This is what you’re going to do if your Samsung Galaxy A9 can’t send or receive text messages…

  1. Force restart your phone first.
  2. Make sure your phone gets decent signal.
  3. Make sure there’s enough storage space left.
  4. Check the phone number you’re sending a text message.
  5. Call tech support.

If this is the first time you encountered this problem, then make sure to reboot your phone first. Or better yet, perform the forced restart procedure by pressing and holding the volume down button and the power key for 10 seconds or more. After this, try sending a text message to your own number to see if it goes through.

Check the signal indicator above the screen to see if your phone is getting a good signal in the area. There are areas wherein the signal intermittently gets lost and if you’re in such area, this problem may also happen intermittently, which means there are times you can send or receive text messages and times that you can’t or messages are received late. Aside from this, make sure the flight mode isn’t enabled. You will know it it’s turned on because you can see an airplane icon beside the signal indicator.

Assuming that it’s not about the signal, then make sure your phone still has enough storage left. You may have to free up some space by moving some files to your SD card or computer. After that, reboot your phone and try sending a text message to your number. You may also have to check the phone number of the person you’re sending a message to. Text messages aren’t sent if the phone number lacks one digit.

Lastly, you have to call your provider’s tech support if the problem continues after doing all these things. It’s because they can help you better in checking if your account is still in good standing or if you still have enough balance to use the service. You’ll also be advised if there’s an outage in the area or if there’s an issue with the tower.
