How to fix Google Play Store error 403 on Samsung Galaxy S9

Fixing Galaxy S9 that keeps showing Play Store error 403

Here are the things that you should do if you encounter Play Store 403 error on your Samsung Galaxy S9:

  1. Perform Forced Reboot.
  2. Delete Play Store Cache and Data.
  3. Remove and Add your Google Account.
  4. Update Google Play Store.
  5. Perform Factory Reset.

Now, let me explain briefly why you need to do all these procedures.

First Solution: Perform Forced Reboot

Sometimes, due to several apps running simultaneously the system could no longer cater all of it that resulted the other apps to function abnormally without apparent reason. Through forced reboot the system will be refreshed and closes all those apps running in the background.

It is also possible that this error is caused by a firmware glitch or minor system issues. That’s the reason why you need to perform this procedure and here’s how it’s done:

  • Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more and wait until it reboots.

After the forced reboot open your Play Store app and download again any app to see if the error 403 will still appear. If so, continue to the next method.

Second Solution: Delete Play Store Cache and Data

Another factor to consider why the error message appear is the app’s cache and data are outdated or corrupted. So, to rule this out we will try to bring back the Play Store back to its default settings by deleting the cache and data. Here’s how:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Tap the 3 dots icon (at the upper right)
  5. Tap Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  6. Find and tap Google Play Store.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear cache.
  9. Tap OK.
  10. Restart the device and check for the problem.

Open Play store and try to download any app to know if the error 403 still pops up. If it still does, then move on to the next procedure.

Third Solution: Remove and Add your Google Account

At this point, since the error 403 continues to bug you even after doing the first two procedures, it’s possible that it’s account-related as such is the case with some issues we encountered in the past. It is therefore, logical and very helpful to remove your Google account from  your phone, reboot it and then add the same account again. Follow these steps to remove the account:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap cloud and accounts.
  4. Tap accounts.
  5. Select the Google account (if your multiple accounts, pick the one you’re using for Google Play Store).
  6. Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT.
  7. Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT to confirm.

And follow these steps to add your Google account again:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap cloud and accounts.
  4. Tap accounts.
  5. Tap Add account at the bottom.
  6. Select Google.
  7. Provide the screen unlock if prompted
  8. Enter your Google account credentials.

After the account is added, open Play Store right away and then try to download any application. If the error 403 still shows up after this, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Fourth Solution: Perform Factory Reset

Performing a reset on your phone should be the last option that you can do if all procedures failed to get rid the issue. This method will wipe out all files and data saved in the internal storage of your phone. So, before you do this method, we suggest you to backup all your important files so that you can restore easily once the issue is fixed. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
