Troubleshooting Galaxy Note 9 with Google Play Store Error 505

While itā€™s a pesky little error, you donā€™t need a lot of procedures to fix it. In fact, you may only need to do a couple of procedures. I provided you with 4 methods below and they are as follows:

  1. Forced Restart your Note 9.
  2. Delete Play Store Cache and Data.
  3. Reset Network Settings.
  4. Perform Master Reset.

Now, let me explain briefly why you need to do these things…

First Solution: Forced Restart your Note 9

Before you do any troubleshooting procedures, you need to make sure that a glitch in the system is not causing the issue. So, we recommend you to perform the so-called forced restart method. Unlike on usual restart this one is more effective because it refreshes device memory and reload all applications and services. To do so, follow this step:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and donā€™t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy Note 9 logo shows on the screen.

When itā€™s done, open your Play Store and see if the error 505 will show up. If so, proceed to the next method.

Second Solution: Delete Play Store Cache and Data

There are times when caches and data files get corrupted and when such thing happens, performance issues may occur including app crashes. That could be the reason why the Play Store is showing up the error 505 whenever you download or install apps. To rule this possibility out, you have to delete the cache and data of Play Store so that new ones will be created. Hereā€™s how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  4. Find and tap Google Play Store.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear cache.
  7. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  8. Reboot your phone to refresh its memory.

Once the phone has successfully rebooted, open Play Store and then try downloading any app to test if the error 505 will still show up. If it still does, itā€™s possible that itā€™s due to an unstable internet connection. Try doing the next procedure and see if it helps.

Third Solution: Reset Network Settings

In troubleshooting error 505 it is imperative that you have a stable internet connection. In other words, if thereā€™s an interruption during the downloading process that may be the reason that the error appears. So this time, we recommend you to reset your network settings, to refresh wireless connections in your phone. Follow these steps to reset network settings in you Galaxy Note 9…

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
  3. Tap Reset settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

After this, let your phone reconnect to the network and make sure you have a stable internet connection and then open Play Store. If the error 505 still shows up when you download or install an app, then move on to the next procedure.

Fourth solution: Delete the system cache

As I said earlier, when a cache gets corrupted, performance issues may occur and that goes with the system cache as well. Before doing the master reset, itā€™s best to delete the old system cache so that it will be replaced with a new one and hereā€™s how you do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy Note 9 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy Note 9 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Donā€™t worry, none of your files will be deleted if you did this but your phone may take a little while in rebuilding the cache so you just have to wait for it to boot up successfully. After that, open Play Store and download any app to see if the error 505 would still show up. If it still does, try the next solution.

Fifth solution: Perform a Reset

Doing the master reset will surely fix this problem provided that the firmware in your device hasnā€™t been modified in any way. The thing is we often donā€™t suggest this procedure without exhausting all possible solutions first. But since we donā€™t have much of a choice after all other procedures failed to fix the problem, then you need to reset your phone. But before that, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted. After that, remove both your Google and Samsung accounts so that you wonā€™t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
