Troubleshooting Galaxy S10e with “Camera has stopped” error

Provided that your phone doesn’t have any signs of physical or liquid damage and that the firmware hasn’t been modified in any way, then you would be able to fix this problem on your own by performing the procedures below. Try to see which method works for you…

First solution: Perform the Forced Reboot

This must be the first thing you have to do especially if it’s the first time you encountered this problem. It’s possible that the error is triggered by a minor firmware issue or a glitch. A forced restart is a simulated battery removal which refreshes your phone’s memory and reloads all apps and services. If it’s indeed caused by a minor software-related problem, then this procedure should fix it. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10e logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has successfully rebooted, launch the Camera and see if the Camera has stopped error still shows up. If it still does, then it’s time to look at a different angle.

Second solution: Find out if it’s caused by a third-party application

Camera is a core application and some of its services are used by several apps especially social apps where taking pictures or recording videos is offered. Sometimes, these apps may cause the pre-installed applications to crash and so to rule this possibility out and to isolate the problem, you have to restart your phone in safe mode. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Doing this will temporarily disable all third-party apps. So, once the phone enters safe mode, launch the camera and see if the camera has stopped error still shows up. If the problem is fixed or if the error doesn’t show, then it means there’s an app that’s triggering the error. Follow these steps to determine the culprit and fix the problem…

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone starts to reboot by itself.
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

On the other hand, if the camera has stopped error still continues to show up even in this mode, then it’s time to troubleshoot the app itself.

Third solution: Delete the cache of the camera

Each app and service in your phone has a cache. It’s a small file used by the system to make apps run smoothly. If the cache gets corrupted as such is the case sometimes, it may result to app crashes or an error like “Camera has stopped.” But don’t worry as you may still be able to fix it. Here’s how to delete the cache of the camera app:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Camera.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.

After this, launch camera and see if the camera has stopped error still pops up. If it still does, try the next solution.

Fourth solution: Reset Camera

At this point, we need to reset the camera which includes the app, its services and the sensors themselves. When it comes to apps and services, a reset means clearing the data files. Most of the time these files contain user settings and preferences. When deleted, the system will create new ones that contain the default values or settings. If it’s just an issue with the app, then this procedure will fix it. Here’s how:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Camera.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.

After resetting the app and the camera has stopped error still shows, then it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware.

Fifth solution: Delete the system cache

We’ve already tried deleting the cache of the camera to no avail. So, this time, we’ll have to delete the system cache itself so that it will be replaced with a new one. It’s possible that it has also been corrupted. Don’t worry, none of your files and data will be deleted if you did this.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10e logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy S10e will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After deleting the system cache and the camera has stopped error still pops up when you open the app to take pictures or record videos, then move on to the next solution.

Sixth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

This is your last resort. If the camera has stopped error continues to show after doing this, then it’s a possible hardware issue affecting the sensor. That’s the sign that you have to bring the phone to the shop or store so that a Samsung technician will check it up for you. But before that, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data, then remove both your Google and Samsung accounts. Once everything is in order, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
