J5 Takes Too Long to Restart

Problem: Hello! I carefully checked your page, and didn’t find a solution to my problem. I have a Samsung J5 (2016) for 1 year and some issues came over recently. The main thing is that it doesn’t restart normally, only when I wait like 15 minutes. The problem is when it tries to do the latest Android update (which process would include an automatic restart), since it doesn’t restart by itself “immediately”, the update fails. I can use the phone, however chrome and cool reader apps quit unexpectedly very often, but curiously still run in the background (no need to restart the apps). I told this because it may be an extra info to unmask this update/restart issue. If you have any idea how to solve this (before giving it to a technician), I would be very happy. Thanks and have a nice day

Solution: One of the main reasons why it takes too long for your phone to restart is because it is trying to shut off several services that are running. There’s also the possibility that the phone has some corrupt data ( judging from the fact that some apps quit unexpectedly) which makes the restart process last too long. The best way to address this problem is to first backup your phone data then perform both troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

J5 Screen Not Working After Getting Wet

Problem: My Samsung galaxy j5 fell into water and the screen stopped coming on ever since

Solution: Because this phone does not have any waterproofing feature it is more susceptible to water damage. If your phone came into contact with water then what you should do is to make sure that it is dry by following the steps listed below.

  • Clean the exterior part with a dry cloth making sure that no more liquid is present.
  • Place the phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb the moisture inside the phone.

If the issue still persist then the phone might already be water damaged in which case you will need to bring it to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Screen Flickers

Problem: I have a galaxy J5, about a month ago the screen would flicker on dim, and turning up the brightness helped temporarily. More and more it seems it’s building up a tolerance to the brightness as it’s now on the brightest setting and occurring. I downloaded a blue light app and it’s working somewhat but still flickers. Also when I go to wake up my home screen it will go green, yellow, then black but can still sensor touch. It only happens when I leave my phone asleep for long durations such as night time, or when I’m busy for more than 15 minutes. Sometimes if I go to wake my such reen and plug my phone it and the same time it will skip over going to black and allow use of my phone. If I unlock it before it turns black it will run as well but as soon adds it turns black I have to removed my battery and restart my phone. So far I have wiped the cache, factory reset, and tried removing screen overlay in the developer settings

Solution: If you have already performed a factory reset and the issue still persists then this is most likely caused by a faulty display or display controller already. The best thing that you can do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Not Charging Using Wall Charger

Problem: My Samsung J5 Prime will not charge in the AC mode; will charge, very slowing from my computer. I have tried your suggestions but it still doesn’t charge.

Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air making sure that any dirt or debris stuck in port is removed. You should also try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge your phone. In case this doesn’t work then it’s very likely that one of the pins of the charging port is damaged. You will need to have this checked at a service center.

J5 Replacement Screen Quality Not Good

Problem: Ok i got my as Samsung Galaxy J5 screen repaired the other day cause it was badly damaged, when i got it back everything thing seemed good but i went to open my spotify and noticed it wasn’t black anymore but a slight grey, as well as my background looked off as if its lost massive image quality , i took it back and they said “that nothing is wrong with it on our end it passed the screen testing” they showed me and red, black, blue, green, white and yellow colors are working fine it just seems like the shading is way off even on youtube my highest quality looks super pixelated but only when it comes to shading or something close to that, please help if you can

Solution: The replacement screen might not be a Super AMOLED display which is why you are not getting a good color quality. If this does not affect the performance of the phone then you will just have to get used to the color quality however if it does then you will need to have this display replaced ( make sure that the replacement is a Super AMOLED display).

J5 Group Texts Not Working

Problem: We switched our phones over to Consumer Cellular recently(not my choice…), and I am trying to use my Samsung Galaxy J5 . Pretty much everything works with the exception to group texts and any other data related text. The data works for apps and internet though. Can’t figure out what the heck is going on. The techs at Consumer Cellular said this is a common phone when it comes to problems of this kind.

Solution: You will need to make sure that the APN settings of the phone is set to the one Consumer Cellular is using so that you can use your mobile data and send/receive MMS and group text messages.

The APN settings for Consumer Cellular are as follows.

  • APN Name: ConsumerCellular
  • APN: ccdata
  • Proxy:
  • Port:
  • Username:
  • Password:
  • Server:
  • MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
  • MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
  • MMS Port: 80
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 410
  • Authentication Type: None
  • APN Type: default,mms,agps,supl,fota
  • APN Protocol: IPv4
  • APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
  • Bearer: Unspecified
  • MVNO Type: None

J5 Screen Is Black

Problem: hi my screen froze then turned green ……. it has since turned black and does not turn on although i can still feel the vibrations from certain notification and also when receiving a call i can still pick up using the home button but the screen will remain black as if it is broken ……. it has not been smashed or cracked as i had only had the screen repaired in march

Solution: The best thing that you can do in this particular case is to start the phone in recovery mode then perform a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. In case this doesn’t fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty display assembly.
