How to fix Google Maps not working on Galaxy Tab S5e

If Google Maps is not working on your Galaxy Tab S5e, that’s likely caused by an app bug or an unknown software glitch. Follow the suggestions below on how to deal with the problem.

Google Maps not working solution #1: Check for online solutions

Are you getting an error code or message when trying to load Google Maps? If yes, be sure to take note of the exact message and use Google to search for online solutions. If the error is a known one, you may be able to find a workaround or fix.

Google Maps not working solution #2: Refresh Google Maps app

The Android version of Google Maps is relatively stable for a very long time now but it still can encounter bugs from time to time. That’s because there are a lot of possible points of failure in Android all the time. Sometimes, temporary glitch may develop in an app after an update or any coding changes in the operating system. Such bugs may go away when an app is refreshed though. To check if the problem is temporary, follow these steps to restart Google Maps.

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the Instagram app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.

Another way to force close an app is this:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Instagram app.
  6. Tap Force Stop.

Google Maps not working solution #4: Update Google Maps

All popular Google apps, including Maps, receive regular updates to keep them as bug-free as possible. As far as our experience with Google Maps is concerned, the app has generally been stable and working most of the time. As your first troubleshooting step, you want to make sure that Google Maps is as up-to-date as possible. If you’ve been putting app updates via Play Store on hold for some reason, now is the time to allow them. Open Google Play Store again and ensure that Maps and the rest of your apps are updated.

  2. Open Settings app.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Ensure All is selected (upper-left).  If necessary, tap the Dropdown icon (upper-left) then select All.

In order to load apps quickly, Android uses a set of temporary files called system cache. Sometimes, this cache may become corrupted or outdated resulting to performance problems or bugs. To see if you have a bad cache problem, try to delete the system cache with these steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.

  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Clearing the cache partition can be done safely and it won’t result to loss of your personal data. There’s no need to worry about losing your important data at this time.

Google Maps not working solution #10: Check for bad app

If Google Maps is still not working, try to check if it’s being caused by a third party app. You can do that by booting the device to safe mode. This suggestion won’t work though if Google Maps is not part of preinstalled apps. If you added separately after setting up the phone, just skip this suggestion.

Below are the steps to boot your Galaxy Tab S5e to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
  8. Check if Google Maps work. If it does, then that means a third party app is to blame.

If you’ve confirmed that there’s a bad app in the system, the next thing to do is delete the most recent app you installed. If you can’t remember which app was installed recently, or if uninstalling it won’t work, use the process of elimination to identify it. This is how it’s done:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Galaxy Tab S5e is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.
