LG G7 ThinQ fingerprint won’t wake the screen up

Hello Android fans! Today’s troubleshooting post answers one issue about an LG G7 ThinQ fingerprint functionality. If you have a similar issue with your own LG G7 ThinQ fingerprint, learn what to do by following our solutions below.

Problem: LG G7 ThinQ fingerprint won’t wake the screen up

Hi. My phone will not wake up with my fingerprint anymore. Also, I have to press the power button twice before it will wake up and I can then use my fingerprint or code to login. I have done a restart and a hard restart but they did not help.

Solution: To fix this issue, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Wipe cache partition

Updates or app installation may sometimes corrupt the system cache, which can result to problems. To ensure that your LG G7 ThinQ system cache is working, you want to refresh the cache partition. Here’s how:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  3. Tap Storage > Internal storage.
  4. Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
  5. Tap Free up space.
  6. Tap Temporary files & raw files.
  7. Select the following options:
    • Cached data
    • Clip tray temporary files
    • Raw files from camera
  8. Tap Delete > DELETE.

Check for bad third party app

In case there’s an app that’s interfering with Android and preventing the screen from working properly, you can try to see what happens on Safe Mode. On this mode, no third party app (downloaded apps) will be permitted to run. So, if the phone works normally on safe mode without any problems at all, you can bet a bad app is the culprit.

To restart your LG G7 ThinQ to safe mode:

  1. With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  2. In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  3. When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  4. After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Use the device for at least 24 hours while it’s on safe mode. This should give you enough time to see if there’s any difference in performance.

If there’s no problem on safe mode, you can try to pinpoint the app by doing these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your LG G7 ThinQ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Reset All Settings

If fingerprint is still not working properly at this time, the next good troubleshooting step is to return all software settings to defaults. If the problem is due to a system misconfiguration, the steps below may help.

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings icon > System Settings icon.
  2. Tap Restart & reset Restart & reset settings icon.
  3. Tap Reset settings.
  4. Tap RESET SETTINGS, to confirm.
  5. If applicable, enter the PIN, password, etc.
  6. Tap OK.

Factory reset

A more drastic solution to try in this case is to wipe the phone thru factory reset. Make sure to create a backup of your data ahead of time.

  1. Back up all data on the internal memory before performing a master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  4. When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  5. When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  6. Press the Power button to reset the device
