Problem #1: New Galaxy S6 keeps freezing even after motherboard was replaced twice

I’ve got a new Galaxy S6 that has been having some serious problem whenever I play video or open album. the handset got hanged and restart or only sound with black screen, sometimes green screen. so I gave it to the service center for repair.

They first install the latest firmware but the problem is not solved. So they changed the motherboard but still the same problem. So another motherboard change twice but the problem is there.

So is it software issue or hardware? I’ve checked everything I can. I have removed the SD card to check if it’s an SD card problem or third party application. I installed latest version or uninstall them whatever I can but the problem is still there. I’ve read reviews of S6 having the same problem as mine.

So what really is the problem and how to solve it? Thanks. — Deepak

Solution: If replacing the phone’s motherboard twice did not fix the problem, that’s probably because the same software that causes the issue keeps getting re-installed. Try to do a factory reset, let the phone run for a couple of days without installing any app, and observe. If there’s no difference during the observation period, the issue is most likely caused by the firmware from your carrier.

However, if the issue fails to occur during the observation period, one of your apps is to blame. Install apps individually and observe how the phone behaves afterwards. Make sure you give the phone enough time so you can observe it after every installation. Do this until you have identified the reason for the problem.

Problem #2: Bluetooth issue after updating Galaxy S6

I can’t point my finger at it but I think the issue started with the update to 5.0.2. Before that when I got in my car and selected Bluetooth as the audio source the Music app would launch and play. Now I have to manually open the Music app. After I do that the car controls work play, pause, skip, and volume all without issue. I have tried everything short of wiping the phone. I have uninstalled every other music app except the stock one and Google music. That’s really only the Amazon music app any way. I then did a dump of the Music app’s cache and stored data. Multiple reboots, I even booted to the service boot menu thing and sis a dump of the phone cache or something. Don’t remember exactly.  Any help would be cool. — Michael

Solution: Hi Michael. Sometimes, compatibility issue comes at play between a car Bluetooth system and a newly updated smartphone. This is true for both Android and iOS devices. In-vehicle Bluetooth technology often gets “outdated” as their lifespans are longer and they tend to not get updates as often as most Android devices do. Errors occur when two devices de-syncs from previously connected device. This means that your car’s Bluetooth system is still working but may suffer from glitches when in contact with more updated devices like your S6. Try to delete the old Bluetooth pairings on your car  and your S6 and try to reconnect again.  If that won’t work, consider calling the manufacturer of the Bluetooth system on your vehicle to see if they can update it.

We don’t think doing a factory reset on your S6 will help in this situation but you can also do that.

Problem #3: Unable to read old Yahoo emails on Galaxy S6 email client

I have Yahoo email in my phone. It’s not the downloaded app but I have added Yahoo IDs in the email section. The issue is with Yahoo emails, it only displays emails received in a week or so. It does not retrieve older emails. It takes a long time (almost like 25 minutes to retrieve from inbox) but it does not retrieve at all from sent or draft folders. This is very annoying. If I want to pull up an email sent a month ago, Galaxy S6 does not retrieve that. Please help. — Jyothi

Solution: Hi Jyothi. Your Yahoo Mail account must have been configured to use IMAP. If you want to download your old emails and store it on your phone, try to reconfigure your account using POP settings. For more information how to do this, please refer to a knowledgebase from Yahoo.

Problem #4: Missing apps icons on Galaxy S6 after booting in safe mode

My phone was lagging and ended up completely freezing on an error that told me the finger print scanner was not working. I couldn’t do a soft reset so I had to resort to a hard one. I did a normal reboot (I realize now I should have done safe mode). After the Verizon screen it showed a notification that said “Starting apps . . . ” This screen was going for a couple minutes until I impatiently did another hard reset into safe mode. I noticed some apps were missing, but thought it was because safe mode disabled them.  Once I did a soft reset into normal mode I realized the apps never came back on the app screen.  They are still on my phone because I see I can open them in the play store and it shows them in my application settings.  I also can no longer create app folders.  Is there anyway to fix this without doing a factory reset? — Angela

Solution: Hi Angela. Make sure that the apps in questions are not disabled under Application Manager. To do that, simply do the following:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Proceed to Applications.
  • Select Manage Applications.
  • Tap the Disabled tab and make sure that the apps in question are not listed.

If the apps show as enabled but you are missing their icons under the Apps screen, try wiping the phone’s cache partition. Here’s how to do it:

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Problem #5: Galaxy S6 Edge keeps getting redirected to Google Play Store

It seems like not too long since I got the phone (Spring 2015 when the Edge first was released to US Cellular), when I click on an app or even my email, 50% of the time something else opens — not what I am choosing. Many times it jumps to the Playstore. I also receive “system warnings” with an Android picture saying you need to download a battery optimizer and your system is going to crash. I always back out of these messages and then am able to get to where I need to be but am afraid I have some virus or system issue. Help!! Thank you! — Kelly

Solution: Hi Kelly. Your phone may be infected with an adware that redirects you to the Google PlayStore or to a digital product that you can install. We’ve covered this issue on multiple posts already so you can also refer to them if you have time.

However, we recommend that you simply do a factory reset and make sure that you only install apps you trust. Malicious software or adware are only transmitted by apps you install so one of them should be to blame. To perform a factory reset, just follow these steps:

  • Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  • When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  • Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  • Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  • Press the Volume Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  • After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Problem #6: Contacts won’t save after updating Galaxy S6 Edge

Good day. I have just updated my Samsung S6 Edge software to the Android 5.1.1 which I am happy about. However, I have not been able to add new contacts to the device because the software wouldn’t save. When I press the save button, the screen remains inactive until I discard the operation.

The second problem is that, when people whom I know are in my contact list call me, their names don’t show and I have no way of knowing who is calling me because only the number shows. It looks like after the software update, all my contacts did not move into the device location. It looks like they are sitting on either my synced Gmail account or Samsung account because I can see all of them. Unfortunately I can’t even move or transfer these contacts into my device storage. This is really frustrating me because I have just bought the phone over two months and this phone did not come cheap.

Please help me on how to sort this matter out. Regards. — Prince

Solution: Hi Prince. Issues after an operating system update are usually resolved by wiping the cache partition and performing a factory reset. Please try to do them first. Steps are provided above.

  1. My Fairy Field Wallpaper use to be the my settings under Wallpapers, but now there is only Samsung wallpapers and nothing else. My phone says the app is on the phone, but it is now where to be found. I even loaded the free version of the same app and it says it is installed buy I can’t find it either.
