What is Exynos 9820?
The main reason why galaxy s10‘s battery and camera will be amazing is the Exynos 9820. So what is it?
Exynos 9820 is the latest Samsung system-on-a-chip (SoC) that will power the new galaxy s10 and Galaxy Note10. If Samsung is going to push through with its planned foldable flagships, this top-tier SoC will most likely power them as well.
Exynos 9820 offers massive improvements over the now old news Exynos 9810 that powers last year’s Galaxy S9. The Exynos 9820 is fabricated on an 8nm process. This means that it significantly uses less power than its predecessor, the Exynos 9810, which was fabricated on a 10nm process. Such reduced power consumption can give the S10 longer battery life during everyday use.
Another great improvement of Exynos 9820 is its capability to support 8K video while recording at 30fps. On top of that, Exynos 9820 is also capable of supporting five camera sensors. The Exynos 9810 only supports four.
Bigger battery
The Galaxy S10’s battery will be bigger than the S9’s 3,000mAh capacity. Rumors keep pointing out that the new flagship will sport a 3,500mAh. If all goes according to plan, it may be the first time that Samsung users may be counting charging sessions in days rather than hours!
More efficient processor equals low power consumption
Exynos 9820 claims that the new Exynos 9820 is 10% less power hungry than its predecessor. This is due to the fact that Exynos 9820 is fabricated on an 8nm process. Its smaller physical frame means that electrons don’t have to travel far when moving between transistors. This can significantly save both time and energy for the power hungry processor giving the battery a much improved battery longevity.
Enhanced Camera
Exynos 9820 is so powerful that it can now support five camera sensors compared to its predecessor, which can only handle up to four. This can be the beginning of an era wherein Samsung phones start sporting triple camera system. A triple-lens camera is not far-fetched given how powerful the new SoC is. According to Max Weinbach of xda-developers.com, the new galaxy s10 will have triple-lens camera module on the back — one ultra-wide angle, one wide angle, and a telephoto lens. The flash will be located on the left side with the heart rate sensor on the right. There are no specific specs yet for the front camera at this time
With Exynos 9820, Samsung introduces a dedicated AI chip called NPU (neutral processing unit). By adding an NPU to the chip, AI functions will be seven times faster than Exynos 9810. The galaxy s10 will most likely include a number of AI capabilities so this least known capability will come in handy.
Following Pixel 3’s excellent feature, the new galaxy s10 will also have a Bright Night mode to better capture low-light photos.
