If it points to the latter, then there’s only so much you can do about it. The best thing you can do is bring it back to the store or shop so that a technician can check it for you. Force restart your phone to fix Camera failed error
If it’s the first time that you encountered this error, then force restart your device first before doing any other troubleshooting procedures. It’s possible that it’s just due to a minor glitch in the system. Glitches happen all the time and may result to some apps and services crashing every now and then.
The most effective solution when it comes to glitches is to do the forced reboot. To do it, press the volume down and power keys together and then hold them for 10 seconds or until the logo shows on the screen. This will restart your phone and refresh its memory. After that, try to open the Camera and see if the camera failed error still shows up. If it still does, then try the next solution.

Run your phone in safe mode
By doing this, you’re temporarily disabling all third-party applications. There are times when they cause core apps and services to crash. For instance, applications like Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms and offer video chat services have the capability to cause a problem like this since they are permitted to use the service that handles the camera. So, follow these steps to restart your phone in safe mode:
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
- When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.
After successfully running your phone into this mode, open the camera app to find out if the camera failed error still shows up. If it doesn’t, then it means that the problem is caused by one of the third-party apps you downloaded. Find out which app it is and uninstall it, however, before you do that, try to restart your phone into normal mode and open the camera. Sometimes, you just have to make an app work in safe mode and it should work in standard mode.
If the camera failed error still pops up when you open the app in standard mode, then look for the app that causes it and uninstall it. However, if the error shows up even in safe mode or if it continues to show up even after uninstalling some suspected apps, then move on to the next procedure.
Clear cache and data of Camera app
Clearing the cache and data of the camera app will reset it back into its factory default settings and configuration. If it’s just an issue with the app, then this is more than enough to fix the problem and make camera work perfectly again. Here’s how it’s done:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull down the notification panel.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Scroll to and tap Apps.
- Look for Camera and tap on it.
- Tap Storage.
- Touch Clear cache.
- Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.
After this, open the app and see if the camera failed error is fixed. If it still shows up, then try the next procedure.

Backup your important files and reset your phone
After doing all those procedures and the camera failed error continues to show up, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone. This will rule out the possibility that the problem is just due to a firmware issue. So, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during process. We also suggest you remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. After doing all those things, follow these steps to master reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If the camera failed error continues to show up even after this procedure, then it means that the problem could already be with the hardware and you have to bring the phone back to the store so that a technician can check it for you.
