The first problem is about calls that start to break up and fade after a few minutes, according to our reader. It’s not a common issue but it could happen to anyone. Problem: Calls begin well but break up and fade eventually after approximately 2 minutes. I can hear the other party but they hear broken audio. This applies to calls I originate…handset calls, speaker phone and Bluetooth are all affected. ATT is the carrier.
Troubleshooting: First of all, this problem is common if you’re using Voice over LTE network (VoLTE), so try to disable it first by following these steps:
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap on More and then touch Settings.
- Scroll to Call Settings section and tap Voice over LTE settings.
- Choose Do not use VoLTE, then OK.
- Now reboot your phone.
Once you’ve done that and the problem remained, try booting the phone in safe mode to isolate the issue.
- Turn off your Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Power key.
- When ‘Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge’ appears, immediately release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down button.
- Continue holding the Volume Down button until the phone finishes the restart.
- When you see Safe Mode on the lower left corner of the screen, release the button.
In safe mode, try making a call just to see if the problem occurs even if all third-party apps are temporarily disabled and if so, the only option left for you to do before you need your carrier’s intervention is the master reset.
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
If the problem remained after this procedure, then you really have to send the phone in for repair or replacement as it is clearly a hardware issue.
Problem: Hello, my friend has a Samsung Galaxy S6 only two months old. Everything was working fine till she googled talk to text. Now any calling she can hear but there is no volume when she is talking. Like it’s muted. Others with same phone looked but no one can figure it out. Verizon people did a soft reboot with no luck. Any suggestions?
Troubleshooting: Googling anything won’t affect the quality of the call or even if your friend installed the talk-to-text app, she should still be able to make or receive phone calls without any issues. But since the phone is your friend’s and there’s no way we can troubleshoot it, tell her to perform the master reset (instructions indicated above). This is the easiest way to fix the problem, however, she’ll have to backup all of her data as they’ll all be lost during the process.
Problem: All of a sudden, ALL my incoming calls are saying restricted or unavailable. Now I do not know who is calling. My text messages are not doing this. It will announce the correct caller.
Troubleshooting: It looks like the contacts that aren’t showing the caller ID have duplicates. Try to delete or merge the duplicates with the original one or if you’ve synced your online accounts, try to disable syncs for contacts for other accounts to avoid duplicates.
Problem: Phone was plugged in, connected to wifi, and locked. I was asleep when my phone started calling another phone number. I awoke to my phone trying to leave a voicemail for my boss. It was locked and no way to make a phone call.
Answer: It’s difficult to determine why your phone dialed a phone number on its own if it happened only once (you didn’t indicate that it happened again so I assume it happened only once). I suggest you observe your phone closely to see if it dials the same or other number on its own again. Honestly, I never encountered an issue like this before but ghost touches happen all the time and I’m not sure if this is one of those problems.
Problem: People are calling and it goes to voicemail. The call doesn’t even show in my call log as missed. It has happened a few times now. I’m getting voice mails from people but the phone never rings and then call log doesn’t show anything. I have had trouble duplicating this issue. But it is still a problem because I’m still getting people that tell me only rang once and went to voicemail full signal bars too.
Suggestion: If it doesn’t happen to every call, then the problem should be network-related or has something to do with the coverage or signal transmission. There is, however, a little chance that the phone’s hardware that is responsible in receiving radio signals has an issue but either it’s a network problem or an issue with the phone, you still have to call your phone provider or carrier.
Problem: I have to have either Wi-Fi or mobile data enabled to use hands free Bluetooth. The phone will work without these and the Bluetooth device, Jabra SP700, will still let me speak and hear through it but when I try to use voice commands or it says it cannot find the network connection.
Troubleshooting: This issue has been so common even with previous Galaxy devices and there is one procedure that was already proven effective. Please follow the steps below to fix this problem:
- From any Home screen, tap Apps.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
- Swipe right to the ALL screen.
- Scroll to and tap S Voice.
- Tap Disable or Turn off.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Tap Clear data, then OK.
- Tap Enable or Turn on to enable the service again. This time, it should work normally.
Problem: I can make calls it seems, but I cannot hear the other end and they cannot hear me. The box that show the call is dialing and connected and counting how long the call has been going. But I cannot hear any ringing or anything on the other end and they cannot hear me. Nor does their phone ring when try to call.
Suggestion: First of all, make sure that it’s not just the volume that’s the problem; when in a call, press the Volume Up button to increase the audio and if the problem still persists, try using headphones to find out if it happens with hands free equipment. If you have a Bluetooth headset, try that, too, and the speakerphone.
There is a chance the problem is with the microphone in the mouthpiece and the earpiece and if that’s the case, you will need a technician to repair it for you.
However, if the problem happens even in speakerphone or using a hands free device, then it’s time you calls your provider; either it’s a network problem or an issue with the phone itself.
Problem: I am unable to receive incoming calls and sms’s. I can phone out and connect to the internet. I also get WhatApps. I have checked with my cell provider and my account is active, there are no network issues and no blocking on my phone. This has been on-going for a week. I have checked the phone is set to automatically check for available networks it is set to WCDM/GSM and is not on flight mode. The issue still persists. It was going straight to voicemail but no juts states the subscriber is unavailable.
Answer: If all calls go straight to voicemail, then your provider can do something about it as it concerns its system. During my tenure as a tech support for one of the wireless companies in the U.S., I always received complaints from subscribers having this kind of issue and we had a tool that could actually fix the problem in one click. I believe all carriers and service providers have the tool or the equivalent. So, you better call your provider about it because, frankly, there’s not much we can do about it.
