. Release all of the keys.
  5. Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

It will take a little longer for the phone to reboot after all its caches are wiped off as rebuilding them takes time but wait for about two minutes and if the phone is still stuck on the Verizon screen, then you have to move on to the next step.

Step 2: Perform the Master reset to bring your phone back to factory defaults

You only do this if wiping the cache partition failed or if the phone keeps on lagging or freezing after such procedure. Assuming the previous step corrected the problem, then you can backup your files and data before the reset. You may also have to disable the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) so you won’t be locked out of your phone after the reset. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Cloud and accounts.
  4. Tap Accounts.
  5. Tap Google.
  6. Tap your Google ID email address. If you have multiple accounts setup, you will need to repeat these steps for each account.
  7. Tap Menu.
  8. Tap Remove account.
  9. Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT.

Once everything is set and you’ve successfully backed up your files and disabled the FRP, then follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset”.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

On the other hand, if the previous step didn’t work and your phone is still stuck on Verizon screen, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone without backing up your files and data. If the problem still persists after the reset, you should bring your phone to the shop and let the tech fix the problem for you.

Galaxy S7 Edge freezes and gets stuck on T-Mobile logo

Problem: I restart my S7 Edge and it freezes only showing the T-Mobile logo on the screen and it keeps vibrating. As if there’s something avoiding the phone to open and the battery is getting hot. What should I do?

Solution: There are two factors we should look into that would tell us why your phone have these issues now–it could be caused by software or hardware problem. But as you stated that it got stuck in the logo and it’s getting warmer, it is a clear indication that your phone may be overheating. Software and overheating issues have resemblance in their symptoms, what we want to do now is to rule out all possibilities to know what really the problem is and what triggered it. Here’s what you should do:

Step 1: Charge the device for 15-20 minutes

By charging for several minutes we can verify if defective battery caused the issue or there are other factors that triggered it. If the device is responding while connected to its charger, then obviously it is a software problem and it can be fixed by simple troubleshooting procedures. But if not, or the LED is still not lighting up even after several minutes of charging, perhaps, some of the components were damaged by heat and caused the issue to occur. You can get in touch with the store where you purchased your phone or contact your carrier and ask for assistance. However, if the device is responding and charging normally, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Remove the case of your phone and boot it in safe mode

Sometimes it is because of the case that the heat will develop inside and cause the device to get warmer. By simply removing it we can determine if it can help lower down the temperature or the problem won’t be happening again. So, after you removed the case and connected to its charger, try to boot it up in safe mode to know if there were rogue apps that caused the problem. This will eliminate all third-party apps temporarily and if the problem is fixed, then there is an app you need to find and uninstall to able fix the issue. Here are the steps to boot in Safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. As soon as you can see the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE’ on the screen, release the Power key and immediately hold the Volume Down key.
  3. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the device finishes rebooting.
  4. You may release it when you can see ‘Safe mode’ in the bottom left corner of the screen.

And here’s how you uninstall an app from your S7 Edge…

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Applications.
  4. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap Menu icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

Step 3: Clear the System Cache via Recovery mode

If you haven’t tried wiping the cache directory, then this is the right time that you should do it. Deleting the system caches will remove temporary files stored in your phone so that new files or caches will be created and could run properly with the system. Don’t you worry this method won’t remove your the data and settings. Follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the phone.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished wiping the cache partition. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

However, if all else fails, then you don’t have a choice but to proceed to master reset procedure. In resetting the device all files and data will be erased, so, before you perform the method we recommend that you should create a backup or transfer all of it to your SD card or personal computer, so that you can bring it back to your device if the issue is fix.

  1. Backup your data.
  2. Remove your Google account.
  3. Disengage screen lock.
  4. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  5. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key. NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.
  6. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  7. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds. NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.
  8. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  9. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  10. Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  11. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

I hope this troubleshooting guide helps.
