First solution: Perform the forced restart on your device

It must be the very first thing that you need to do, especially if it’s the first time that you encountered this problem. It could be just a pretty minor firmware issue that can be fixed by this procedure. The forced restart is a simulated battery removal that will help refresh your phone’s memory and reload its services. Here’s how it’s done: 

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has finished rebooting, try to launch the app and see if the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error still shows up. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Run your phone in safe mode

The purpose of this solution is to isolate the problem. This will tell you immediately if the cause of the issue is a third-party app because you should be able to use the app in safe mode without getting the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error. In doing this, you’re actually disabling all downloaded apps. So, fi the problem is fixed while in this mode, it means one of the apps you installed is causing the problem. This is how you restart your phone in safe mode: 

1. Press and hold the Power key until options show. 
2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode. 
3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen. 

Assuming that the error doesn’t pop up while you’re in safe mode, here’s what you should do next: 

1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode. 
2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone starts to show the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error. 
3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
5. Scroll to and then tap Apps. 
6. Find and tap suspected app. 
7. Tap Storage. 
8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall. 
10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone. 

On the other hand, if the error still shows even if all third-party apps are disabled, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Clear the cache and data of Messages app

Doing this will reset Messages back to its default configuration as well as replace its cache and data files. If this is a problem with the app, then this procedure will fix it. Here’s how you do it: 

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
3. Scroll to and then tap Apps. 
4. Find and tap Messages. 
5. Tap Storage. 
6. Touch Clear cache. 
7. Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm. 

After this and the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error still shows when you open the app, then move on to the next solution. 

Fourth solution: Master reset your phone

After doing all the procedures and the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error still shows up, the next thing you have to do is to reset your phone. Messages is embedded in the firmware being a pre-installed app. Since all other solutions didn’t work, it’s a possible firmware issue and as long as the firmware has not been modified, you should be able to fix this.

Before the reset, create a copy of your important files and data. After the backup, remove your google and samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
3. When the Galaxy A50 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A50 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
