How to force close an app on Galaxy S10 | fix a frozen or crashing app

By design, Android Operating System is supposed to manage its resources on its own so there’s no need for user intervention in the form of closing apps when there’s a glitch. In many cases though, Android may not be able to execute resource management well, which can then lead to poor app performance or app crashing issues. If you’ve been experiencing app crashing issue on your S10 and the system can’t seem to fix it on its own, you must try to manually force close an app. In this short tutorial, we’ll show you the ways on how to force quit an app.

How to force close an app on Galaxy S10 Method 1: Close an app using Recent Apps key

The easier and faster way to force close an app on Galaxy S10 is by using the Recent Apps key. It’s one of the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. It’s on the left side of the Home button and is indicated by three vertical lines. Once you tap this button, you will be taken to the Recent Apps screen where you can see all the active and running apps.

By default, your S10 should be using the standard navigation buttons. If you change it to Full screen gestures, simply swipe up on the lower left portion of the screen to pull up Recent Apps screen. To change back to standard navigation buttons, just go to Settings > Display > Navigation bar.

Now, here are the steps to force close an app on Galaxy S10 using Recent Apps key:

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously.
  3. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.
